Publisher's Summary: Much has been written on the last words of Jesus, the traditional phrases taken from Scripture that depict the final moments of Jesus's life as he dies on the cross. In this new take on the last words, author Dan Horan brings a fresh perspective to this time-honored meditation as he challenges readers to look at their lives through the lens of Jesus s suffering and death. Yet interlaced with suffering, the focus throughout is on the immense love of God for human beings, shown in the gift of Jesus, God made flesh. In his preface, Horan writes: In a world that remains irrevocably shaped by the suffering of the human condition, the misunderstanding between groups and cultures symbolized by the horrific events of September 11, we need to hear Christ's words anew. He gives us a different look into these words by drawing on works by other noted scholars and spiritual writers, then fashioning a view of these phrases that s contemporary and thought-provoking. An ideal Lenten companion, especially during Holy Week, The Last Words of Jesus will also serve as a useful meditation throughout the year on the deep love Jesus bore for us in taking on the human condition.

Members Reviews: Simple and beautiful, relevant and challenging for any time during the liturgical year The back cover of the book showcases Rohrâs description of the book as âsimple and beautiful.â This captures perfectly the meditation that Horan offers here. His lucid and vivid prose presents readers with the challenge of Christian life: to live a life of love that demands courageous action and vulnerability. The book is a contribution to the Good Friday practice of preaching on the seven last words of Jesus, but the reflections here get at the heart of all Christian life, making it a relevant and challenging read for any time during the liturgical year. Iâll be revisiting it during and beyond the Lenten season. Although I read the text individually, at many times while reading I was eager to discuss the content with others. It think this would be a great text to read with a friend or small group.

Father Horan has the the most beautiful gift of bringing the last words of Jesus to ... Father Horan has the the most beautiful gift of bringing the last words of Jesus to life for us in this day that we are all living in. He gives you background information and encourages you to step back in time ,to put yourself at the foot of the cross and hear the words as if they were being spoken to you. Once you have spent time dwelling on them, your assignment becomes to bring them in to moderan day life. How can we take these words and put them into action? How can we take these words and have them become a part of us?

inspirational One of the most moving and insightful books it have ever used for Lent. I began and completed the last word from the Cross. This morning I was drawn to the reflections linking the beginning of Luke's Gospel to the SEVEN LATST WORDS. Deeply insightful. For the remainder of Holy Week, I plan to return to each word from the Cross and reflect on the Passion ...the coin with love and suffering as the two sides. I shall always remember this image!

The Best! An Excellent Book. Appropriate for people of all faiths.

Five Stars There is nothing in this book that doesn't bring you closer to Christ.
