Hello ladies and gentlemen, welcome to What You Say Anime, I am your host Peter. On today's episode, after like a 7 month hiatus, we have returned with the fan favorite, the MyAnimeList game. Where we take the most elitist, prestigious, and poorly written reviews found on the popular website MyAnimeList and turn it into a game. How it's played, myself, Kat, Pat, and Preston will each present two shows and each of us will have to guess the show and the score of the review it was written for.

guessing the show will get you a point guessing the score within a two point range will award you a point as well and if you get them both you get an extra bonus point the winner after two rounds gets a nice pet on the back you get nothing so uh play along anybody can play this uh if you want to like leave how many points you scored in like our youtube comments spotify comments discord let us know how you did um it's really fun and i know a lot of people like playing along with us so gentlemen any questions before we start

Should be good. Alright, I will start things off with our first show. Here we go. One. Fire. Remember when you were a kid? You were watching a few epic shows and then constantly come up with cool ideas about epic characters and epic fights? Now you've grown up and you look back on your younger self and those ideas you had. You cringe to find yourself something to distract yourself and forget in hope that nothing triggers you to recall those memories again.

Unfortunately, at some point, the author reverted to the state of this kid with cool ideas resulting in whatever this abomination was. It's exactly that epic characters engaging in epic fights where nothing makes sense and the outcome is decided by whatever comes to the author's mind.

I really wanted this core to succeed. The promise of a new anime original content gave me hope that it could fix the flaws with its manga's poorly received final arc. Unfortunately, this season could have escaped the problems of its source material. No amount of nostalgic callbacks or solid animation or even impressive sound could save this.

This feels like one of the most overhyped anime in recent memory. That being said, if you're a fan of this show like I am, I still recommend giving it a watch. But go into it with lowered expectations or you're bound to be disappointed.

The plot is where this core falls apart. Just like in the manga, the story feels bare bones and poorly constructed. Many characters are shoved into the narrative not because they serve a purpose, but because their presence panders to their fans. It's bloated, overcrowded, and detracts from the moments that could have been better fleshed out. There is a severe lack of stakes throughout this core.

Weak characters somehow survive impossible situations because of their fan favorites, but it's completely unrealistic given the circumstances. This leads to plot conveniences and fake-out deaths that kill any tension. By this point, this trope feels tired and predictable.

Core 3 had the potential to elevate one of its series' weakest arcs, but it fell short in almost every way. While the sound design and occasional moments of the animation were enjoyable, the bare-bone plots, bloated cast, and lack of stakes made it a slog to get through. If you are a fan of Redacted, it is worth watching for the nostalgia, but keep your expectations low. The genre is action, and I will say it has come out in the last five years.

Uh, Pat, you are first. Okay. All right. Taking notes on a little notepad here. Smart. Uh, just cause I realized I would forget things halfway through your reviews. So epic fights, manga source, original anime, original finish, uh, multiple seasons. It sounds like, and something of recent memory, which you just confirmed with within the last five years, uh,

This person sounds like they're so frustrated with this show as like a manga. They're a fan of the manga, but they also mentioned the flaws of the manga. I don't know. I was leaning like Attack on Titan or something, but I don't know if it's epic fights and like a cast that dies or that feels like it should die or die in these impossible scenarios. I don't know if that's quite the...

you know, the setting or the feel of Attack on Titan. You're on the right track, I'll say that. Okay. Um, yeah.

What are like impossible scenarios, though? You know, like I'm trying to think of like, is there been a death game anime recently? Has there been any Omodachi game? I'd be shocked if any death games had three cores. That's the big thing is that the multiple seasons makes it harder, though. And death fake outs, they mentioned as well.

Oh, wait. I have a guess here now because I've finally worked something out. Okay. I probably should give it to you, right? That's how this game works. It would help if you want to score points if you tell me which show you're picking. I'm just going to keep it in my head and then I'll tell you guys the score after. I'll tell you later. Just trust me, bro. Just trust. I'll have it written down. Yeah, duh. Scribbles in the right answer after. No, I'm going to go with The Promised Neverland. I think...

score wise it will be the numbers break one two i'm gonna go five six five six okay preston so did promise so i think that's a good guess but also does promise neverland have three cores yeah season one was a one core i thought and season two was one core

Unless you count that slideshow as a third core in the last episode. I was more thinking core and a sense of arc in my head. But yeah, that's a fair point too. I don't know what other shows though either. I'm not a fan of that.

I have no clue either because like anime original core like the only thing I could would think of for that is like super long running but I will just say just because they wrote this on the review it doesn't mean they're correct I know that's the worst part just because they say it's an anime original core does not mean that is true because I'm almost certain they are incorrect I really wish

that there was a second genre and not just action that probably would have helped i'll probably just run with demon slayer okay because you hated the second season for reasons similar to what was said so i'm gonna go with that and three four three four all right cat you're up

When you were saying, when you were talking about it and you said it had three cores, the first thing I thought about was, um, first thing I thought about, because it's at least three cores, right? Yeah, it could be three. It could be more. I don't like the way you said that. Honestly, this review is specifically for the third core. Oh, okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Um, so here's what I'll say. I think that the show, uh,

is fire force okay that's a good one i was thinking that one earlier yeah and i also think that it is a five six okay i just gotta say you got all three guesses i think we're good like especially when you get put on the spot

um sometimes when like what's running through your mind is like oh yeah that's a good guess and then what you guys said like maybe the promise never laid wasn't the perfect guess but like at least your mind was going in the right spot you guys were all dancing around what it was it was like a battle action shonen

uh it was bleach the thousand year blood war core i was thinking a remake as well but i was like kenshin well it's not even a remake it's just i was it's a continuation that's what i mean like the nostalgia time yeah then but like the whole like oh it's finally nice to see it come back or whatever i was like oh so it's either well i also thought of trigun at one point but i'm like i don't think that that would be

Not that you said Battle Shonen, but it wouldn't really fit that or does it? I don't know. Battle-sided, I guess. Yeah, yeah. I don't follow it enough to know. So, yeah. No, that's a good one, though. Okay, that's very interesting. Do they really survive? I guess it's like Naruto where people survive crazy things, too. Haven't watched it? Could tell you. Yeah, that's a good point. Kat and Pat, you were both getting a point. It was a 6 out of 10.

