it's lee from the koto with new IP top, we spend a lot of time talking about some of the most important people in taking business about what they're putting resources to and why they think it's so critical for the future. That's why we're doing this special series diving into some of the most unique ways companies are spending money today.
For instance, what does that mean to start buying and using A I at work? How much is that costing companies? What part are they buying? And most importantly, what are they doing with the and of course, podcasts? Yes, the thing you're listening to you right now, well, it's increasingly being produced directly by companies like venture capital firms, investment funds and a new crop of creators who one day want to be investors themselves.
And what is actually going on with these acquisitions this year, especially in A I space, why are so many big players in deciding not to acquire and instead license can hire away co founders? The answer, IT turns out, is a lot more complicated than that seems. You'll hear all that and more this month from decoder with the latex presented by strike. You can listen to the coder wherever you get your podcast.
No, what's up away form markets here? Obviously not in the Normal podcast studio yet anyway, for this little remote intro. So I am in california right now, Sandy ago for an auto enrico tournament nationals, actually.
So that's why I am at a time a little bit early. So what you're about to watch is a podcast recorded on tuesday instead of the Normal wednesday. And what that means is we recorded that right before the news dropped of the cyber truck delivery event officially happening, uh, and it's going to be november thirty in awesome texas, Austin, I think.
yeah. So what you're going to see is people who don't know that's about to get announced, but I just want to pop in remotely and say told you so now there are still some questions we don't know. Number one, exactly how many deliveries there will be.
There are going to do some sort of event, I imagine, kind of like them out of the reef ent. But IT is not going to be twenty five is going to satisfy our bet of twenty five before the end year, I think so, but we don't know. And then the other is anger thing of does this count as a delivery if you have to go to pick IT up? Is IT a pick up or a delivery? I mean, to pick up.
But is that a pick up? Is that a pick up? Pick up. Sorry to that job.
Anyway, we're going to go to finish this torment of hopefully over the next couple of days. So wish us look pride in new york if you want to follow us. U S, A, U.
nationals. But just, I wanted to jump in, look quick at the top and say, yes, sounds about right. Anyway.
take IT way.
What is that? People of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the way from podcast where your host, i'm markiss anger and David, we've got some new tech. We ve also got new stories, new feature, youtube updates and teachers come in your ways that are watching on youtube some stuff showing up here but also new apple pencil, new one plus open, that's the name of the phone and some new meta stuff that we all actually kind of like, yeah which cool feels wrong? Don't even if it's from companies, we've one horrible thing um but first so want to explain this analog and sixty four to me because it's very helped people have been talking about at the studio and I don't know why it's so hyped so someone please explain what .
this is back when we had childhoods.
have you heard of nostalgia?
I'm aware .
that cells, very well.
he does. Oh, so this is so analog made the pocket, which was like a game boy, yeah. Like modern, yes, my best.
much bigger, brighter screen. You could play games off of a my grasty .
cards so you could play roms on IT.
IT was like, put an old carriage in anything and works. That's cool. Yeah yeah so is this like A N sixty four?
But yeah so what ironic about this? Um even intendo is bad, emulating nintendo to sixty four games because very difficult to emulate them. But there's this technological called FPGA that's been getting very popular recently that allows you to directly like emulate IT, like it's basically emulating the hardware instead of just emulating IT in the code.
And so that's what in along is doing. So people have had trouble making him sixty four emulators for like a while or getting them to run at a good framing rate without any glitches because even intendo on the intendo switch has if you have switch. You can plan ten to sixty four games, but a lot of them like aren't really up to enough with the original um yeah analog is now making a modernized and sixty four.
It's never announced much as they just said. It's a sixty four. It's coming on twenty, twenty four and IT will have four care resolution, which feels kind of wild because if it's just the same, if I just like wave on for mario sixty four just in four days, just like but it's still just blocks, blocks and .
bigger and retracing. They say anything now there's really .
even a picture just like enough of the side of the console to know what IT is um but the driver played in sixty four.
I only i've ever, even a crane of time known anyone the greatest game of all time. No I i've never I only i've played in six yeah unless we did one for retro ticket, i'm forgetting I don't think i've ever even had not really enough to be on a retro get think.
And I hope it's not .
it's per reo, but it's not like the original game council, genesis. And that was in genesis in any s around the same generation, right? I know is genesis run in sixty four? I thought maybe a little I think it's .
a little before i'm trying to imagine i'm so in my yeah someone is going I remember playing the genesis at my cousins but I believe I was pretty old that that was older at that point and then I remember .
a friend getting .
them sixty four like I think is ninety six one apa? Yes that's more any s territory okay um but the ten to sixty four was the first sixty four year bit console which allowed for three years and .
kind stuff that's what I do .
remember from retrospect. But a ton of insanely red legendary games came out super mario sixty four legendary super smash her is the first one .
ever legendary for .
in jim what day is all the occurring of time? Imagers mask, considered the best of the games of all time. But I. Hole in my head and .
I get to know that. Have you ever seen him?
No, i've definitely never .
seen earth.
And was the t four was how you think?
How looks .
like much so warm in a muscle suit?
That's right. funny. Because I think I think may have been up before and still I feel .
like you might be right.
I don't even think this is what i'm thinking of.
