Today, I wanted to start the podcast out by reading one of my reviews I have on apple podcast. So usually my reviews are five stars, of course, in all, all of them ever. I've got a bone to pick with everything. I recently got one that is a three star review and I thought I was very interesting and i'm going to go ahead and read IT for you.
IT says informative, but I like this podcast with its very informative backsides episode but almost nothing about legitimate concerns around privacy, potential spread of misinformation and h inaccurate results that tie people to scandals and criminal activity and no current method for correction or delicious the ChatGPT two leaders say that it's on the user to be wary of chat P T. Results, but we've seen over over again that the public is not good at wedding information and IT leads to suicide murder doxy actor. Yes, there's a lot of good, but there's also a lot of stuff to worry about.
Now of course, there's a couple good points in here. Definitely very important to be wary of ChatGPT and a lot of the downsides A I in general, not just all the upsides. That being said, um i'm not a hundred percent sure that I agree with everything in there.
The fact they say that um the the false information come out of chat G P is going to lead to suicide. The murder doxy exeter I think, of course, bad things come out of all technology, but like bad things are coming out of the internet and we're not going to go shut down the internet, um devin said. It's important to talk about the negatives as well as a positives and a pretty simple guys that's usual right focus just on my personality.
But that being said, i'm happy to talk about the negative. So on today's podcast by popular request, I guess, nearly popular request, minority squeaky eel request, I am going to talk about some of the negatives of A I what is happening right now um and perhaps some of the perceived negative A I. But with that being said, of course i'm going to talk about some of the potential opportunities come along that I know you're going to hate me because I always see a silver lining, a lot of sup, but there is a lot of things to be genuinely concerned about.
So this episode goes out to jackie two, one, two. This once for you. Um what I wanted to kick off first is there is a braking story that has been happening over the last week where essentially a Geoffrey hinton, who is kind of known as a i's godfather, he quit google because he is worried about the direction of A I and where it's going in the danger that is coming uh, with that.
So he's, as I said, seen by a lot of people, is kind of um the godfather, he seventy five years old. He just now announced his resignation from google and he told essentially the BBC recently in an article that some of the dangers of A I chat box were quite scary rate. He said I quit right now.
There's they're not more intelligent than assess far, I can tell, but I think they soon may be. Now of course, I think for everyone looking at the rate of advancement now, right, of course, is all the good articles are people are saying, see, mess up. This is not that good.
Just look at the rate of improvement. These things will be perfect. They will be smarter than as they will be much more advanced. We have the technology and all the information ever created, you know, now on the internet.
So I would say, um obviously these things will get very uh smart and this is very important to look at what the repercussions are, of course, what the positives and negatives of that are. And this is something that doctor hinton is very concerned about at the moment. So um he said that are essentially these neural networks as we as we know that this kind of set up similar to human brain in a way that they can learn in process information.
This is just traditional coded programs. When you write a softer program, you tell exactly what to do. These a eyes are different in the sense that you kind of build with, called a neural network, which is set up to, you know, similar a brain.
You feed the information, you tell you what answers are correct, and let IT learn to learn essentially. And IT comes up with things. That's where these can I get away from us is a sense that IT can learn things, maybe we never taught IT IT can learn things, maybe we haven't learned.
And people kind of worry that the advancements that is making code scale rapidly now um he said right now, what we're seen is things like GPT for a clips a person in the amount of general knowledge IT has and IT eclipses them by a very long way. In terms of reasoning, it's not as good but IT does already do simple reasoning at given the rate of progress we expect things to get Better quite fast. So we need to worry about that.
I, A hundred percent. And gree, I think a lot of people like I tried to stave off my AI anxiety. The ray, everything's advancing is crazy. That's probably why a lot of people, that's why you and a lot of people are listened to this podcast. Things are changing so rapidly.
You need a way to be able to stay up to date on at all and see what the advancements are because they're having massive implications for your industry, your jobs, your projects, businesses and everything you're working on. So IT is definitely concerned, and I think it's something that we will want to look at. He's worried about bad actors and um that essentially going to use A I for bad things is really, really hard to be fair to predict all of the negative ways um that A I can be used and set up adequate safeguards.