Damn it. I thought about that earlier, but then I was like, no, this is mean. This has to be lower. And I wish I looked at Kat's background sooner because when he started talking, I saw bleach in the top three. I forgot that I had the bleach poster back there. Use your resources. Okay, so Kat and Pat are tied in the lead. Pat, it's your turn. Alrighty. I'm not going to be able to look at you guys for a second here. All right. Review number one.

Genre of romance. Have you gotten sick of romance anime consisting of nothing but innocent teenagers blushing like tomatoes at the mere thought of holding hands?

Are you sick of seeing relationships implying that there may or may not be a confession in the last minute of the final episode and nothing beyond that? Well, then this show might be for you because this anime has more romantic progress in its first five minutes than most romance anime do in their entire runtime. And it manages to break one, two, maybe even three taboos in the process as well.

This show, at heart, represents the ugliness of human emotions and carnal-based desires. I did not expect that. The thesaurus was brought out. That's really hard to say. It was brought out for this review, I have to say. All right, back to the review. Sorry. It looks into the darker side of romance and tackles matters which romance anime basically never do.

This is not a story about how to woo your would-be waifu of choice, but rather it deals with the issues such as how to emotionally cope with having an impossible, unrequited love, reflecting on yourself as a human being and opening your eyes to your own flaws, and considering what it must be like for the target of your unrequited affection if you force your own feelings onto them. It showcases how love truly is blind.

and that you cannot end up falling for the wrong person against your better judgment, and you just cannot help but desire them anyway. That was not a good sentence, but whatever. It is a very depressive and heart-wrenching story throughout, but also psychological and packed to the brim with moral lessons to be learned, and it all culminates in one of the most unique, artistic, and legitimately fascinating romance anime I have ever seen. The first thing I really like about this show is that it does not beat around the bush.

Whilst most anime characters seem scared to even hold hands with their respective crush, in this anime, we have the leads willingly tongue-wrestling with each other within the first three minutes of the first episode. This then proves to be nothing more than a prelude of what is to come, as the anime has a lot of actual sexual interaction between numerous different characters over the course of the story.

The main question you have to ask yourself whilst watching this anime is what is the right thing to do in the character's respective circumstances? More often than not, the logical answer and the emotional answer stand in direct contradiction to one another. Their heads tell them they should let go of their hopeless feelings of affection, but their hearts say that they have to keep pushing forward no matter the cost.

And really, you cannot say that one option is any more or less correct than the other. Is it acceptable to sacrifice someone else's happiness in pursuit of your own? And is it okay to keep feigning ignorance of reality just because the current life you are living in or the lie that you are living in feels good? There is not really a right answer here. As regardless of what you do, someone is guaranteed to end up miserable and unhappy in the end, no matter what.

And this show showcases this dilemma to great effect. Ultimately, what you are left with is one of the most memorable romance dramas in a very long time. And although it is certainly not an anime for everyone, given its controversial themes, I think it is also one of those shows which if you manage to see it for what it truly is...

then there really are not many series quite like it. Overall, this show is probably the best romance anime I have seen in the last few years and one I will eagerly recommend people for a long time to come as well. Alrighty. I like that review.

I removed some of the fluff that was unnecessary, but no, it's fun. I just, yeah, the, the vocab that they brought out was, was quite good. I totally spaced out there and I didn't hear the vocab. Well, it's just some crazy words and good language too. Like, like the Wilst was used properly and it was fun. It was, it wasn't the worst review I've ever read. That's for sure. That'll be one of the later ones, but I believe it's Preston next, right? Yeah.

I messed up the order. Okay, Preston. And I'm struggling here because it can be two shows in my head. It's either, and I don't know if you would go with one of them because it's the Watch Club show or not. So I'm thinking either Scum's Wish or Domestic Girlfriend. And I just have to pick in between those two.

I don't think you'd play that move of picking the Watch Club show. I'll go with Domestic Girlfriend, and I really wish I could guess 8 or 9 instead of this, but 9 or 10. Alrighty. There you go. Kat, what about you? I also believe that it is either Domestic Girlfriend or Scum's Wish, but unlike Preston, I do believe that you would play that card, but then again...

I don't think you've watched Scum's Wish yet. He hasn't. It's only been us two. All the reason why I say that it would probably be Scum's Wish. Just because I don't know if this is me putting something that I would do on you or something that I really think that you would do on you, but...

I think that you would do Scum's Wish, and I want to say that it's 7.8. All righty. And Pete, what have you got? This was fun riding this train because when it started off, when you were talking about it doing different things in other romances, I was thinking...

like the nice side i was like oh this is tony kawa he's talking about like when they get married within like the first five minutes and then as you kept going on it's like oh no it's not the heartwarming stuff he's talking about having sex i'm like oh okay it's domestic girlfriend for sure um i don't know if they have sex and scums or they do something in scum's wish in the first five minutes probably do but i i don't know so i'm gonna go with domestic girlfriend just because it seems like it's a

He's like something Pat would search up. And then they also said it was the best romance they've seen in the last couple of years, but not the best anime they've seen. So I'm gonna go with seven, eight for the score. Alrighty. Preston, sorry. One more time. What show did you guess? It was domestic girlfriend. Nine, 10. Thank you. Alrighty. The correct answer. You guys were on the right track. It was scum's wish after all. Are you serious? Well played. Well, well,

I trusted my gut. Well played. So the reason I did that, knowing you guys would also, I knew that you would know that I would never do that. So that's why I did it. For one. And two, I did it especially knowing that Scum's Wish and Domestic Girlfriend are often recommended hand in hand. And there's a lot of connections between how they start, the taboo, blah, blah, blah. I love that your mind went to

uh, Tony Kawa though, that's another great way. Like, Oh yeah, it is different from other romance. I hope that the, uh, what'd they say? Uh, tongue, tongue wrestling, like in the first five minutes and then sex as well. Like figured that that would take Tony Kawa off the board. Yes. But, uh, and the score that this person gave, uh,

was a 9 out of 10. So I believe only... Thank God. Preston does get a point for that. Kat, you did say Scum's Wish, correct? I did. Alright, so Kat gets a point as well. And I'm sorry, Pete, you get nada. All good. That was good. I'm proud of that review. I worked hard. I worked hard. Alright, Preston, what's your review? You worked hard. Let me find it real quick.

