Publisher's Summary: Edwards wrestled expertly with similar questions arising from frontier revivalism. Now McDermott, not only a leading Edwards scholar but also a master teacher, makes Edward's insights accessible and practical for today's Christians. Seeing God offers a clarifying glimpse at the signs of genuine Christianity - yesterday, today and for the ages.
Members Reviews: Making Jonathan Edwards accessible to modern-day readers I found this book a most helpful update of Jonathan Edwards' "Religious Affections". Today's Christians have much to gain from Edwards' classic work on true spirituality, but few are inclined wade into his thick eighteenth-century English prose. McDermott does us a tremendous favour by revisiting and contemporising Jonathan Edwards. The book opens with a discussion of the confusion today over true vs. false spirituality. It then introduces the notion of religious affections - strong inclinations of the soul that are manifested in thinking, feeling and acting - which are, for Edwards, the heart of true spirituality. The book devotes most of its attention to the markers of true Christian affections, beginning with the unreliable markers, and then moving on the twelve reliable signs:
Clear Summary of Edwards Awesome and clear summary of Jonathan Edwards' "Religious Affections." You can totally read this with junior high or high school kids. McDermott gives great illustrations. This is a hidden gem, and I will be using it for discipleship in the future. This not only makes the truth clear, but it helps make the truth real.
Understanding Spiritual Discernment In excellent condition. I love the content of the book. We live in an age where spiritual discernment among those who call themselves Christians is sorley lacking. This book allows you to see why that is so and how God's word defines discernment.