Same with the internet um when the internet was first launched, the very wild west, of course, horrific things have happened on the internet. Incredible things have happened because of the internet. And it's up to us to, as we you know, learn and grow with these tools to set safeguards.
I think it's really here's what i'm concerned about with A I and perhaps why I am not as hard as some people are on IT. The problem is a lot of people coming out right now calling for, like, hey, we need more regulation. We need to crack down on A I, we need to shut down this and that that way that can be used.
And if you can think of some, you know, bad ways that can be used and all for you know finding good ways to block those. But that being said, I just worry that like a lot of these people that are kind of elon um you know this guy coming out insane like, oh, it's really dangerous. I feel like they're all just kind of putting this disclaim resume because no one really knows everything bad IT can do.
IT is capable love. And when something bad happens, it's all gonna likely I told you so moment, all these people being like, you know, see, like I told you was terrible. You guys should have listen to me, but like at the end of the day, a lot of these people are not offering very realistic solutions.
Elon must six months pause on developing A I. I find completely unrealistic considering in china and russia are going to continue developing their A I um and I think I would rather that come out of um you know a country that i'm in personally, i'm sure russians listening to this would rather come to russia. So there you go.
Imagine if your government told you to pause A I developments for six months before I like IT either. And so um I really just think a lot of these people coming up with solutions are are not very realistic solutions. And I think where you know we should try our best absolute best to make this safe. But it's really hard to predict the the things that are going to happen. And there is going to really easy for a lot as people putting the criticism in right now, in six months, in a year when things happens, something bad d happens to say I told you so, but like they're not telling us exactly what's happening, exactly what to do about IT.
So I think, you know, the people that are developing are the heroes because there, you know, if it's a good intended person, it's more likely that that person is gonna discover a negative way can be used and stop IT perses if we just left IT up to bad actors, let's say, everyone, banda, I you know north korea definitely want to ban A I and you know we don't want them or any other bad actor state to be really advanced with A I. I would say, um so that kind of where I where I fall on that now that being said, there is another kind of, I guess, some people call alarming a piece of news on A I recently, which is that an A I researcher out of brazil recently said that A I could replace eighty percent of jobs in the next few years that is massive like E D percent of jobs in the next few years. Now I know this guy probably um wants to get some of the hype around A I.
So there is definitely an aspect of that to a but it's not far off. So this is come in from um ban gott he's uh lead A I researcher. He is the chief executive of singularity nets that's a research group he launch to create artificial general intelligence.
And SHE has seen a lot of the advancements that are coming down now in a lot of the implications, and I really don't think IT is far off. Eighty percent of of I have a hard time believing in that with blue color or jobs. Um but then again, you have tesla humanoid robots and other humans robots that if they could get the information on how to be a plum trial or anything else IT would make sense that a lot of those jobs that right now with you is safe.
Like i've talked to friends and like man, their advancements in an A I are happening so fast makes me just want to give up, because anything I try to develop, google or microsoft, is coming up with tools that do the same thing. I just want to go be a plumber. And that's like, that might work, that might buy you five years, but like in five years, there will be world about pommers that come to your house and can just do the job.
And if there half the Price, I promise a massive percentages regardless of their, you know, either ethical comes or implications are gonna go with the cheaper thing because you just need to get your toilet plugged and that's the one that's gonna come in three and behalf the Price. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens there. Um anyways, what then this A I developer from singularity net was saying, developer, the.
Executive the chief executive singularity net um he was at a web summit in rio disco and he was talking and he said someone asked him how far we from artificial intelligence with human cognitive abilities he said if we want machines to really be as smart as people interpret l and dealing with the unknown, then they need to be able to take big leaps beyond to the training and programing. And we're not there yet. But I think there's a reason I think there's reason to believe there were years rather than decades away from getting there that is so interesting.
Take a moment to think about that. He says. They need to get leaps and bounds beyond their training and programme.