This show is a comedy. This is like a power fantasy, but in a romance anime. Main girl is beautiful, athletic, smart, perfect, etc. But she is shy. Conveniently, she has a crush on our very average main character. Isn't this a bit too self-serving? They shoved the perfection trait on a girl and made her dependent on the MC and conveniently also in love with him.

Why do people enjoy this? Do they try to insert themselves instead of the MC fantasizing about having a perfect girl crush on them? There isn't really a good story to be found here. Hell, there aren't good interactions to be found here because main girl being shy is her top defining trait. I hate shy characters with a passion.

They are always predictably boring. If you ask them if they want to play video games, they'll act shy. If you ask them if they want to eat lunch together, they will be shy. If their name gets called, you guessed it, they will act shy. A shy character does only one thing without fail. Try to end any interaction because they are shy.

Before fantasizing about perfect girls being dependent on you and in love with you, fantasize about touching some grass, please. This is boring. And that is the review. Fantasize about touching some grass. Did they remove? Did you remove anything? Or is that literally word for word what they wrote pretty much?

Um, I removed sentences, but other than changing character names and the show name, I did not touch any of the wording. Gotcha. Alrighty. Hmm. Oh, man. And it is Kat's turn. I know it's my turn, and I'm trying to think. I'll probably go with a score first. It's probably a 3-4. Okay. But the show is...

I can see the face of it. It's the big dude that puts Saran Wrap on his friend's face to practice kissing. I can't remember the name of that show. Is that Ari Monacatri? Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's a comedy, yeah. Is that your choice? I think so. I don't... I'm very...

This is... I'm out of my depth here, dude. Like, I don't know the show. So this is what I'm going with. This is the first thing I thought up. Okay. My Love Story 3-4. Okay. Yeah. Pete. Okay, so you mentioned a couple things. The girl's shy, which doesn't narrow it down... I said it about ten times. Yeah. And you specifically said it was a comedy first, but then mentioned romance in it. So I think it's something...

funny to start out with and then the romance blooms later type of thing i'm trying to think of shy girls who are good at everything uh there's two that came to mind but as a comedy i think did you mention there was like school involved or no i let me check i might have i said that she was athletic smart perfect

that was what i mentioned athletic smart and perfect but she's shy okay because i i'm thinking of two people one in school and one's not in school so i'm gonna go the safe route if it's bait i got baited i'm gonna go with comey can't communicate and three four okay okay yeah that makes sense

Yeah. Alrighty. That is where my mind went as well. I think I can't think of any other show that would fit as of right now, at least. So I'm going to go with Komi-san as well. However, I don't think that his review was that that negative. It was just more like I'm bored than it was. I'm offended or I think the show's bad. So I'm going to go with the five six category, but I am going Komi-san five six.

Okay. Pete, what was your other pick? I was thinking Your Forger, and I was thinking Spy Family. Oh. That would have been interesting. So, I was hoping I would trick somebody with this, but unfortunately for me, it failed.

It was Comey can't communicate. And it's a four out of 10. So Pete got three points. Pat got one. Kat got one. Pete, I was hoping you would guess high score girl because she sounds a lot like Ono.

I don't think she's at, is she athletic in high score girl? That's the thing. I was trying to think. She is trained in martial arts. Okay. I, I forgot. And I just thought Comey was like, also like a track athlete, if I remember correctly. So that's kind of like what put it like, that's why I was also thinking your forger. Cause she's like,

you know a freaking ninja more than that she's superwoman yeah I was really hoping the video games sentence would have tricked you but turns out it didn't that's a good one that is a good one

I'm happy I got it right. I didn't know Comey was an athlete. I kind of just took the gamble because I was like, well, there's like a track and field episode and I think she does well, but like, that's it. I think in terms of athletic, like athleticism is gone. It's the physical aptitude test that they, uh, that's the episode, uh, where she's, uh, where she's running and does and outperforms everyone. She's not actually a track athlete at all. Thank you. Yeah.

I think she's a track athlete in the manga. Anyway, Cat, you're up next. I am up next. All right. So my first review is Slice of Life. Slice of Life. Okay. One of the biggest draws of this anime for me was that it was adults in an adult world not dealing with any supernatural stuff. It's a change of pace from so much of the rest of the anime out there. They deal with real life adult issues and this anime delivered that and

And as a gigantic departure from so many other anime and media in general, they don't shy away from using actual brand names. The animation itself is very solid, the voice acting is very good, almost all of it is

Understated, which goes to the vibe of the show. The music, when you notice it, works. I generally like a lot of the characters. Two things. One, I said I generally like a lot of the characters, but I like them at an arm's length. Over 12 episodes was the show, which with this show, each episode feels long. I couldn't feel any connection with any of them.

It's like every character was kept at arm's length. I don't think that that's what they were going for.

Some were supposed to engender some level of empathy and connectedness, but for me, none of them clicked. I know sometimes the goal is for one or more characters, but I don't... That's the goal for one or more characters, but I don't think that's what they were going for there. Everyone just seems so muted and detached. I don't know if it's because the anime characters are, in general, are over the top,

are so over the top that everyone here was normal, so they came off as flat, or their idea of sophisticated or something, but I had a hard time cheering that hard for anyone. Two, the show became unintentional comedy at certain points, with how up its own ass about blank it was.

Look, there's no slight against Blank at all, but even in a show called Blank, it was too much. And, uh, I wish these characters were a little bit more engaging, and that's gonna be the end of the review. Okay. Huh. So, not a whole lot to go off of, other than it's a slice of life with adults. Um...

thank god i will also mention that they do use brand names yeah that does seem very specific and that seems like an anime i should know off the top of my head that does that maybe it's a movie and a lot of times no yeah because sometimes movies use real brand names and shows mcdonald's with shinkai yeah that's what i was thinking but those aren't really slice of life's

I think you mentioned something about making something as well. You said something along the lines of even if it's its name, it's too much for the show. That makes me seem like the name has something to do with something in this show. Like Food Wars has too much food in it or something like that. Man, I don't really know a whole lot of slice of life with adult cast, so I'm going to go with...

uh daimon recipe for happiness pete you're the slice of life guy you have to carry us here it's my second favorite genre i don't know as much but oh and i'm gonna go with uh i'm gonna go three four okay all right um yeah like uh like pete said all the details are very scarce um

Uh, he did miss the 12 episodes comment though. So I guess he ended up missing a show anyway. Good thing you guessed a show anyways. I was wondering if you were going to pick like a Shinkai movie by accident or not. Uh, just going off of what I know about you and like racking my brain for a slice of life with adult cast. Uh,

I'm going to go with My Roommate is a Cat. That's a great guess. I really have no other ideas. There was nothing really in the review that made me think of that other than the characters are kind of bland. I like them enough, though, that I wanted to keep watching, but they didn't really attach to me that much. And yeah, that's my guess. And I wish I could do a 6-7, but I'm going to do 5-6 just to be on the safe side. Okay.

