Brazilian influencer Kat Torres rose to fame on social media with self-help videos and a wellness subscription service. She also alleged that she had spiritual powers and connected with her followers on a deeper level. In 2004 she became the focus of an FBI investigation, which led to a conviction in Brazil for human trafficking and slavery and sentenced to eight years in prison. She has appealed the conviction and maintains her innocence, claiming that the testimonies against her were fabricated.
