Usually we bring us some stuff across the league and everything, but one of the purposes we decided to come up with the show and bring IT all of you was to give you a glimpse into the lives of N F, O. Players and and what goes on, especially during a season.
Yeah and right now there's one topic on the forefront of everybody's mind seemed right to kind of designate an entire episode of what's happening as a result of last night incident at the bills bengals game involving the mar hamlet. So um IT is tuesday at five fifteen on the dot uh P M eastern time. And I guess we're going to offer kind of our thoughts on last night incident, everything evolved with IT and how that is affecting the rest of the nfl. I don't even know if we want to call on an episode. This is kind of a reaction video that we thought we bring to you.
So definitely does not feel right to to comment on anything else that happened throughout this week or anything that's onna happen next week. Right now a lot of focus suggest, I will know, energy is all devoted towards what the bar in the buffalo bills and the N. F. S. Going through with what happens last night.
So yeah need this to say what we going to do anyways. Our thoughts and prayers are with obviously to marhala in his entire family and both the bills and bengals organization. So I guess let's talk right away monday night halfway through the first quarter, just about actually five fifty eight remaining exactly um this takes place. What what were your initial thoughts first? Were you watching the game?
And dad dad and tony, we are watching the game and decided we're going to go to restaurant and wash the remaining of IT. So on the way to the restaurant was when um we found out about the incident, immediately turned down the game, unlike my phone, just to hear what was going on as I was driving. And you want to talk about terrifying, you see all the videos of the reactions of guys on the field um and immediately you think of putting yourself in in their shoes um in the mars family shoes, the things that they are going through emotionally IT was demoralizing and IT was it's scary. It's scary to see anybody go through that, let alone somebody let's doing the same thing that you are that is playing football, you know a game. But we're watching IT and hearing hearing the commentators be very unsure initially um about what was going on um and then hearing how serious of a incident IT was who was like I said was terrifying and immediately I think if I would have seen the reactions of player's live on the field I would have probably lost IT that in terms of my emotions um for him in his family um but IT was a obvious ly nothing that was taken easy by anybody.
Yeah we we were not watching the game in the calls household and I was just sit on the couch. I don't remember I was watching me with you um because this kind of took center stage the one we find out about IT and careful another wife from another player on the eagles, texter and astra shoes watching the game and whether shoes witnessing what was taking place and that's when we kind of start to following IT you know I watched the replace of the incident um you turn the channel to the game and you're watching everything taken place in you.
I think you have the video when I first watched the video I was in this before we had turned the TV on just the pure replay of IT IT was very um you didn't look crazy until you know the mark fell down afterwards ah and look very add like you know what you can cause what's going on and then when you turn the TV on and you had the game there, they really became evident that IT was something very serious when you start to seeing the reaction of the teammates, the players on the field you know, growth men, protect ers, the teams were across the field with each other. You know, IT became something much bigger than a game of football at that point. And that's when you knew something very serious was happening down on the field.
It's hard day even described. Know the feeling on the field. You I can't imagine what those guys are going through the level of uncertainty you're seeing somebody performed cpr to a timid like, you know, I think multiple players talked about that being a point of shocked to them because, you know we've seen you guys lying unconscious on the field.
We've seen guys with neck injuries, but aren't too many times you've en cpr administration that when you know it's certain a this is some way different. I don't know what's going on right now, but this is not happen. Uh, this is not Normal.
This isn't something that you see in a football eld so um yeah that's what I think all those guys really started realized this is some way different that this is that all similar. But very coincidentally, we had A T mate with the eagles this week. Go down, just sweat down with A A neck injury.
Yeah, and I never been on the sideline. You know, he missed us up. I was remember taking a knee and just looking and waiting for his legs to move, waiting for his hands to move.
There are few things that have brought me greater joy than seeing just what today this morning and known that he's going to be alright knowing that he's going to be good. He's not devastated from some like injury that's going to affect him for the rest of his life. Um in the moment we got to know that on the field so we were able to get back out there and go about playing football even though IT probably still affected us. So for these guys not to have that you know I mean, to really not .
know what .
was going on yeah the student did not have the clarity of what's going to be a the future for the more I can't imagine what that feels like for these guys on the field for his his parents you know IT clearly has has gripped .
the entire and faith community yeah that much you can really say.
what did you think of when IT first happened? I guess what was .
your immediate thoughts? Media thoughts are you goes at least for me is, you know, his family, what his families going through. I'm terrified to ever be laying on the field and having you are mom or dad, you know, in question of everything is going on, you know, as probably the sickest feeling you can have as a player in my mind. That's why I always, if even if i'm banged up, if I can get up and off their field and show that you know any anything you know, i'd rather do that than to be laid on the turf that doesn't have a sound, right? I don't even know.