That's the exact range I want to do. It just sounds like the perfect 6-7 review. Luckily, I've watched My Roommate is a Cat recently, and I don't remember any actual brands in it, so it can't be that. Yeah, damn it. All right. So I'm happy about that. And, like, I doubt this is a show I've seen because, like,

I'd usually notice when shows use like Katakawa or McDonald's or like Highscore Girl literally had every single Bandai Namco game ever made in the 80s. I'm going to go with Gamers. Oh, what a poll. What? Because they make games. Or is that New Game? I don't know. That's not. Yeah, that's I was gonna say Gamers is high school.

Well, thanks, Pete. New game. 5-6. I always get those two confused. I'm very glad I did a good job choosing this review. None of you got it right. Is that a good thing? The anime is Bartender Glass of God. Oh my god. Okay, okay.

That's not a real anime. It is. I watched it. Is that legal as a slice of life? It is. I wouldn't put that as a drama, but if it's legal as a slice of life, then that's what it is. And it uses every single real brand. That makes sense. What was the score? The score is a 7. God damn it. If we could do custom...

It's zero. If we could do custom, me and Pat would at least have one. Big ol' goose egg. Yeah. I'm glad I chose this review. This was...

I like there, I knew that there was one thing in the original view, the original review that I absolutely had to remove. And that was, it mentioned Smirnoff and I could not bring that in because it would be a big clue. Yeah. That's a good, that's a good removal.

Okay, well, I mean, that's only the first round. We still got another round to go. After the first round, I have three, Kat has three, Pat, you have two, and Preston, you have one. So really anybody's game, though. I only got one out of the three correct, and I just happened to get the bonus points, though. Really anybody's game. Moving into round two, I'm going to let you guys choose. Do you guys want the long review that I have or the short review? Which one's funnier? I think they're both pretty funny. Okay.

I think the delusion... Let's go with the short one. I'm going to do the short one because if I have to use the long one in overtime, then I'm going to need you guys... It's a tougher overtime one than this one. This one's fun because it has an edit. So here we go. Oh, even better. That's going to be great. All right, here we go. Round two, where all points are doubled and then halved. Okay. Oh, no.

Real quick, this one's really short, okay? The action, or is it the action? The genre's action. I feel like this show gets a bad rap. I can understand why people wouldn't like it, but still, I see all the one ratings and I'm like, damn, how are you going to rate a 150 episode show after just watching 15 episodes? The story is all over the place, but that's just how the show is. The animation is nice and it's even better looking than some mainstream anime.

This is also good. I'm not, this is like the actual grammar. This is also good. I like the sound effects that go with certain powers. Characters are a little confusing and bad at first, but the story goes on. They get more mature. I am a fan of the series and I really liked watching this. It's nice seeing all the characters grow up with families. Sorry, grown up with family. Overall,

I really do like the show. To the people who gave it one ratings, I beg you to just watch the rest of it. Sure, the characters could be annoying at first, but isn't that why character development exists? Question mark. I like it, but hey, you have your own opinions. Edit. After 200 episodes, the series really picks up. Like, I know me saying after 200 episodes may sound bad, but jeez.

So, so much people who quit before 100 don't know what they're missing. Gentlemen, I need the show and the score. Oh my god. Oh, I know this. I know this. Uh, Pat, you go first. Oh, no. Over 200 episodes, huh? Um...

Also, if you are watching a 150 episode show and you watch 15 episodes and it's not clicking, you could totally drop the show. Like that is 100% valid if you gave it six hours of watch time and it wasn't clicking. But hey, after 200 episodes, it's bumping. It's bumping.

Apparently. All right. Well, I feel like the bait answer here is obviously One Piece, right? That feels like the bait. But knowing Pete, I don't think he would do that to me in this scenario, not with One Piece at least. So...

Just, I also was thinking that Gintama maybe, although that's technically kind of split up into seasons so people don't really view it as like a 100 plus show. You know what I mean? Like when referring to like one piece, you're like, oh, it's just one piece. I think the series is, and then it's like the 1400 movies it has is like separate.

No, a bunch of the seasons are separated. Are they? Yeah, like season one has a bunch of episodes. Season two has a bunch of episodes. And then as it keeps going on, it gets less and less episodes because they stopped doing the launch shonen thing. Oh, you're right. They did do that.

That's why I was saying, like, you look at the top-rated anime list, and, like, Gintama's littered all over it. Yeah, most of it's the actual seasons, not the movies. However, now I'm gonna flip this all 100% different direction here. I'm gonna go with a show that's on my plan to watch list still, that I think has just the right number of episodes or just around that. I'm gonna go with The Prince of Tennis as my answer. I love it!

And because I do think like it described, like surely the surely that's got to be it. I'm big brain. And they liked it a lot. So I think I'm going to go nine out of ten or nine or ten. OK, sounds good. Before before I guess, Kat, you have a guess because I know my answer no matter what. And you're going to get three points off of me because I'm right.

I don't fucking know. Okay, you're going to get three points because they mentioned a few things. The 150 episodes and then the edit to 200. That edit secured it in my mind because I dropped this show after 150 episodes because I hated it. And it has an all grown up cast because it's from the previous series. This is Boruto.

And this is a 9 out of 10. Okay. It became bumping because 200 episodes in, that's when they finally got back to the manga. And it wasn't just filler.

And that's when Kishimoto came back and started writing. So it is that 100%. That's a good guess. I didn't even think about that. Like, I was thinking Naruto and Shippuden, but I was like, wait, you know, there's no way. Like, that doesn't make any sense. But now I see it. I see what you're saying. All the ones as well, because it's massacred what Naruto created. All right, Kat, you're up.

I want you to know that as you were talking, I was literally making more tabs of shows that it might have been...