You remember .
battle s what I know you remember there was like this clay fighter game on and sixty four that was like, horrible, yeah, is called clay fighters, sixty three and a third. And there was the most unhinged game. I know I had a throm in, okay, yeah.
that's exactly what is. A spare room .
is a fighting. Why is this came? forty?
forty?
yeah. Well, so OK, yeah. Honestly.
my sister and I had this N H L hockey game that you could play hockey, but you could also beat .
each other up and .
hits ah I think he was called like N H L sixty four.
like forty five percent .
of hockey.
Take punch you can in the actually hockey game and enough IT would set you into the arena where .
IT was just a fighting game. And then I would go back funy just a boxing game inside of the hockey. That's pretty ick. And how .
much 什么 值得 帕克?
The market is two hundred, yet two hundred and fifty dollars.
And six, four .
going .
to be .
is not .
going three. What the controller looks like.
markets IT is like an iconic controller.
Now can you try and draw for me? It's a very wild controller. So I would like to an audio listeners. We will describe what he is drawing here, but IT is not your average controller. Um i'm .
sure you've .
seen IT and when you see .
IT is the .
one that kind of like .
like I feel like you are going .
kind to keep up the button on may.
Be one of these maybe .
other again.
you barely .
see anything you can looks like a switch .
pro controller IT would fit on that side where .
the stick was not on this. Yes, he that looks my the second genesis controllers like that .
I truly .
have know, the same genesis console is shape like that.
What I do.
one where one hand was gg than one.
right?
IT, one more handle. yeah. Can you describe this now from what you .
think IT looks like? Oh, three handles. Yeah.
because we have three hands on, we say so I want .
to other is a pretty .
infamous controller because I can see why it's kind .
of what yeah I.
You know, IT with grip, the one so you can make .
if your game requires the dept, or whatever. The dress of the dept.
Was usually like easier like item. So like that, like you could go off the .
controller and there was A Z button on the back that you could hit with all.
there's a trigger underneath.
Are we after rails? Is this? No, no. Now we get to .
put the controller in the and get the greatest T, R possible.
yeah. Anyway, um yeah. So lda.
speaking of the soldier, they are also releasing another analog pocket .
and all the clear colors they leased not done that already. That's what to every game boys to be the .
person took forever because did extremely limited quantities. And they put like a day and time that I would happen, and then within like two minutes, that was all out.
I know that .
the .
company, but like make more you know that things yeah.
part of the fun is not being able to get. They have been a lot of limited ones like they did like this glow in the dark version of the analog talk that's like a gray. But IT grows Green .
in the dark. Yeah, I don't know. Like purple to the purple ural.
Ural .
is so .
good.
There's a gray and blue and and they had a solid purple guys. Sorry, sorry.
right?
I'm sure there are people ring with right now.
Yes, this is a common apple pencil, and this is new tech here. So we ve got to talk about what's brand new. U. S, B, C. port.
New is the only new thing on this pencil. No, no pressure sensitivity. new.
No pressure sensitivity is new, brand new. Yeah and gravity there.
This is more, baby.
not you because the first tended engravings that's true. Yeah, they made this feature o to catch everybody of, uh, apple. Everyone thought that this week end, by the way, we are according this on tuesday and on wednesday because markets is out wednesday, friday.
So IT could be that apple announced a new ipad. And if he does, I am sorry. No, no, no, no. If market is flying back and we're rerecording this episode.
if that happens, i'll record a segment remotely apologizing for not knowing.
Okay.
i'm so on that. But what we do have .
today on tuesday, yeah so so apple sometimes does this thing we're like for three days in a row, we'll just to make a newser room announcement, announce a new product. In previous years, it's been like a new baseline ipad or maybe a new mac pro or something, maybe not the maco. I don't today, they just announced a new apple pencil.
It's the stuff that doesn't deserve its own event. Yeah so it's A U S, B, C. Apple pencil. It's basically the new baseline and it's the making obvious that they are transitioning everything to us. C, because right now, the baseline apple pencil is lightning and only one ipad has lightning anymore. With me to believe that they are, you really going to announce a new baseline ipad that contextual.
that is a perfect prediction that probably will happen, but we don't know. Yes, yeah yeah.
Do one of you want to read the spectre and the comparative analysis? First is the other apple pencil OK.
It's like basically they took the newest second gen apple pencil and then just took some stuff out of IT yeah and gave you a lower Price of seven, nine dollars. So it's got U S B type c and IT charges by U S B type c, which you might be thinking way to second the other one. The like new apple pencil we've all had for a while charges via magnet on the side of the ipad.
This one still attaches with a magnet, but doesn't charge that way or pay that way. You need a USB c cable. So that's one thing they took out. Uh, pressure sensitive v isn't anything they took out.
Why would for some reason, there are people out there who are buying a seventy nine dollars stylist for their ipad but don't care about presentiment ity I guess apples on the math maybe they believe that that I don't know yeah um is also no longer supports double tap to change tools just a weird art I swear this artificial gating is like my new biggest pet tev in tech. They might have taken parts out of pencil. And the last thing took out was in great, tell me, facial gating. It's the same shape, is the same man. It's the same time as well.
They can it's the supply chain, right? They're leaning out the supply chain which saves on money. And then you can targe us.
I wonder if using the same exact supply chain over a large of volume, more probably is, but the lead time is higher over a large volume, right? Maybe, maybe large IT .
feels to me .
like like they're just gonna confuse a bunch of parents during the .
speaking up. In terms of confusing, which is helping us, the naming is very confusing between the three of these. Now because when I see apple first gene and that's the lightning port, I assume the second change is gonna the one with closer features and maybe just the update to U.