No, I mean what I mean, unfortunately 有 football story of vient supported in in injuries like that can happen。 I mean, i'd never forget and I feel shame that I don't remember the game and pressure was the tendency titans game. When you add the concussion and we're lying down on the field.
even then, I try to get up as fast as possible as the wrong thing to do.
Exactly that made IT even more scary. Family member, man, I can't tell IT there's absolutely nothing crazier than witnessing somebody you love and not knowing whether they are going to be OK. It's absolutely the the worst feeling in the world. That's why I don't remember who guys are playing in half the time because immediately everybody you forgot about that I forgot about IT i'm just thinking about IT was and i'm trying to text guys you are right um I mean, I was insane immediately whatever something like that happens, you you think about the family members and the friends and the teammates and seeing all .
the guy's reaction.
people closest yeah the people that know what's going on.
how how are they reacting? We play this game to give those people specifically happiness, you know, yes, and to strike fear in their minds, to strike worry that I IT man, and that's that's unfortunate. It's a scary feeling.
Even try and put yourself in issues or their shoes. Yeah, yeah. Just a lot of love for for his family and friends and everyone close to him. Yeah, it's terrible.
So guys, i've worked today. You guys had meetings. How how do the kinds city chiefs? How was the reaction in the building .
today for you guess? Yeah, the first thing we had was a team meeting coach. We brought up our head athletic trainer who's well respected around the league and has a very clear understanding. A walk goes on dr ing N A failed game day in terms of what's on the sideline at every single nfl game because of the possibility of something like this happening in terms of someone getting injured.
And there's anywhere from thirty five to forty medical professionals that have their eyes on the game at all time that are working specifically for situations like this or if someone were to get injured on the field anyway yeah and it's IT was IT was a little reassurance to hear you know that you know how safe of an environment that is and that because of that um the marr has a chance to be alright. But at the same time, it's um it's still still very I don't know there's there's not much I can really i'm i'm not good at describing these feelings, man. This is it's a tough one to even go through. Yeah I mean.
sir, it's never going to cardioscopes ad. A bad situation, but the nfl field, with how many medical professionals are on the field, ambuLances are nearby. They have the oh my god, everyday they're called um yeah ae d basically shocked your heartbeat beating. All these things are there and on scene.
So one of the safest places that that can happen outside of being physically in a hospital, you know there is everything in place possible to try and assist as as as quickly, efficiently um as human beings have the technology to do pretty much. And you know hopefully that was enough. You know, we didn't have meetings today.
We were back in the building for treatment or people that want to go in to kind of get a jump start on the week. And IT was all anybody was talking about. I'm sure we'll have a meeting on the tomorrow as a team. People been texting nonstop. Coaches is asking how you feel what what's going on if you reach that anybody um you know pretty much the only person that I really know that world to reach out in the bill's organza one of the coaches to reach out to him today. But I think everybody's processing IT differently.
One of the crazy things about like an injury on a sporting field is your sports is like expressed the place you go to kind of get away from problems supposed to be an area of a different domain, kind of know whatever anything's going on outside your life. It's it's one of the things that you can go to that's always there to, man, just get away from whatever else is going on. Know whenever i've had problems outside of football, you know, family members, uh, friends, uh, whatever, IT is football like its own area, that you can just go and play a game.
You know, that's what makes this incident particularly troublesom, is that this is how all of us get away from these types of things that are going on that you, you, you, you want to step away and just get lost in the game, get lost in, you know, having a good time with your teammates, you know, to see this happen on a field print television around a lot of our brothers in the nfl. You is shocking. And it's certainly know everybody going to process is differently.
And you know for me, you know, I wanted to building today, try to get a fresh start on this week opponent. But man is still it's it's all around. It's it's IT is being talked about all over place. I don't think i've ever heard the word commercial cordus used um as much as uh, I have the last twenty four hours.
I hope I never have to this much ever again. Yes yeah this is I mean that say i'm as a terrifying a thing to even know is possible.
You remember the cross player years ago, unfortunately being struck in. You know it's hard stopping. Remember Chris pronger having commercial cordus um from a slap shot, he was able to make a full recovery.
But yeah, I mean, you see the hit to the chest. You see a lot of the signs, you'll find out more as things progress. But you know it's still uh, so fresh i'll be insure to see what our team meeting is like tomorrow.
We know one thing and that is that everyone everyone's very sensitive of the subject. Everyone wants to support um demar, his family as much as possible. And I reach N F L.
Community has been unbelieved is a toy dry foundation is over forming others raised pretty amazing support from the nfl. You've seen multiple uh uh you know people reach out. I thought my time is video in particular with outstanding I mean, shocker that coach thlen hits the nail on the head again and speaks to the mar as a human being, as a fellow pittsburger, as a guy who he was able to watch mature, grow and to realize his dream and how much that affecting him and yeah I it's truly uh, been incredible seeing the amount of a people that have been able to come together off .
of this tragedy yeah and the I would say. Heads off to the Taylor and show, with demand being the first ones to realize the entirety of the situation.