So that I would be like, okay, these are all the shows, and I've never thought about Boruto. But as soon as you explained it, it clicked. It made so much sense, because I remember being in some of those Boruto discussions about how the manga is okay, but the anime is absolutely ass. So yeah, that's Boruto.

Yeah, I think if we go down to hell, we get it together. It's a 9 out of 10. Okay. Well, you guys are all getting one point. It was a 9 out of 10. However, none of you got the show. It was Naruto Shippuden. Just kidding, it's Boruto. Okay. I got excited for a second. I was about to lose it. I was about to lose it.

I don't understand why everybody's giving it a 1. Oh, I don't know. Because the show sucks? Okay, well, Kat and Preston, you guys got 3 points and Pat got 1. Pat, you're up. I'm hanging in there. You're welcome, Kat. I appreciate it. Alrighty. This is my second review. Genre of fantasy. I used to be agnostic, but this anime has turned me into an atheist. Oh my god.

Seriously, look at this abomination and tell me there's a God. Where did we go wrong? I had just started forgiving JC staff for One Punch Man Season 2, but now my anger and disappointment, mainly disappointment, have been rekindled. This show is an anime about a guy being transported to another world. You might be thinking, okay, it's another one of those, but don't be hasty because there's a twist. It's about a boy who gets transported to another world along with a family member.

I know what it is. It's this show. I know what it is. It's this fucking show.

It's an okay premise, but the execution is absolutely horrendous. Filled with cliches, insipid comedy, and your usual harem setup, whatever enjoyment could have been found is lost. The plot heavily relies on oversaturated tropes and fan service. The characters have no personality of their own, and their characterization relies on the setting instead of being the other way around.

I will not be getting into the fan service aspect of the show in this review. All you need to know about it is that it's probably a degenerate weebs specific fantasy. The main cast of characters consists of your quintessential unsophisticated harem protagonist and his family member, a tsundere, a loli, and another weird character, all of whom don't contribute anything to make the setting interesting. There's one more annoying recurring character who makes garbage puns for the sake of dry and bland comedy as well. The characters really get as banal as they can be.

The tsundere girl is basically a tsundere girl, nothing more, nothing less. The pink-haired loli basically annoys you with her helium-infested voice. What a way to describe a voice. It feels like no character has a free will of their own and are just following in the footsteps of their ancient counterparts that have been seen about a billion of times in other anime.

The lead is practically a useless character, as he's only used for slapstick comedy and for worthless virgins to project themselves upon, and he's the protagonist. His family member is just an irksome heap of tits, ass, and seizure-inducing voice. Speaking of seizure-inducing voice, the voice actors try their best to produce the most painful voice they can.

Every character sounds like someone scratched a blackboard with their fingernails. The voice acting is pure cringe. Whenever I don't like a character in a movie or anime, I express my anger on the character as I know that the actors and voice actors are just playing the roles they're given. But the family member's cringy AF voice makes me want to punch the voice actress in the face. But then again, I should perhaps direct my anger towards the writer.

Good self-reflection going on in this review. You know, some therapy going on in this review. He's talking it out in real time. This is stuff removed as well. The comedy is deplorable. The author probably watched a bunch of harem and East guy anime and tried to parody them, but utterly failed.

The lines are insipidly delivered with no regards to character's emotional state. Family member always sounds cringy. The lead always sounds like a basic bitch. The tsundere is always stuck up. The derry derry has as much personality as a whiteboard. And I really don't know how the lolly sounds because I had to lower the volume whenever she spoke as I don't have the mental or physical strength to endure her helium infected lolly voice.

The music is bland, and I was really pissed when they didn't play Sweet Home Alabama even once. The animation is basic. I don't even know what I expected from this show, and I'm shocked and disappointed in myself, mostly disappointed, for having finished this show. So, guys, what show could this be? Preston, give me your best guess. If this isn't a 1-2, I don't know what is. Um...

I'm going to just go off of a message in discord to read out this full name. It's, is it, my guess will be, do you love your mom and her two hit multi-target attacks? And that will be my guess with a one to two. Got it. Alrighty. Next up is cat. Correct. Cat. What have you got? I don't tend to watch a lot of, uh, a lot of is a guy with anywhere near, uh,

incestual undertones so my first thoughts went to uh bless her uh the master of ragnarok and the but conception is conception he comes in by itself and i absolutely undermines the wait no wait no it might be conception

Because he does come in with a sibling. Because that was the other thing. That's why I didn't think that the mom... Did he say sibling? I think so. I said family member. I specifically replaced it with family member because it could be one of any part of the family. It could be anything. It could be the dog. It could be the family dog for all that matters. It's Isekai Opa, guys.

But it did also explicitly say that they needed to appreciate each other a little bit more. Okay, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. That line helped me be secure in my thoughts. Okay. Yeah, actually, the more that I talk it out, the more that I push myself away from my choices. I'm going to do the same thing I did last round, and I'm going to steal Preston's dick.

uh three or four though i vote he has to get the name right to get the points oh what number did you say you love your mom and your uh and your and her uh overpowered to hit uh it's a kill power whatever the hell close enough close enough i'm sorry what score would you say three to four all righty

and lastly pete what have you got just for the visual listeners on my notepad and i'll show my so you guys you can't really see it but i wrote do you love her mother because that's immediately what i went with after you said you were specifically saying family member and not like sibling because i was also thinking no game no life but then i was like i don't think jabril is a lolly

And I'm pretty sure sort of like the handyman person in the mom show is like the pink lolly who sounds like she's sucking up helium. I didn't mind her voice actress though. The show is awful. The show is especially the OVA. Oh my God. That OVA is the worst. One of the worst OVAs I've ever seen in anime. I'm going to go one to two and I'm going to go with dude, love your mother and her two hit multi-target attack. Alrighty.

So based on my quick maths, Pete and Preston are getting three points. It was, do you love your mom or your, it's not just any mom. Do you, do you love your mom and her to hit multi-target attacks? Question mark or affectionately or unaffectionately depending on who you ask.

Referred to as well as Okasan Online. I think that's a pretty funny nickname. I love that name. It's a pretty funny nickname. Yeah, this show stunk. And I did rely a little bit on family member pulling the weight. But yeah, it also was a one. So...