S. B C. But no, the second genes, the really nice one that has everything and the U.
S. B. C. Is now actually the cheapest, is done out of all of them and kind of arguably .
the not .
the least amount of future .
which is cheaper .
than the light, but only I M two ipad because they ever is.
Okay, apple, if you're listening, call the good apple pencil. Apple pencil pro.
Why not a pro in this one that makes lunch .
for the educate for that I know. Oh, but like that actually makes a lot of.
yes, get rid of the first generation one and make a dangle that people can buy to charge the first generation apple pencil lightning to mail USB c cable.
Did you see how you plug in the ub c on this new one?
It's like you open up the back opens.
Yeah, it's not like this site now instead.
big mac can can they would .
come .
out the .
side, but I think you would be hind enough the .
pencils to be physical. I know one could do. That is what apple let you, right? Well.
yeah, really should have the lighting one you can use while charging because it's taking .
up the side of your ipad.
yeah. And so get rid of the first. Get rid of the lightning one. And solid go named the U.
S, B, C one just apple pencil, and named the good one apple pencil pro that like a you're gonna confuse a lot of parents out there. We're just trying to get their kids appropriate pen. No, come, i'm confused. And we do .
this living yeah they're .
doing IT just a confusing item. They dislike you. It's working. This definitely. We didn't .
deserve an even a completion .
of like all of the apple events, all the apple newsroom press releases that don't get event and like power, rank them in terms of how good of announcement they were. This is like pretty middling. Not that great. But there are some things that they have announce that were like this yeah, and they didn't get their own event. I thought that I was fun sometime that have been crazy.
If they did m one as a press release will be crazy. Well, you have any other thoughts .
on the pencil? none.
Na, okay. We we should talk about all in the youtube features, but first we should take a break, and before that we should do trivia. trivia.
So as always, answers at the end. Yeah, first question. Time magazine named the end sixty four the machine of the year in one thousand hundred and ninety six.
But what two games were originally launched with the council? One point per game? What two games were launched in the council? You 嗯。 I think everyone.
there's one I really want to say and pretty sure we the one .
you to crash.
And Better.
if you don't want to go off the rails on the logic games, we should just start to the right now because you're really ching.
Hey, italian from the korea lip top. We spend a lot of time talking about some of the most important people in taking business about what they're putting resources to and why do they think it's so critical for the future. Learn more at american express dock com sech with A M X card member entrance access not limited to amx and card right? Welcome back. Let's talk about youtube, kind of a one place. Yeah, youtube. So we're on youtube. I don't know if you guys know a lot guys listen on audio only many of you watch this forecasts on youtube and some you may know I actually on my own youtube channel, we told you know a lot to pack that here.
I started a .
few years ago.
It's going well for you. I think it's like .
a good overlapping audience.
I think people want to know about IT. I review .
tech products, the origin story way for first.
So we've been used youtube for a long time and we just got like a big youtube feature drop. That's how I explain what has happened like a pixel feature kinda except it's all well, all coming soon.
So I was not actually the same thing.
uh, slowly rolling out. But there are a literally three dozen new features coming out both in design and functionality and some of are really cool. And I want to to give some my thoughts on some of the best stuff um a sort of a high level overview. This is like some U I stuff.
some feature stuff, some functionality .
stuff. Let's a and i'm curious to here you guys thoughts on this is there's a stable volume togo. So if you're watching some videos, you've heard those videos turned up so sound like a compressor.
You just turn IT on. yes. And it's funny because I wonder if this gets turned on automatically for videos that deserve IT or if the toggle is just there after you have ready gotten blasted. So I started blast and I feel like I should .
be .
on automatically, like there should be an A I that watches that scans youtube videos for comments for people who are like headphone warning, and then was automatically for maybe.
And IT looks very .
confused here. I'll just read what IT says exactly on the youtube blog post. The youtube official blog post reads, uh, easy on the ears.
We're giving you Better audio control on mobile devices rolling out starting today. Stable volume will be automatically turned on to reduce during differences in volume for an overall improved watching and listening experience. And as little animation showing a pop up with a toglet that's a stable volume so you can toggle honour of honour off, automated .
automatically on.
And I assume, even though doesn't say that, that means that one video with dramatically different volumes will be Normalized.
That would be great if that's what IT.
Is that what that sounds like to me? I would like that if I was like between videos, each video was like the same volume because so it's like an account, like an apple go yeah because if you're like if you like making a video that has sort of like A A slope in volume as part of the experience, I would suck if the .
APP automatically like north difference, i'm sure hope that has somewhat of but there are videos out there that just suck at volume.
And the the other focus, if you watch that video, he did a vid on the core.
but probably .
the forecast. And there's just not a youtube right now who doesn't car videos title for a chance. Quite evs by did a video on the new corvet Z O six and he does a remote start in the video and he just blasts my headphones and do, what are you doing like I should no, it's half two so you you have turn the volume up a little bit and then you just get crushed. I going to report that channel. Honestly, I like that channel, but I say I do to every mr.
Beast, video starts yelling at the beginning.
but at least starts right from the beginning. yes. You know like get used to one volume of level and the changes anyway. So that's one of the youtube features. Another one is straight rid from tiktok.