This is what everyone is worried about. This is the concern. They're not doing what they are, what their train to programme to do. They're learning how to learn. They are getting further from us. And if they really can go leaves and be bounds beyond their training and programing on their own, then um that is essentially the A I getting away from us, becoming more smart than us and that's what people are really concerned about, you know, IT destroying us or whats some of the concerns around this would be another question someone asked IT is, what do you think of the debate around A I such as ChatGPT should to get paused? He said, I don't think we should pause IT because um it's like a dangerous superhuman A I these are very interesting systems that are not capable becoming human yet.
They can't invent new things outside the scope of a training data for now right? He says that's not very far off um he says of course can spread miss information um but he's thinks that kind of a weird that people are calling for them to be banned because he said an internet does exactly that he gives you one more information, you figure tips and IT spreads all source of misinformation. I think we should have a free society.
And just like the internet IT shouldn't be banned. Just like the internet shouldn't be, we shouldn't banned this. So as far as talking about the threat to people's jobs, he said you could probably obsolete maybe eighty percent of jobs and people, the the people do, without having an A G I.
So this is interesting. His company literally is designed to create artificial general intelligence, uh, A I, that is smart or smarter than a human. But he thinks, even without the A G I, that everyone is like working tours.
And his whole companies found IT on you could still absolutely eighty percent. So come up with an A G I. That's a scary number um he said.
And and what I think is a fair point to bring up though is you could obsol eighty percent of jobs. That doing mean you wouldn't create a whole host astronomical host of new jobs as all technological innovations. Oops, there you go.
You call me that the server lining there might be new jobs that come out. Of course, this is massive and really important point to take into consideration that eighty percent jobs could be, could be obsolete because of this. He said.
I don't think it's a threat. I think it's a benefit. People can find Better things to do with their life than working for living.
Pretty much every job involving paperwork should be made able. All man, sorry, i'm trying to be serious here because it's a serious topic. But every job involving paperwork, all man, taxes, that's just me.
A lot of just bureaucracy and paperwork stuff. If A I can do that, I would be thrilled. And people, whatever. Okay, that's that. In any case, what can robot to do for society today?
That will not um the but that will and what will they be able to do in the future of ages are cheap. Someone just asked him him that he said they can do a lot of good with A I um like Grace of robot nurse who showcased at web summer rio in the U. S.
A lot of elderly people are are sitting lonely and older folks homes. It's not they're not bad in terms of physical condition. You can have medical care of food and um the problem is they don't have emotional and social support.
So he says, if you inject humanoid robots into IT that can answer any questions into your stories anyways, I will get into 一个 idea。 I don't love that concept that we're just gonna give all of the old folks in nursing homes humanoid robots that to me is depressed and if you like, we should find Better solutions for helping them. But me up, maybe this is what IT is.
In any case, someone else asked him, what are you relations? Do we need to have A I um making a positive impact? He said, what you need a society to be developing these A, S, to do good, and the governance of the A I, to be somehow participatory, ory among the population.
All these things are technically possible. The problems that the companies funding most of the air research don't really care about doing good things. They care about maximize shareholder value.
Wow, that's obviously a direct stab at on microsoft and google, who are the big ones right now. Google really concerned about their company, their shareholder value planet and that they're just try to capture the most shareholder value possible. And microsoft, someone say, is using us to really try to spring board ahead of google on everything.
So it's going to be really interesting. I definitely think that there is a lot of concerns around the misinformation and the the downsides of A I I do think this give me a lot of opportunities. Sue me for being optimistic.
Um i'm a bullish on A I am pretty optimistic on the the um you know what's coming. And also that probably comes from a point for me of like I don't think there's any way you can stop IT. I don't think you can call us six months pause. I don't think anything like that will work. And so for me, it's just like love or hate IT.
Let's make a plan to move forward with that because it's coming and we just need to learn how to adapt and how to integrate and not be we're placed by what are the new jobs that will come up, what are the new things will need to be doing um and so I think it's a really important thing. I think it's the mindset if you want to be a winner in the next phase of technology is just the mindset you have to adapt, whether you like a or not. Um you just have to decide that you are going to move forward and try to find the benefits and the ways that you can use that to be a positive impact because there is no way you can stop IT.
It's the internet all over again. A massive innovation and disruption. So IT would be interesting to keep following are some of these um things that are happening. I will try to keep a baLanced approach showing showing prosing coins to what is coming out.