Pete and Preston. I hope so after the first line. I know, right? Yeah, no, they really dislike this show. So, Kat, you do still get one point for getting the correct show. Pete and Preston are getting three each. The OVA, I have a two. It is terrible. Is that the onsen one or whatever? It's like a beach of some sort, I think. Maybe an onsen. It's a beach episode. I don't know. I haven't seen it.

I remember it. It was really bad. Yeah, I don't know why I watched this show either. I think I thought it would be funny. We all went through a phase. I think we thought it would be funny, though, when it was first announced, kind of in like a... Yeah, that's why I watched it. Yeah.

I mean, fair enough, but... Not because of the hot MILF on screen. The way that this person referred to the characters was colorful, we'll say. Sucking up helium. Irksome heap of tits and ass and seizure-inducing voice is a crazy, crazy line. Like...

I can't believe that this person existed. You took a college course in order to make a bad review. They said that about the mom? Yes. The mom has a great voice actress. That's crazy.

He also said he wanted to fight them, so that's pretty crazy too. So yeah, this guy had a bad day and clearly watched the show at the wrong time. But yeah, Preston, this time you won't get your answer stolen by Kat because you are going up first. Let's hear whether or not you're going first. Give your review, please. Okay, this show is a drama.

And I'll just tell you now, in case you get confused later, this is a sequel season review. The entire premise of season one was main girl being a boss-ass bitch, clearing up misunderstandings, and navigating relationships by communicating. And then they threw all that away in season two. What the fuck kind of misunderstanding is getting brokenhearted over not feeling the same like...

I get it that they're like 15 and main girl hasn't had much experience with friendship nor bromance, but she's not a complete idiot.

Whatever the writers did to build main girl character for season one threw that out the window when they decided to write her as some dumbass who doesn't think about not a single thing in the world. Because there was no need for an eight episode long miscommunication arc when the entire premise of season one was trying so hard for it to not come to that point.

Did the writers think we would be feeling bad or emotional about the whole situation? No. It just makes the audience frustrated. The whole season was 1. Main Girl misinterprets what Main Boy says or does. 2. Her friends cheer her up by giving real advice. 3. She forgets about all of the advice and makes up the most baseless conclusions and takes what Main Girl says out of context.

The show calls her dense, but it's giving dumb ass fuck. That is the end of the review. Wow. I feel like we got to talk this one out. So, okay. It's a drama. It's a second season. It's a second season where the first season was really good. And then the second season was really bad.

Right. What shows have really bad second seasons outside of The Promised Neverland? I was about to say it's The Promised Neverland. That was my first thought as well when it was bashing on the second season. Man. The main character is a white girl. If you want.

I can give the second genre that I have her in down, even though I think you can interpret it from the review. I'm assuming it's a romance is the second. It is a drama romance. Okay. And she's so she's a boss bitch. It's season one. Wait, season one. Who's a boss bitch in season one?

to romance the second? I have a question for you, Preston, and you can say it. Yes. I'll answer it, fuck it, depending on how, well, it might be bad to answer. I'll answer it, unless I don't. Yeah. I realize Kat says some shit that's out of left field and would be bad to answer. Yeah. What's your mom's name? Oh, uh...

Patricia. I didn't actually need you to answer. That's a lie. That's a lie, Pat. I hoped. I hope. I think I know what it was. What did you say fuck me for? What's your mom saying? Okay. So, main girl is boss bitch. Boss ass bitch, yes.

And his second season is... She was no longer a boss-ass bitch. Okay. Her friends would give her real advice. Oh, man. I have no idea. I think the score is 3 or 4. Okay. Hopefully gonna go Golden, Tom. I don't know. I don't know. That show has one season. Also, it'll be tough since the main character is a dude. Yeah. And they're not 15.

Oh yeah, that's true. That's a really bad guess. When you're on the spot and you gotta think of something, I get it. It's hard. It's hard. No, it is hard. Yeah, it's a valid guess for sure. I had to break this down because I was having a hard time thinking of multiple season dramas that turn into romance. But then I realized who was giving the review and it all came together. This is a 5-6 and I believe this is the second season of Fruits Baskets.

Ah, yeah. I never watched Fruits Basket, so I wouldn't know. Pete, haven't you seen season one? What? I was asking Kat if he's seen season one of Fruits Basket. Oh, nope. Good show. Yeah, so Pete, well done. I think you and I are both...

Going to get three points here because I also had written down Roots Basket eventually there and 5-6 as well. I'm pretty confident on the 5-6 range because you don't watch a second season and then write a review for it unless...

you at least or finish it too. You know, you don't finish it unless you at least liked it enough to finish it, you know? So I think, I think anything lower would be very surprising. I started with inspector at the beginning of the review, because it was all about solving mysteries or solving things. Then I was like, Oh, maybe bunny girl would work, but not, it's technically not really seasons after the first one.

But I do think Fruits Basket's the answers. Yeah, and OVA's or whatever. So I do think it is Fruits Basket. I did have that written down. I think I wrote it down when Kat was talking, though. I didn't write it down before we started deliberating. You can steal my answers. That's cool. No, no, I know. I swear. I just, I swear to God. I agree. Like, it's part of the game. I just, for my own sake, I did not steal it. I swear.

I handed Kat six points and he still only got four somehow. So I'll just tell you this now. First season was also a drama romance. It didn't turn into a romance. It was always a drama romance. And it is not Fruits Basket. What? Is it Spice and Wolf?

It is not Spice and Wolf. Oh my god, what other shows could it be? Nisekoi? It is not Nisekoi. That's a comedy. The show was rated a 4 out of 10. This is the second season of Kimi ni Tadouke. Wow! Okay.

Uh, yep. Definitely not a romance first. Definitely not. Definitely not drama first. No way. It is. That's what the charm rose on mouse. Oh, no, no. I think that's just alphabetical, but it is. Well, yes, just, it is definitely not a drama first.

It has two genres on Mal, and I figured you would interpret some romance through it, so I just gave the other one. No, no, for sure. It's fine. Because Kimi no Rie was the other one I was thinking of. I would just definitely think it's a romance first before it's a drama.

