Publisher's Summary: Stephen LaPointe believed in Jesus. For him, the Bible was the only sufficient, firm foundation for his life. He wanted to obey God in all things, and had given up a career to become an ordained minister. He loved to preach the Word and knew that one day he would stand before God, accountable for everything he preached. But there was one problem: How could he be certain that what he was preaching was true? Sara LaPointe never wanted this role, but she loved Stephen. So, through his encouragement and tutelage, she had become both an enthusiastic Evangelical and an effective pastor's wife at least in the eyes of the congregation. But would the gnawing guilt of a past mistake a mistake she would never reveal to her husband ever let her go? And then there was Walter. He, too, believed in Jesus. He, too, loved the Bible and vowed to do whatever God called him to do. But what if this was the unthinkable?
Members Reviews: Marvelous story. Inspiring. Worth listening to This is a marvelous story, a fictional novel based to some extent on reality, of the agonizing journey of a conversion. Both as a book to read and as an audiobook it grips one's attention and one's interest.
insightfulness shared This book helped me gain greater appreciation for Catholic faith and helped me gain greater understanding, compassion and patience for my protestant in-laws.
Excellent Fictitious Story Based on Reality Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? Yes, not only is the plot of the story engaging but the theological issues it addresses and the emotion attached make this an informative and genuine story, good for Catholic or non-Catholic. What other book might you compare How Firm a Foundation to, and why? This is almost like a Scott Hahn theology book put into story form! Easy to understand, and the theology ingrained in the story does not detract or 'bog-down' the story - it only enhances the plot and makes it hit home harder. What does Kevin O' Brien bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book? He does a good job narrating lots of different characters and he did not distract me from the story...I didn't really even notice him (this, in my mind, is a sign of a good narrator). Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? I am not a very emotional reader...but at times I smiled, and felt the emotion of the characters...and one time even let out an unexpected squeal of excitement. Any additional comments? Looking forward to listening to the sequel 'Pillar and Bulwark'.