I don't if you guys have had the hold to fast forward on tiktok, says IT start off iphone, only a nout on android as well tiktok, thirty seconds and people still fast forward to them longer. Take talk and so people will hold down the last side of the screen and it'll fast forward IT. It'll watch IT at two x speed. Seen how you listen to podcast.
sometimes at two, or David listens to every .
video every year.
Video I had is insane behavior .
was in the .
same amount of .
information in half.
I watch all youtube videos too.
But like, what if a good video, I O I will say.
And music, yeah. One of my friends made in a video that was an hour and fifteen minutes long recently, and I was watched by my self at two x and then I washed IT with a friend, one x and the experience was Better at one x for sure. Who would IT depends on trying to absorption.
IT might be even Better if you watch have just if we're following the trend. If we're following the trend like you cut IT in.
is a data a trend or just IT could .
be if it's the start of a trend.
The problem is if it's the thirty F, S video, and I are watching IT at fifty f, yeah, that's tough. That's tough. I think you should wash at thirty F P S. Anyway, my point is on youtube, you can now hold down anywhere on the screen are.
So just present, hold down anywhere on the player to automatically bump your player back b to two x once you get to the part of today you want, just let go. IT goes back to one x just like tiktok. great. This feature is on web tablets, mal devices.
Maxes think this is great for the less of a reason, the tiktok. But like when you get longer videos s especially mobile scrubbin so hard because you can skip like five or ten minutes really easily if it's like an pung video. So if you can just scrub through a monitor to really quickly, it's way more precise than that sense.
Yes, improvements to scrubbing. I'm glad you brought that up because one of the other ones we've improved is larger previews while you're seeking through a video. I think it's all screen now because they would be like a little window at .
the bottom and .
drop through now is just like you see full screening exactly you're giving through search by a voice or song. So it's basically like shazam or less. The feature reads using A I to match the sound to the original recording.
This feature will roll in next few weeks and be available on android devices for now. You play singing or hum a song, and youtube, pull up for you, like the music. Deo, pull up whatever on youtube. IT might just be the sign. I.
my music this, but for all youtube videos like this is call. But what if I like H I watch this guy, he was really funny, and you like this entry was kind of like, whatever. But you can remember their name.
You get away for bar, yes. But imagine, like, is six a model for sure?
Like what if people are like, I watch that video on the iphone. The guys is who's like, what's up? Its M, K, H, B D here and but and then like, oh.
you're thing of mark is brother you know what I ve suspect, I suspect that this may be using parts of the same tech that is the copyright I D system. So the way IT has like audio hashes and if you have copyright ted music, a song that can automatically identify IT, or if you have something that's really close to CoOperated music and might automatically get picked up under the same umbrella, I feel like this is kind of leveraging the same tech where if you're next to a radio and you hold your microphone up to you, like youtube, what is this song, it'll be able to find IT because it's it's going to hear the same audio hash. And I can find that thing on youtube origin.
but google has this already, too. In google search, you tube .
to music .
IT .
probably will get.
is the kind of the same at this point.
Yeah, my yes, who knows? Is the google?
That's the ultimate google question.
I think this ounds cool. If you could do IT for videos that aren't music.
I will say you look at this animation. There's a tb that his voice .
or song on this like a, so you can do an impression of someone.
And yeah, yeah, that will be sick. I like four, five months of the way from part test is like that episode twenty three.
So I go, my diet is fifty .
fifteen .
percent. I change really bad.
but that's a great point. Voice or song and the song says placing a huma songs. So like.
yeah, the voice, do you have to try and match the voice? Or if you just like say things that they say like an opening.
does they say that? Video, ah, let's go .
to a report.
When everybody come in from the field.
you're looking for a song you can play, sing or hum, and youtube and android will go find the video for you.
yes. So it's unclear what that voice tab will do uh, or if it's anything different from singing or if it's just ocp, I don't really know, but it's there voice or song finds to on .
youtube there clear .
like two of .
them were like, I love this and then I read anyone like, I don't know what this is. So i'm gonna optimistic. I'm not introduce .
you to your favorite one right now, Andrew. The feature, this is your favorite feature, I was sure. 嗯, anytime to anyone and any video. Says the word was like or subscribe.
which is happening right now.
The buttons in the youtube baps subscribe glow like.
like subscribe is that is working. Like I don't .
think this is out now.
Like.
like subscribe in the future. How about to read the fuso?
We can be further.
and I think this pretty, is a little longer animations that celebrate meaningful moments OK. We wanted to bring more life to the video watching experience. So now, so now, when you're watching on web or mobile, the page may react to what a creator says, now want to create as yours.
So now I want to create as yours to like or subscribe. A visual queue on those button will appear in sink with the video. And once fans math that button, it's actually says that a super explosion of playful Sparkles or reward them. Top comments also automatically rotate, so you can scan the best commentary from the video with a rotate.
What does that mean?
Top comments.
they get swapped out.
Okay, sure. I was. Imagine and for new video uploads, we added a new animation that updates, view, count and like count in real time for the first twenty four hours to show how many other users are engaging with what they are watching. That is interesting.
We have no real real time .
for twenty four hit.
Depends on the .
video if it's some mr. Beast video yeah when there's six million views and six hours is is gonna being refresh like every six .
real time because they did the huge push like a year to ago to just be like nothing on social blade. Anything had anything passed. Like point, so be like ten point four million or like five point k .
like but that was just public channel subscribed accounts, which is a little more vancey. But remember one when I was this might be something people watching don't remember. But remember when youtube videos all stopped at three hundred and one views? Yeah, remember that I thought always three, sometimes four, three hundred, but they would always stop around interviews.
