Miles, how's it going? And what are your initial thoughts on the upcoming season? We will never be clean from our sins, Pete. Let the raid fall down. Yeah, this was an interesting season to look at. The things that I am excited about are pretty not the things that are popular as far as season ones of things go.

So I'm interested to see your thoughts on it because I think there's some interesting stuff this season, but I don't know how much of it's going to hit with me. Also, there's some really good sequels this season that we'll touch on at the end. But we do get some... It's always good to have more...

you know, shows continuing. So yeah. Yeah. Uh, for me, this is like, if you're like an anime fan, like if you like anime and like all things anime, I think the season is stacked. I think there's so much that you can dive into. Um, we have like our super high popular Shonen series with, uh,

Fire Force and Windbreaker coming back and we have like new a brand new original with like one of the biggest names attached to it and we also have like really fun and I think interesting concepts for shows coming out so if you're a fan of like the broad spectrum of anime I think there's gonna be a fantastic season and I'm really looking forward to I think I have something like 21 shows on my plan to watch so I got a lot yeah I think the season is going to be great I

um yeah why don't we just jump into our first one i kind of even mentioned it it was uh

Attached to it is Shinchiro Watanabe, creator of Cowboy Bebop, Carol and Tuesday, those properties. And it's MAPPA at the helm with the new original property, Lazarus. The year is 2052, an era of unproceeding peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this? Mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Peace Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure for all...

A miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna. Let's go with Hapuna. Hapuna Bacada, or whatever it's called. We'll find out soon enough. Soon becomes ubiquitous. Essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

Three years later, the world has moved on, but Dr. Skinner has returned, this time as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that the Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world and coming soon.

As a response to this threat, a special task force of five agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner's plan. This group is called Lazarus. Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out? I will keep it 100 with you. I only knew about, like, MAPPA attached to this and Shinshiro Watanabe attached to this. I did not read the synopsis until literally right now. I saw the preview or the PV and it looked pretty cool. This is like, what? This is limitless, but, um...

They know who makes it, and then they have to... Oh my god, have you ever seen Mission Impossible 2? No. Okay, in Mission Impossible 2, Tom Cruise has to find this vaccine in 22 hours, or the person that he loves dies, or whatever. It reminds me of Mission Impossible 2. That movie was terrible, by the way, so...

I was really hyped coming into this and then reading it. Uh, not as much, uh, miles, your thoughts on Lazarus. Okay. Well, I'm glad to hear that. So socks and I had a conversation when this dropped, right? When they first dropped this, uh, description, what feels like forever ago. I have no idea what happened. It could have been two months ago. It could have been a year. I do not know. Um,

But, like, this seems kind of... I think it seems kind of stupid. It does. I mean, obviously I'm going to have to watch it. There's, like, enough interesting stuff here. But, like, some of it just doesn't make any sense. Like, the... Okay, so if the drug's half-life is three years, that's actually, like, insanely long. That's, like, absurdly long. You know, so, like, a half-life would be how long it would take for, like, half of it to be...

But yeah, I mean, I'll be interested to see it because of like the names and stuff attached to it. And like, I don't like maybe something got lost in translation of the synopsis. Maybe it's kind of a dumb premise, but also just good. You know, like it's not like there's never been a show that isn't sort of stupid, but also very good at the same time. You know, so if we get the character work we get from something like Cowboy Bebop or Carl Tuse or whatever, then like, okay, yeah, sure. It's a little dumb, but

the basis is there, you know, but I'm just not completely sold on this, I guess. Even the, speaking of Cowboy Bebop, like the, like the picture for like the preview art for the show looks like Cowboy Bebop even has like the color gradients of like the characters in the art. So it's, it's very reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop ask.

I just hope it's more Limitless than Mission Impossible 2. If it's dumb, silly fun like Limitless was, I'm all for it. I love that movie. It's not good, but I've watched it 12 times. Yeah, okay. The part where he drinks the blood...

