The British Parliament has voted to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales. Abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, with approval from two doctors, has been legal since the 1960s. Ending a pregnancy after 24 weeks has a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Lawmakers have voted by 379 to 137 votes to stop prosecutions for ending pregnancies in all circumstances. Austria's government has said it plans to tighten gun control rules after the country's worst school shooting ever took place earlier this month.

The new rules will raise the minimum age for a gun permit from 21 years old to 25, increase psychological test requirements and lengthen the amount of time it takes to acquire a gun.

In Portugal, the minority centre-right government took power yesterday. The opposition Communist Party had called for the new government's programme to be rejected, but the motion was dismissed. Africa

In Kenya, a police officer has been arrested after a civilian was shot during protests on Tuesday. Protesters were demonstrating against the death of a blogger in police custody. The man who was shot is alive but in intensive care in hospital, according to reports.

Nigeria's Foreign Minister Yusuf Togar has said that West African nations are ready to do deals with the United States. However, possible travel bans by United States President Donald Trump could compromise trade relations. He said, we possess critical minerals and even rare earths.

We would like to do deals with the US, but visa restrictions are non-tariff barriers to deals. Asia In Thailand, the Bumjaitai Party withdrew from government yesterday. The party held 69 seats in the ruling coalition.

It said it left the coalition because of a leaked phone call between Prime Minister Pei Tongtan Shinawatra and Cambodia's former premier Hun Sen, which they said cost Thailand its integrity, honour to the people and the army.

In Bali, flights have been cancelled after Mount Lewatobi Laki Laki erupted on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At least 26 flights were cancelled, according to Indonesia's transportation ministry. The volcano spewed ash 11 kilometres high, causing Indonesia's volcanology agency to raise the alert to its highest level.