And that was like, that was like a pillar of youtube culture was if your video slamming into three views, and then paul there for a while, that video was popular, you pass you blue past three reviews to be a real before they picked up the real time again, I would, and IT would hit three reviews, and IT would not change for a couple hours. And I would ban would come back and to be at ten thousand years, because they were, because they were verifying that those used are real. And at some point, I don't know what year IT was, but they just figured out how to verify views continuously in real time. And so now if you refreshed, if you count on a video every couple seconds, even on a popular in a video, you'll get the updated view.
But the first twenty four hours we found is always lagging behind. So so this is interesting.
This is true. We will notice is the real time of the account in the analytics that we look at on the back end from youtube or ahead of the public facing view counter. And I think that, that probably will still be the same.
I think the live updating public you can will be slightly behind as the five years do I mess something that, that will be so IT will be in real time. IT will be in real time. Well, I don't think I will be in real time.
I think it'll still be. It'll just update without you refreshing the page. I think .
that this type they use the .
word real time that I think it's like yeah the twitter real time like counter that like goes up every few seconds that take up .
maybe IT .
won't actually in real time.
won't you? In real every .
few seconds? yes.
So it'll be it'll be rounded and IT. It'll be verified views, but IT will count upward without you refreshing th Epace. Pretty wild.
So he could be watching a video that has two hundred thousand views. And by the time we finished the video, IT has one hundred and two thousand views. Yeah and I will say that on the page as we're watching.
I think that I think they're trying to do like they're this whole thing that happens on redit or like you're throwing reddit. And if something has a lot of votes, your intent IT makes you feel like you should voted to. It's like crowd mentality yeah and I think they're going to get people to watch videos that they see the view counts going up and they feel like they want to be part of everyone. Watch at the time the people.
sorry, the horizon .
people watched live content like you could watch streamed like a playback content. But when live people feel more and to have to watch anything in real time and there's not anything necessarily Better about IT.
I get you want to see that happening in real time, real real time that you to real time but I don't know that's like with every like weird little for not like when we had the clipsed. So like I could have just watch that on T. V.
later. But I was dying to see that thirty seconds yeah in real, real time. And if you see yeah if you see that thing pink up, yes, be part of IT.
This this is also reminding me of another feature that you guys may may not remembering youtube if you if you have to view questions are about old youtube features I would crush. There's another old feature back in the day, and this probably .
two .
thousand twenty or in .
relax generation, real time years of the decay a while ago.
There is a future where if you were signed in IT would show underneath the video the user names of everyone else watching the same video the same time. You oh yeah, remember, oh, in real time. So unlike popular videos, there will just be a gigantic role list of all the usernames of everyone watching at the same time.
I think we even count. I would say, hey, six hundred people are watching with you. But if IT was just like a random skill video, sometimes you be watching and another using name would pop up. There's just two v watching the video, their user naming. You can click on .
IT and .
look at their profile and .
see where .
they are from name is, yeah.
you see. Video, seven, thirty four P. M, last night. Man.
know, I did the other day, I went on my tube olitic. S, and they showed the box of subscribers, and you could sort by reverse chronological. And so I went back and found the first ever subscriber to the M K B H D.
channel. And they haven't log in in ten years. But I went to their channel and I tried to find who they are. And IT was really hard. I was a fellow golfer.
Oh, and I was someone who, without revealing too much, was a fellow ginger golfer around the same ages me when I uploaded my swing. We subscribe to each other. And like, he also has an old golf swing video on his channel .
from a that sounds .
like .
a long .
for all now it's .
thirty old would be funny as if that guy only remembers .
the goldwing video and had no idea that you've turned into. Like probably that would be really fun .
to find this person, interview them, be like to play golf because he might not even play golf. He's tuber as there are youtube videos of his golf swing online, the same exact way they were of mine.
You have to show this after I, not xing. And yeah.
I wasn't able to find much more than what I told you, but whole .
team that help.
That's true. That is true. All i'm saying is youtube ads features, and they are there like pillars of internet culture for me.
Anyway, I kind of view time through youtube changes. Is that weird? I don't know. I spend a lot of time .
on you were born right around the time when the subscribe, but later time said I do some .
time in terms of like when a certain phone launched though, I just the way you guys .
are talking about nostalgia game councils earlier is the way I talk about the different colors the subscribed button was over the years like that. See the face you're making. That's I when you say the end sixty four or is going to have a new version with the emulate. I'm like when the subscribe buton was yellow and everyone said point at the yellow button .
and then IT was great next year.
the yellow button yeah, thank good times anyway. Anyway, uh, new youtube features come to come to use youtube near you. Um I think I feel like we should take a quick break. We got a bunch of meta stuff to talk about and also the one plus open i'm holding IT right now.
What's the meta stuff we're going to talk about? I gets so we're talking .
about talking about it's mea stuff from meta who made a matter stuff. You'll see what I mean. We'll get there. But before we get there, that's to trivia.
Alright, I had an end sixty four question. But mark Z, I was inspired by your call to action, and now I I defunct youtube features .
three questions.
This is three .
questions, let and two points and other four points on the word board.
Points on the board.
one, two.