But it is a drama romance, so it's not like you were wrong. You fooled me. But Cat got a point, so... Cat got a point. He's the only one that got a point. Cat actually is the only one who got a point. Okay, Cat, you're up. Wrap it up. Final round, by the way. Let me see what the score is. I thought you guys were going to guess one to two off of that. It seemed like a pretty middle-of-the-road review. Yeah, that's how I felt, too. It didn't feel like...

particularly passionate either direction, you know, at least not to me. Okay. I take the tinge of negativity. So, okay. So this is the cat's the last review. So cat, you finished with eight points. So you're technically in the lead at the moment. Uh, pressing you're at second, you're in second with seven. Uh, I have six and Pat, you have three.

As I say, I think I'm out of it, boys. So me impressing could win it here. Otherwise, Kat, you got the lead going into the last one. So whenever you're ready, take it away. All righty. So this show is a comedy. Great animation won't save this comedy from absolute failure.

Overall, if you're looking for a fast-paced, pop-cultured, infused humor of blank, the strangest of blank or the cuteness of blank look elsewhere. I can't say the names of those shows. Nichijou, fuck me. Wow, okay, well, now we know what the show is. Okay, I got one point at least. I have a second review. Do your backup.

Please do your backup. That's why I... I'm going to guess Nichijou and two... Seven, eight, Nichijou. Yeah. That was so bad. This is why every time I edit my reviews, I purposely change the names to main character and then the show to this show. I never keep aspects. I typically do, but I think

I think the 80s missed one. Yeah, I just missed one too because I control effort to like find it every instance of the word. No, that's it. We've all maybe we haven't all done it, but we've all come close to pretty close. Yeah, other people have definitely done it too. I feel like I've done it once during the review once. I have an extra one if you need one as well. Cat still that cat was supposed to bring three and it looks like he's Googling up one right now.

right now. No, I've got this one. This one was the least edited one. I'm going through it and blanking out all the other things. Run with it. If you guys somehow end up tied, I can... I have my final one.

So, the second season of Blank for sure did not live up to the first season. For some context, I watched the second season of this show after I finished the first season. I did not watch Blank as...

no shit sorry you watched the second season after the first season really reviewer congrats sorry sorry cat i just oh no no you're you're good uh i did not watch blank as the basic plot had already been made known to us in the first season i think it could have been blank i don't know uh

My reasoning for doing this was because I wanted the story to keep on going and watch this later on, but man, I sure was wrong. The pace of the plot from the very start is fine, the animation, the voice acting, and the rest is all on point.

But as the plot progresses, it's so fucking slow. I cannot stress this enough. I mean, the plot does not move forward at all. It is filled with unnecessary dialogue. The characters are pondering so long over petty things only filled with unnecessary dialogue with the characters pondering so long over petty things only in the end...

To brush them aside, saying that they don't matter, but then the characters think about another petty thing or problem, and the cycle starts again. Just think about two or three episodes in succession where the character, whoever's point of view the story is being told from, wanders around town all the time monologuing what to do about a problem at hand, and then arriving at no clear conclusion.

The plot is dragged through the mud and it becomes so boring and impossible to binge watch without feeling like you should go take a walk outside. I'm sorry about being so vague, but I just don't want to give any spoilers. So in conclusion, the plot pace is slow, but it is not all that bad, I feel, in my opinion.

It does not give off enough of the OG vibes. And, spoiler, Blake is rarely even seen in this season. And that's the end of the review. I legit do not know what you said. Oh, give me a second. The genre is mystery. Mystery. Wait, wait, wait. What? The f- Yep.

Well, that changes everything that I was going to go with. Because I was thinking... Well, does that have a mystery genre? Because it's an alphabetical order. So it could be like mystery... What's after M? Romance. Half of the alphabet. Yeah. Correct. Thank you, Preston. I appreciate that. Because originally I was thinking...

it was either going to be Harui Suzumiya season 2, and we're talking about Endless 8, or we're talking about that time I got reincarnated as a slime, and we're talking about the freaking, what's it called? Oh, yeah. The Pantheon, they just talk for like six episodes. Yeah. But if this is a second season of a show with a mystery as the main genre, I guess. It is one of the genres. There are four. Well...

The genre should be what the show is. That is what the show is. Okay, if it's a mystery show, the aspect of the show should be centered around mystery. Okay. Yeah. Okay, so if it's a... I'm just... Even though I'm just all hope that this is just like a really poorly written review, I'm gonna go with Apothecary Diaries because I really can't think of a mystery show with like a second season, really. So I'm gonna go with Apothecary. Okay. 3-4. Okay. All right.

I yeah I was a little lost until the end the like I was kind of like again in that oh is it bunny girl inspector something along those lines because like the I was almost leaning mystery before you even said it like if I had to guess the genre I would have guessed that as well um the wandering around town may had me thinking of like yeah that was like bunny girl or a gyru as well but

Yeah, mystery. I don't think Oregairu would call itself a mystery. Not at all. Not at all, right? I would hope not. So then I kind of stumbled into probably a wrong answer, as we've proven throughout today. I think it's ReZero, because they mention multiple seasons, and then they also mention that a certain character or blank is absent for most of the season.

Oh, I forgot you said that. Oh, and there's a lot of people that get stuck. There's a lot of, and, and the, they say that, oh, it feels like nothing happens for a few episodes. Lots of talking. What happens in ReZero? The same shit. It's Groundhog Day over and over again. So I think that, I think I, here's the thing though, Pete, based off everything that we've done today, I'm going to be wrong. Um,

I think it's a 5 to 6 range as well, because it sounds like this person liked the show, and you don't want to review bomb a bad season of your show that you like, I would think at least. So I'm going to go 5 to 6. But I'm probably going to be wrong about that too. Preston, what's your answer? Fuck if I know. Walked around town, character was missing, so like, can't be Haruhi, even though

has a mystery genre. I know it does. The ReZero one is a good guess, but also I would think fantasy would be its main genre. If it's ReZero, it should be fantasy. It should be. Walking around town... I hate mysteries. I can never guess mysteries. I have no clue. 5, 6, and...

I'll go ReZero. I'll just piggyback off of Pat, because I have no clue. I got a big back. I'll carry you. Don't worry. Okay. Instead of giving you the exact answer, I'm going to reread the second paragraph. For some context, I watched the second season after I finished the first season. I did not watch Neko as the basic plot had already been known for. It's Monogatari. It's Monogatari. Oh, yeah. Okay. Okay.