I don't know if like Adult Swim paid for it or whatever or helped fund it. But I don't know. The last six anime that Adult Swim has helped have been massive duds. So are we getting another Uzumaki? And I think if you're someone who is coming to us because you watch a couple of seasonals and for whatever reason you care about our opinions, this is something that I would wait a couple of episodes on to see what the general feedback is. You know, if you're like, okay, I'm going to watch like three seasonals and I just sort of want to wait to see which ones will pop off or whatever, because I,

identified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the Space Force and the police appears before her along with this pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era. So I have seen the first three episodes of this. Yes, please spit. And I won't completely spoil it, but what I will say is that this should be technically standalone, right? You don't need to have seen other Gundam, though it is sort of like an alternative version

from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. So either having seen Origin or Gundam 79, I think would greatly enhance enjoyment of this. Though I do think even if you haven't, you'll just sort of miss some of the changes and current characters and stuff. But from what I've seen, the plot line is more or less self-sufficient.

This is written by Hideki Anno, right? Yeah, he's like a part of the team. I'm not entirely sure what he's doing, though, on the cast, but he's like a part of it somehow. So I would guess, yeah, probably script, yeah. Yeah. And when you see this, they made the Gundams look like Ava's, which is kind of fun. Like the way they move and everything is like,

exactly Evangelion. Pete, what are your thoughts here? Oh, even the main character named Shuji? Hmm, that sounds vaguely familiar to an Evangelion character. He's too fucking cool to be Shuji. Okay. I do see that Char is listed in the cast, so that's fun. He is, yes. So getting more Char would be really cool. I mean, I like these standalone characters

Gundams, I think more than like the actual like series itself. Like I was a big fan of Witch from Mercury. I haven't really seen Iron-Blooded Orphans, but I'm assuming I would like that. Did we watch Origins? What did we watch for... We watched Origins. We've watched Origins and we've watched... War in the Pocket? Okay. Okay, so I will have some...

reference to it. I think this looks dope. I mean, Evangelion is one of my favorite things of all time. So, I mean, I literally have an Ava tattooed on my arm. So like, I will be there, especially if it's Ava inspired and Anno's here. Like, I'm really looking forward to this one. Uh, was like, you saw it at like the theaters, the first three episodes, was there like, did it like look good? Did it sound good? Like it looks, it looks great. Yeah.

Like, the fight scenes were really good. The soundtrack was really good. It had a lot of, like... Okay, so I don't know how these compilation movies work. I haven't seen, like, a ton of them or anything, but...

So I don't know if they're just like putting the ED over scenes that it wouldn't be in like a, in a like episodic thing, but it would like cut into the ED or whatever. But they had some like modern, like J-pop stuff playing during like chase scenes or different like Metro area main character scenes. And it was pretty cool. It's an interesting, uh,

melding of the two Gundam worlds that you sort of get, right? Where you have all of these shoulders and stuff, and then you have Char and the Zabi family, and all of the Xenon versus the Earth Federation and stuff, and then you have these three kids who are accidentally getting embroiled in that. So it's a neat...

sort of juxtaposition there initially and I'm sure it all gets intertwined but I don't know I really liked it I'm a pretty big Gundam fan and I like Anno a lot so it'll be interesting to see what people think but I mean everyone who I know who's seen the movie has really liked it so yeah I mean I'm looking forward to it it doesn't say how long it is I'm I have a feeling it's only gonna be one core but you never know I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been said how long it is I would say one to

two core. You know, we've had three episodes and it's super possible for everything to wrap up in another nine. But I think it might be a little rushed if they do that. So just guessing off of the first three.

learn from the mistakes of g witch and make it longer which got two core at the very least you know what i mean like so i don't know if we've ever gotten a gundam that's like a main gundam that's just like yeah i'm just trying to think with like this because i know this is a completely different property but like with the pvr and sort of like how the characters look and everything it reminds me a lot of like daizanomon or gridman or something like that um

I don't know how, like, obviously they're two different, like, franchises. Don't get me wrong. Like, I understand that. But, like, it looks like that type of property. So, yeah. I would love to see, like, more than one core of this stuff and, like, really flesh it out. And the characters look really fun. And if Shard is being back, that's a huge plus. So this is going to be my must-watch.

I want to give a quick shout out, mine too, to the Google AI. When I Googled how many episodes are planned, just to see if it was planned, you know, anywhere, it tells me that it's planned for two episodes. There you go. So shut up. I've actually seen one more episode than is planned to exist, which is pretty cool. There you go. Look at that, Miles. You have seen more than what's coming out. That's insane. They'll be looking for you. Hopefully they mean two core, not two episodes.

I think it's going to, yeah. So looking at it, they're like, oh, it's the 16th installment of the Gundam franchise. It's a series, not like an OVA or anything. I suspect we get at least two questions.