Carry the one. No.
Andrew, you have the potential makes some serious damage this week.
Potential hits a huge three to cut the lead. Forty six.
Who's Chris ball? He was .
wearing greg's line.
Me good.
Do they have that in hockey? What is that?
I twenty seconds to leave anyway.
in two thousand and nine, two thousand and nine, youtube introduced an experimental light weight version of their site.
SHE did what was a call?
I was hoping .
you would ask. I was hoping you would ask.
Experimental light weight .
version tube, the APP, the site, the service. Think about that. What my .
second question, okay, yes, I not use is so strange. We think of the big innovation on the four to be 4 bit 3d graphics。 But in one thousand nine and ninety seven, the sixty four introduced what now essential smart phone feature to its controllers.
I know. Because like a god news to do, because he's also a god is a god. Too bad on the same.

We got some hard work to talk about this is it's that time a year just IT doesn't stop. It's october. We've got some new hardware. We've got the one plus open, not my favorite name term, but it's a folding phone.
And it's so it's one plus first folding phone debated if you can call of that because OPPO, their sister company has a many falling gone. So but IT is the first one plus falling phone. And I did the review of IT. It's already I think it's a really good falling phone and we'll get to also met a smart lasses as well and me be the .
quest for a little bit but calling in one plus open in first that all of their other one plus devices were like really hard to fix. We're that they're closed.
Will they are wow. Are they close? Yeah, I would argue they're open. And I would argue this is close .
where they open .
because you can see the screen and it's there.
You are right.
It's open for business. That's what that is.
Am I right or David? You're right.
You're got right up .
that is closed.
This is, I know, one plus close.
you open up. Yeah one plus open.
I think it's not a .
terrible name .
is terrible.
Us is your broken? No way. Yeah way.
baby. Yeah, what way? So let's just give .
you the high lever overview. So it's it's one place. This first folding phone IT is a relatively Normal size, is outside screen.
It's a six point three inch ten D P H L T P O outside screen with IT by oltp o to lt. Po on the outside, two on the outside, under ten hurts, two thousand eight hundred minutes max rights. It's the new brighter screen i've ever seen in the phone in its awesome. I love these bright screens we're getting that took like two weeks yeah right yeah. In my pocket was the previous chat for right?
But I find was one hundred and spread and pixel, sorry.
fair. Okay, that top tory, good fact. top. But it's got the alert slighter. It's got this huge time bump on the back.
They have been doing all these like review the like teaser videos and giving people exclusive like looking at the phone and they all have to like blur the camera bump as that the design of the phone. We've seen the phone before, but i've been using for like three weeks now. We've seen the inside screen seven point eight inch uh squarish as ratio, almost no crease at all.
I mean.
you can see that here, really, really good inside screen. Hundred twenty hurts lt po three point o also twenty eight hundred and needs little corner cut out for the cells. E camera um really, really good looking screen if you .
ignore the dead pixels speaking of the hint and not really being able to decrease, our friend Michael Fisher, friend of the show mr model, did a very good video where he went to oppose the quarters in china. And with a whole breakdown of the hinge and they reduced the parts down to fifty nine parts from like a hundred and yep and um yeah you should wash my video is very good video yeah just saying .
looking at this phone, happy birthday. Mark is dad.
Yeah wow. It's my dad is birthday.
I'll buy my something up. nice. Happy birthday, mr. romney. Sorry, I are up to that was like just like calendar, big things, dad's birthday, right? Yeah.
today as we record this, but is one thousand seven hundred dollars? yeah. IT is their most expensive phone ever. Honestly, my initial take is like, okay, wow, this is a really good first gene.
Foodful first, if you can call, because this is basically the same as the upper find and which is open, they ve done flips theyve done. Follow the kind of fits right in between the samsung Candy bar shape and the pixel fold passport shape between those. yeah.
And I really like IT. I like the flat sides, like the the alert slider. I like the flat, the power button being the thing reader. Yeah, want to get things about this fun yeah that being said, as you notice, Andrew, um yeah there is a little tiny bug size dot on the bottom of my screen that appeared a couple days ago. IT hasn't grown yet, but IT probably eventually will, considering IT wasn't there.
That's basically that's more than just like a dead because that's like multiple .
picture that looks like there's a small fly. I think I .
swipe away because I thought I was like a pizza .
I first did when I first showed up. That's really about time is right around the hint A I know I reviews this phone. I talk about what's good and was bad about the cameras are solid. It's got this huge, huge, uh, camera circle on the back .
reminiscent of a black hole. Lumpy is like a black hole and whatever they call that, yes, what they said I was like irresistible just like a black house.
which very funny, very funny. It's a house vive camera. It's got a three excel photo. It's an ultra wide IT is a decent set cameras I would say um nothing like remarkable or game changing but I generally found I really like using the phone and my conclusion was like, right this is a really good phone but if I just end IT there that doesn't mean people should buy the phone IT turns out a phone can be really good and still not something that most people should buy because number one, Price seven hundred box for a phone. Number two, the ability questionable.
You know, not everyone gonna break every falling from their own, but it's still no matter how many millions of test you do hand, and we saw everything they try to do with mr. Mobiles, video, you still have them in parts like there's still some risk there. And the number three, I found IT surprisingly hard to convince regular people that a falling phone is something they should even care about. Dear power users, we love folding phones.
I see a lot of flips out in the wild, but i've only seen like three folds.