And that even how much this game means to a lot of what happens in the afc, they realized that this game is is exactly that and IT doesn't IT doesn't hold any place in in this time yeah taking their teams off the field, realizing that until we find out that he's OK this game doesn't mean a damn and it's and that's and that's what I fat like. I couldn't imagine having to go back out there and play and trying to play this a game after something like that, that I couldn't. I don't think I could. So I just want to say I appreciate the both teams take coaches being able to realize the circumstances.
sure. I mean, I think you we've all played games when guys have had traumatic injuries or no terrible things happen. But this is different. There is some level of there is like no finale to IT. When a guy is going to cushion, is motionless, you find out what's going on, where's is going to be OK you even when a guy has like a neck issue and has to be taken off in a car or like an ambuLance, you know right away what's going on. And again, I think playing the game allows you to kind of get away from what just happened.
But this one I was really evident with not just the circumstances involving to marr and not knowing what was going to happen, but also just I mean, the players, you could tell their faces on the field that they had no business going back out there. The the level of destroy the level of um you, the amount of guys that we're emotionally uh just completely detached was evident on the T V. And you know it's good on zack and Shawn for both uh being able to realize you a none of these guys are in the heads space to come out here in and do this right now.
Let's let's all step away in this and i'm sure there are a lot more people involved in just you know that shown but um IT definitely appears that those two guys in particular um you know knew that this was not something that was going to be able to take place. Yeah, how do you get ready to play? V, K, teen.
i'm not a lie. I don't, I don't see. Yeah, I don't want to get to I today.
I was was a very, I want to say, awkward day, but I definitely started like that. Sure, awkward might not be the right word. IT was a different day that that presented a lot, a lot of different emotion. IT wasn't your typical wednesday install heard you know, yet based install day. IT was who is just a lot of unfortunate, sad emotion going around and I feel like what happened really sober everybody up into realizing yet again just how how serious um of a game IT is .
that we play. I guess you know for week teen you for me, I think just getting back in the build and go back to play in football. You know, I kind of talk to us a bit earlier, but that's one of the ways I process, you know, things going on in my life, and it's my press.
I mean, I know everybodys that could be this way, but for me, a way to kind of you know get clarity to to move forward is to do something that i've done a whole life and to do something that I love, uh, with a lot of people that I love. And your the nfl is an incredible community and we found that out within the last twenty four hours. We found that out last night with the support that all the fans and in media and everybody had for the bills and bangs players, not just a markel land and his family, but for the entire situation going on.
Uh, we found that out over the last twenty four hours with the a support everyone's good. I mean, former teammates that have reached out to me ask, you know, hom doing who i've reached out to know the game has been brought back to, uh, what IT is. The nfl has been brought back to what IT is.
And that is something that unites a large amount of people that a lot of people have in common. And you know, getting back out there and back with my teammates is, for me, you know, one of the greatest joys that I get the particular I think that that's how I am getting ready for for next week. Um we all be following you know the um the situation with the mar and how IT progresses um but man its IT has been um encouraging.
I don't know it's been encouraging to see the humanity and everybody regarding this entire incident. This is such a privilege to to be in this this league um and to have the amount support that we have from all of these fans. I mean to he was uh charity, the chase and em's foundation toy drive, as at the time of this is already a four million dollars and that's all pretty much happen within the .
last twenty four hours you were mentioning ing getting back out there and playing and a scary as IT as of an incident that IT is the honor that you can have to go out there and play for him. Play for, you know, the people that are dealing with what they're dealing with to give them trying to give them excitement, trying to give them something to get away from what's going on in their daily lives.
The honor that I get from that is it's Prices mean you can put IT a dollar amount on that. You can put IT a ticket on that. Um I willingly will go out there and then honor just like I honor brian chase er just like I honored alex Smith yes guys that I have a tremendous amount of respect .
for absolutely also try yeah so come .
in together is is the best way that I think we all can deal with IT and that's what we're doing. And yeah as for week teen, whatever ends up happening, the whatever the nfl ends up deciding, just, uh, just know if we have going back out there to play. I'm sure every stadium will have two teams playing their tail off for the more yeah the entire league right .
now is is behind the marr his family yeah I don't know, I can't say any Better than interested saw ma window and you know, again, our thoughts and prayers are with to mars entire family yeah, I think that wraps IT up for this week. You know, felt this was really the only news we wanted to really touch on.
It's yeah the only thing that felt like I was right to really talk about because it's pretty much the maintain that on all of our minds as nfl players will be back next week with you hopefully a more Normal episode and hopefully good news great. Yeah from the mr. And obviously, again, nothing but love and support to him in his family and both the bills and bangles organizations .
to everybody that's that's dealing with this a on their own man. Yeah it's it's not fun. And I would appreciate everything that's reached out us is definitely it's been helpful and it's it's definitely yeah puts .
things in perspective. See guys next week, see you guys follow .
