Central China, including areas like Anhui, Jiangsu, and Hunan, experiences extreme cold during winter, with indoor temperatures often colder than outdoors due to the lack of centralized heating. People wear multiple layers of clothing, including cotton-padded jackets, to cope with the cold. Zhang Chun criticizes those from warmer regions who complain about the cold, as they don't understand the severity of winter in central China.
In Anhui, traditional snacks for the Spring Festival include roasted seeds and nuts like sunflower seeds, watermelon seeds, peanuts, and roasted rice. Other unique items include roasted sweet potato slices and fried rice, which are often served in a snack platter for guests. These snacks are often homemade, with families using special methods like roasting with sand to ensure even heating.
Zhang Chun finds celebrating the Spring Festival in Xiamen much more comfortable due to the milder climate. She enjoys the warm weather, often wearing short sleeves during the festival. In contrast, her hometown in Anhui is extremely cold during winter, making Xiamen a more pleasant place to spend the holiday. She also appreciates the relaxed atmosphere in Xiamen, where the Spring Festival is less emphasized compared to the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Zhang Chun dislikes traveling during the Spring Festival, as she prefers staying in Xiamen, which feels like a year-round resort to her. She finds the crowded tourist destinations unappealing and enjoys the comfort of her home, where she can relax and enjoy the holiday without the stress of travel. She once visited Huangshan but chose to stay in a hotel rather than explore the mountain, highlighting her preference for a relaxed holiday experience.
Zhang Chun values a minimalist lifestyle and prefers to control the amount of work she takes on. She sets a limit on her workload and income, choosing to reduce her working hours rather than expand her business. This approach allows her to maintain a balanced life, focusing on quality over quantity and avoiding the pressures of scaling up, which she believes would compromise her preferred way of living.