Ever seen a single the number of followers yeah.
Um interestingly, if you buy this phone on one plus dot com, you can send in literally any phone in any condition and they will give you a two hundred dollar credit towards IT um Fisher asked in the briefing if I set my nexus four on fire and send IT to you in a box where you still give me the two hundred dollar credit they said yes. They actually said yes. So we were like speculating on on this.
We were like, do they actually only need to charge like fifty hundred for the phone? But they were trying to make you look more premium because in my opinion, getting folding phones just as cheap as possible, like lowering the Price as much as possible of falling phones, is is more important to sell more folding phones than making IT seem premium. Yeah.
it's kind of a psychology thing. When you see a Price tag of seventeen hundred dollars, you kind of just assume a bunch of things about IT.
but that's also in the Price category where, like I would never a that much for a phone ever. Well.
I would also like I see what you're talking about. I do think getting a lower super important, but I think someone who would pay fifteen hundred would also pay seventeen hundred. So like I wonder if that making a huge difference between that presence where you could get IT down to and even twelve hundred is in seen for a phone, but there are plenty of non folding phones after that are twelve hundred dollars, and they're not even top of the like back all the time. So that thing I wonder 40, if you've just gotten ready to do that.
maybe they just want to harvest the lithium out of .
the phones that you send in. I don't know they're .
not reit on fire, yeah, but they would still take IT. A couple of good point has bring up.
Number one is this one has to live in a lineup. So IT has to have a Price that's alongside all the rest of the phones that this company makes. So in a sense, the lowest you can charge whatever your most extensive phone is. So if you have is your one plus and you have a nine hundred phone like you obviously can't go alone one hundred.
what does that have to be true though?
Well, that brings me to the other point, which is if I combine all the parts of the stone, IT does feel like it's at least in a nine hundred dollars one, the snapdragon eight gentoo, the sixteen gigs ARM, the half a terribly of U F, S four point and story, the really, really good six point three inch outside lt. po. Screen at two hundred hundred minutes, like the performance, the battery, the six, seven, five s charging, all the stuff.
No, doesn't change. Doesn't ging such a one plus thing. But like if I just put together all that stuff and this seven point eight and inside .
screen premium leather back, i'm getting sarcasm. It's awful.
horrible fake weather IT feels like it's at least in one hundred dollar phone I meo and the engineering us. To go into the R N D.
In the hinton. Remember when people used to compare phones actually based on spects and they be like, oh, but IT doesn't have as higher aspect of this as this one. This phone does have all the higher spects sixteen gigs of RAM. Two thousand eight hundred and display yeah like that's at least a thousand dollars from yeah you know so I .
guess when you first said that I was like White as a folding phone half because like there are present coins of a folding phone verses and Normal funds. Like if we were getting to that point where folding phones worth similar Prices to just flagships, that would be a great thing because then you just making the choice on, do I want folding or do I not want folding and not having to be like, oh, I want falling, but I don't want to spend five hundred more dollars yeah.
So my theory was falling phones are going to be finally allowed to hit mainstream when they are literally just a regular phone that happens to fold, which means they have to also be as then as a regular phone. When they are folded up, they have to be the same Price as a regular phone is a lot that goes into getting them down.
So that's happening with the flips because the flips had same thing, finally had a thousand dollars with the flip with flagships backs, the ground flagship backs and now the rather forty um the non ultra is a six hundred dollar of honor just launched for six hundred box. It's a flip. So like that's like that's like a mystery phone pricing territory. You know it's a flipping phone. And also like there's like a tec no phantom flip or something .
that's also around six hundred dollars.
But yeah, so that seems like the flips are getting down. They're getting way.
Well, the first one was like we get IT. This is a total test. See what happened before. And yeah, now we're on the fifth one, right? And it's still how was I agree I remember reviewing .
the first one. I was like, guys, I know it's a thick phone. I know it's got crazy. Bezzle falls in half.
Can we appreciate that this thing folds in half? All the engineering and risk that I went into making this crazy thing. And then then two were like, right, a little more fine now, nice, cool, good.
I can see the improvements, the directions positive. Then gen three, like, and glass, right? It's even more refined. And then jen four was like, I think that I think it's different. And then and five, it's like I literally hold IT up to the next to like I think that the flash me slightly flatter, like the this the hinges a little bit thinner and like they're really refining little by little on that and the Price is just rocks all. Yes.
like the four and the five of the samsung series are .
almost most exactly the the three they did do the like display camera and like which I felt .
where they added on still.
So yeah, as what IT is, this seems like the folds are all kind of hovering. The pixel fold is also eight, one hundred, like they are all kind of in this area where also is IT even. That's the thing. It's like inflation is IT even possible for a falling phone to get down to the Price of regular phones. Because if whatever does that means, all the components of a regular phone, which there are less of, are now cheaper. Like if I have a high and folding phone, which has two screens, a split battery and a hinge, if that gets to nine hundred box, that that means a high end phone is less than one hundred box because IT has one screen, one battery and no him you ever.
The technologies is advancing and potentially getting cheaper to manufactures. Like if if they created a new technology as the years go by, that type of technology might get cheaper over .
the yeah I just think the best you can do is reduce the difference in Price. IT will never be the same or less year because it's two screens yeah and two batteries yeah .
the okay but you could say like the z flit five, which has two screens, right? It's got the screen on the front and the into your screen.