That's fair. Oh, you cut out Neko. I was like, if you would have said Neko, I would have gotten... Oh, that makes way more sense. He did cut it out. Yeah, he said blank. I didn't watch blank. That makes so much... Yeah, and I was wondering if it was something along those lines, too. But that's why I said, oh, ReZero has, like, the OVA, right? Between the two, technically? Or was it a movie with the white whale? No, the white whale was the second season. That's the end of the first season. Oh, it is. That's right. It's the first season. Okay. I mean, that's good...

Baki Monogatari makes perfect sense. It does. And the reviewers rating is a 5. So me and Kat tied. You and I are tied. Oh baby. You guys are better than Pete. We'll get to the finals here in a second. Between Kat and Preston. Pat, you got dead last. You got 4 points.

I got six. So Kat and Preston, you guys are going to go into the overtime. I'll go first. If you guys both get it wrong, then Pat, you'll do yours. Make sure you write it down. Preston doesn't have a camera, so he will answer first. I'm going to DM Pat. Oh, do you want to do that? Yep. I'll give you time to think, and then you'll say your answer. Kat, you'll write down your answer and your score. You're not allowed to change it after the fact, though. You can DM me, Preston, too, for validity, I guess, if that makes sense. Yeah.

And then read it out after, I guess that was all my point was just to. Okay, here we go. Sounds good. Over time between cat and Preston, the genres are superpower and action.

Sometimes I don't get anime fans. If you've paid attention to the sales charts, you'll see that this show current sales numbers are going toe-to-toe with Shirobako, aka the most acclaimed and important anime series in recent times. And that just baffles me. You can tell that this review might be a little years old.

I mean, KyoAni's own beautiful anime with believable characters and motivation, depth to its story, and importantly of all, actual changes the characters have to overcome in the same season around the same time, and yet it's sold decently, which is below the studio's usual standards.

Okay fine, maybe this anime has a swanky soundtrack. Maybe it's being directed by one of the most dynamic TV directors in the current market. Maybe it's one of the most unique and eye-catching premises to come out of the market in years. But this on a whole is just not the least bit good. And I don't understand why anyone is trying to convince me otherwise.

Unfortunately, the Maga decided that his new work that this show would be a generic slice of life story combined with Baccano's tone. And you know what that means? Let's do absolutely fuck all while trying to cover up the fact that this show has a lot of energy. Honestly, I'm still racking my brain regarding who contributed more to this show's problem. But to make no mistake, neither the production team nor the original writer helped me in making this show good.

The phrase, nothing interesting happens is overused in general, let alone by me, but I can't think of a better summary of this show's problems, aside from it being eloquently and eating nothing but a giant bag of M&M's for lunch. Sounds appealing at first, but until you become sick, and even in 10 minutes, you've got 5-6 of the bag still to go through.

The show does not live up to the hype surrounding it pre or post release. I'll be fair and admit that not even Cowboy Bebop would have to live up to the amount of jizz that is covered in before this is airing. All the show's good traits are from Matsumoto's dynamic direction to the adding credits are outnumbered by the shit ones.

Namely, the fact that there's so much about these characters and settings that's ripe and good for storytelling, and yet it is wasted on predictable humor, shallow characterization, and pointless worldbuilding. Also, dear God, does the action suck a big fat one. It's completely one-sided and keeps favoring stylization over interesting choreography.

The finale in particular avoiding to scratch the action loving itch of mine when it comes to take them down with a bunch of faceless. I'm not going to say that word because it could be. I can't believe that that got through a bunch of face like possible racial slur that stood perfectly still and took it from the top. All of this horrendously boring and overly long philosophical dialogue.

Okay, okay, okay. I'm going to give you guys like 20 seconds if you have any questions. I think I know the show. I think I know the show. I just don't remember its name. Do you want me to repeat any sentences? I can do that. But I'm going to give you guys about 20 seconds. Can you repeat like the sentence...

before the Baccano one and then the Baccano one. Sure. Unfortunately, the Magica decided for his new work that this show would be a generic slice of life story combined with Baccano's tone. And you know what that means? Let's do absolutely fuck all whilst trying to cover up the fact that this show has a lot of energy. That being said, the genres are superpower and action. Yeah, okay, okay, okay, okay.

Kat, have you written down an answer and a score yet? I've written down a score. This is going to be my answer. I'm going to give you like 10 seconds. Preston, you got your answer and score? Yep, I just sent Pat it. Okay. Kat, write down your final answer. Yep, it's there. Okay, Preston, go first. Okay, so...

I was stuck between... What's the... Is it Tiger and Bunny? Is that what that show's called? The Netflix show? Yeah. Okay. I was thinking that for a while, but then Bacchanal was mentioned, and maybe you just left it because it's a comparison and not actually the same, but I think Tiger and Honey is also an original, so it doesn't work. I think this is Durarara.

It's the same mangaka as Baccano. I know that for a fact. And I'm going to guess 1 to 2. Okay. Kat, what did you write down? Ooh, I... So, there's a lot of... This is all backwards, but... Oh, yep. I wrote down Blood Blakade Battlefront and 3 to 4. That's a really good guess, Kat. But you're... Well, no. It's not Tio Annie, is it? Yeah. Yeah.

I like to guess that. Isn't Shirobako KyoAni? Is that why it was mentioned? No, I think AkioAni was airing in that season. Oh, okay. So that's why they said that? Yes. Yes. Okay. Well, your guys' guesses are in, and I am happy to inform that one of you is winning based off guessing the score correctly.

And the show correctly. It was Blood Blockade Battlefront, and it was a three out of four. Cat. Wow. Cat. Okay. You got the dumb, my man. Let's go. You're on the podium. Do you have any final words to your adoring fan? Cheat. It's part of the game. This cheater was looking at Mal the whole time.

I wasn't looking at reviews I was just having like looking at the show it seemed oh this show has these genres that's cheating we'll discuss it afterwards it's whatever it doesn't matter I don't think I lost because of that I just lost yeah that's true too I was thinking that as well because the thing with following people behind is they could be wrong and you could get caught up in whatever the person was saying but cat congratulations man you won thank you

I was not expecting. I mean, you got the show right. You got the score right. It worked out perfectly. So that is Mal Review Game 8. Congratulations to the cat. Have you won before? Is this your first dub, second dub? I don't think so. I think I might have tied before. We tied before. And then I read Pete's review. Yes, you did. You did slow loop. I remember that.