This is like a super, super popular series. Like, Oh really? Yes. The being after the end is very popular and its fans are diehards. And everything that I saw from the preview, the PV as somebody coming into, I was like, Oh, that looks fine, bro. You would have thought that they like killed the author of this story, the way people were reacting to this online. Like,

So I think that could be an interesting angle. When I first looked at this, I just sort of thought this was generic, not isekai, but like fantasy anime with reincarnation elements number seven, you know? But people having really liking the source material is always a good sign. Them being so freaked out over one minute of preview is less of a good sign. They have the right.

Speaking of Cat, it's the same studio that did High Speed Atelier. Okay, but I just... An interview about cars where the cars do not touch the ground. Studio A-Cat. Speaking of Cat again. Yes. They also did stuff that isn't as bad as High Speed Atelier. Like what? Like... Look, that's a low bar. Uh...

I was like, I don't know if you saw their library. It's not good. I'm going to stick with it, though it's less meaningful than one might think. Hold on, real quick. Their highest rated show was Battle Game in 5 Seconds, a death battle game that has a 6.75. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. High Spooled Out of the Way is really bad. But also, okay, I talk about this, and studios can absolutely suck.

Um, but I also think that like part of the reason high speed out delay sucks is because the writing is awful. The story is terrible. Um,

Would it suck if this got something suboptimal for how good the story is? Yes. Will I still enjoy this if it is a good, well-written story that isn't literally on Microsoft PowerPoint? Yeah, is what I would say. I think we see plenty of times studios can rise to the occasion when they get a work that isn't high-speed atelier. I remember when Oshino Co. was coming out, we had this discussion about

the studio because they had done Shikimori and I was just like, look, Shikimori sucks. That's not a problem with the studio. It's a problem with whoever wrote Shikimori. High Speed Atole was ugly as sin, but honestly, I wouldn't have tried either. You know, and none of these, no offense to whoever wrote these, but like none of this stuff is giving me like

hey, someone really should have, you know, like, I don't know. You know, it's like none of this really seems like a shame. Like it didn't get a top tier adaptation. Yeah. So I guess we'll have to see. It does suck if it sucks, but I'll be in it.

If as long as it gets, it's a good story. You know what I mean? And then, yeah, I don't know. I'm trying to figure out the way to say it so that people might have a little bit of hope. ACAT, for sure. Yeah, there. My only issue with these type of shows is Mushoku Tensei ruined it for me. So as long as it's not that, I'm probably gonna enjoy it at least. So...

I have this at like a I'm like lukewarm on it it looks it looks fine the story itself looks fine I'm more hyped on it because of the reception of like my friends that have read this and they thoroughly enjoy it so

So more along the lines of hyped for that reason than more than what I actually saw on paper. How about you? Yeah, I agree with that. That's what has to be exciting, you telling me that this has held in such high esteem. I don't think you need to worry about a Mushoku Tensei thing. God, I hope not. Because it's set up that even if he was a shady character beforehand, it sort of seems set up in such a way that he would learn. Not in a Rudy.

It's like the anime version of how people say, like, no Diddy. Like, no Rudy. Yeah, like, this is, like, I don't know. Rudy took his new life and, like, doubled down on who he was. So I don't necessarily think this guy is going to do that. But we'll have to see. Yep, fingers crossed. All right, you want to take it away with the next one? Yeah, I will. Next up is not this.

Yeah, so next up, we have Witch Watch. This is Niko Wakasuki. She has finished her six years of witch training and is moving back to town by herself. As a new witch, she must choose a familiar to accompany her. However, unlike the other witches, she wishes to pick a non-animal familiar. There's no better companion than Morihito Moi Otagi, her childhood friend, who happens to be an ogre.

Morihito is vehemently opposed to being her servant, but he reluctantly accepts his fate after learning that a curse would revert him into a strange cow-tiger hybrid where he disobeyed a witch's order. We all stumble upon issues like this from time to time.

Every day. Yes. Due to Morihito's father leaving for a business trip and Nico's mother remaining behind in the witch's holy land, the two teens find themselves living together under the same roof.

Hooray! Um...

This seems like it could be fun. I don't... What do you think? I've read some of it. Yeah, I had to read some of it. Is it fun? Yeah, it's very fun. This author...

makes very fun properties uh he did astral lost in space and then he also did sket dance which is from like 2011 which was very fun as well which watch is a blast like i don't know if it's good i didn't read enough to like really develop any of the characters but the scenarios that they put themselves in is very fun it reminds me um a lot of like disastrous life of psyche k um

Okay. Where it's a little bit more hijinky and a little bit more having fun than actually developing like a real story. I'm about it. Yeah. No, it's, it's, it's a really fun property. I think it's like, cause this was like in Shonen Jump and I don't think it got like as much popularity because of like, it's like genre. It's mostly goofy. I feel like, and then it's like not super actiony. Like there is some, but it's more of like hijinks fights. I would say more or less like,

It's the same way, like how Sabrina, the teenage witch had fights, like not really, but it is technically there. Um, yeah, this witch watch is really fun. Uh, it is a split two core. So we'll get the first like 12 ish episodes of this season. And I think we're getting the other ones at the end of the year, but yeah, really fun show. Like, this is like, if you want an eight out of 10 comedy, I'm pretty sure which watches it. Okay. Color me excited for that. Um,

I like sort of bit comedy shows. Psychic K is amazing. So if we get some good comedy with a good reoccurring cast, I don't need any sort of depth or whatever as long as they make me chuckle. The magic that they use is like what they use it for is like

Not traditional. I think like he turned like she turns him into like a rug or something like that once because he's like misbehaving. And so then she like he like holds the table down while she's drinking tea. It's like that type of stuff where it's just like silly nonsense stuff. And I'm pretty sure there's an overlying story somewhere. I forgot. I read it like four and a half years ago.

And I only read like 30 some chapters, but I remember reading it and thinking like, oh, that was fun. Like every time I finished a chapter, like, oh, that was fun. So I'm going to have fun with it. I'm going to shoot for like an eight. If it's an eight, I'll get my, I'll get my money's worth. Yeah. Color me excited for it. I didn't really know what to expect from it.

But it does seem like it could be a fun, romantic subtext. Yeah, a little bit. Hijinxed sort of deal. Yeah, there'll be a couple the second to last chapter of the story. And then it's over. Yeah, as is tradition. Yes, as is tradition. Okay. You have any final thoughts on Witch Watch? No, that is it for me. Yeah, there's really not a whole lot to say other than it's fun. Yeah, which is... I think that's good though sometimes. No, 100%. I mean, like...

I can sometimes use things that are, it's fun. Yep. And that's, that's what it is. Agreed. And that's actually why I am reading this next one, because to me, I'm just hoping it's fun. And that is from old country bumpkin to master swordsman. I like the title a lot. I like that they used the word bumpkin. So that got me a little excited, but barrel, a self-proclaimed humbled old man is a sword instructor at his dojo in a rural backwater village.

In his younger years, he dreamed of glory as a master swordsman, but those days are long behind him. Out of the blue, he receives a visit from a famous former pupil who brings him a world-shattering news. He has been appointed as a special instructor for the Knights of the Liberation Order. who's attained the highest guild rank possible but why do they all want his tutelage as far as he is concerned they clearly don't need him anymore can barrel live up to his new position and will he ever get a moment's peace away from his adoring students so one i gotta figure out what that freaking anime is called but there was an anime like this where it was like you know he's like

Oh my God. Someone, someone in the comments, tell me what it is. Cause I can't remember. So essentially, so he was like one of the four nights of like the demon King. However, he wasn't a demon. He was actually like a human, but because he trained under blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He was actually like super strong. And then he retires from being a demon King night. And then like lives his life in the countryside. He ends up being like a wife and a kid. And like, I really enjoyed that show. Like, I like the idea of like, of like the retired old sword master sort of like,

trying to live life and then like something pops up and it's like, ah, shit, here we go again. Like God do this one more time. Don't I? So like the idea of that capital capsulates me more than what I actually think is on paper. I think that this show has like the, like the properties for me where I'm going to thoroughly enjoy it. And I'm going to give it like a nine or I'm going to drop it after three episodes. Like, I think it's literally one or the other. I don't think I'm really hoping crossing my fingers that this isn't just some like mid season,

looking whatever but i like how like gritty the main character looks like i like the fact that he has like gray hair like it's a i'm hoping the themes are a little bit more mature with him being the way that he is knowing anime probably not but you never know sometimes you get some goods so that's sort of like where i'm sitting at it this is more of like this is like