Sure, those are getting cheaper. They are getting cheaper. But if you if you task samsung with their same supply chain to make a phone without two screen with the same spects, who would cost less, right? If you put the same yeah almost flagship cameras that they put in that phone, if you put the same size battery and it's just a regular slab phones, that would be an s twenty three F V, right?
Ah so of cost less. I would say comparing this to A Z fold five, I would buy this server z fold five anyday because I like the form factor Better. It's got Better spects general. It's slider. It's got Better software .
in my opinion.
little dead pixel on the inside, really .
tough. I mean, I think this feels great. I think that looks awesome. This this really on that's a huge and flag.
yeah. The thing is though, it's not on I haven't gonna yet. And this is reminiscent of on the .
pixel fold came out .
and XO I .
ld here after like a week on the beach in chicago and had no problems and then i've had this for like two and a half three weeks and bab IT. And I cannot believe anything has .
gotten like I haven't been in any weird thanks.
I mean, it's dead pixel.
So sometimes I mean, this hinge, though, looks for all the hinchman that i've seen, this looks so hardest to get something on the end of, do a little a sap.
Oh, nice clam shell.
How many more picture that I break?
So I just think it's weird. yes. So IT looks so much Better than the first affordability. Like this is a hinge that you don't think anything can get in IT has I P X for water resistance?
You show this to me. Like five years ago, i'd like, oh my yeah.
God, this is incredible. So they've come a long way. But with any of these weird like screen issues, like you said, it's kind of just bad luck.
Like guys spend three hundred dollars, I would be very, very few. I think the .
question would be, how will one plus support these songs? Like can you get a screen replacement? Do you is there a warranty, ty, that will cover just a random screen break, inge, that are going to happen to some people.
you to set this one on fire and .
shift to them .
off the next one? Yes.
IT is what IT is, but it's out there. Watch the video. I think that covers a lot, a lot of the thoughts we have a lot of the thoughts about other falling phones. I think I say the same as you. I will take a sort of samsung anyday, yeah, but I would take the pixel.
which is funny, that's a conversation of talking about was like the pixel fold is technically worse in every way, but I like the farm factor Better and the U. I is just so enjoyable that I would take the pixel photo over this. I also yes, yeah yeah, but I really work on the pixel all, but I would still .
take IT talking about that honor magic too. Yeah, I would take that hardware over samsung. So it's all out there.
Can wait for pixel fold five, the evolving world. I work getting the, you mean S Z four five. Now pixel four five yes.
So and like five years, yes, four years, years. Yeah i'm also excited for that. Um right let's talk about these these glasses.
This is the other piece of hardware we got this week. These a nice day is got his too. These are the digital when you put them on.
So these are the matter. Smart glasses. He has .
multiple stages of connecting to your phone. It's like we're on the blue is connected .
batteries connected is no.
I like in england, okay? These ones are transition lenses, which is just .
playing music.
What they I think I went apple picking this week and I put them on and I thought, my friends, we're going to be like, David, you don't wear glasses. What are you doing? You being lame again. And then um what actually happened was they looked like this. And for audio listeners, they turned into regular time is yeah, they transition the regular sunglasses.
So explain one of transition.
oh plain, what? These actually OK.
So we're wearing some glasses. So meta made smart glasses in collaboration with. And if you seen ray bench, yeah, you seen ray ban sunglasses.
They've been popular and expensive and well known for a while, hundreds of years. Then red and stories came along. That was the first gene. This is the second from meta. This is a pair of sunglasses that inside of them has a camera, some microphones, some speakers, a computer, a touch pad on the side and some batteries to keep IT power for a couple hours, and a shutter button on top for your photos and videos. And IT looks kind of just like a Normal paris on, like, almost exactly like a regular pair of like.
This is one of their styles, and this is how, this is how I would look out the box if you didn't see the sort of a semi clear thing on the side, you know, are the tech and the other cameras. So this is what they would look like. And you could walk around, take first person videos and do a whole bunch of computing yeah on the the photo and video .
code is really good, by the way yeah say I agree yeah the first person yeah I I fully I think that's the number .
one thing people are going to want to do with this is first person photos and videos here. And I think they're surprisingly good quality. They are vertically oriented. I guess the sensor is stories IT perfect, matches shooting on your phone and vertical makes sense. I wish I could also shoot orizondo, but doing so well, I thought about driving because I was like, oh, I could do an auto focus video and that would be my first person. This is the best first person driving camera ever made.
We played ping ong on IT. It's really well .
stabilized and got good color. I put your me so so that's .
number one is .
like nice first person camera. That's number one. Best thing people going to do with IT number two is the speakers are surprisingly good.
Yeah, they are these little two slot speakers on the things that like project downward into ears, like right into your ear canal, and it's blue, is connected to my. So if I were to play music right now, Andrews wearing them right now, and I could hit play, don't. And on the nether ad phones.
you may be able to .
hear the music. So the idea is, without any headphones on, you can actually listen to music, you can be on the phone, you can be listening to voice prom, some things like that, uh, and no one whatever know, because you only even have your buzz.
What I was surprised about when you are trying them is despite IT napping like a close ear bud or it's not even bone conduction raises now so I could I couldn't hear you listening to things, but he was loved enough for you to not be able to hear what I was saying.
Yeah so I volume, I can hear everything around. Here what i'm listening to yeah and max volume everyone around me can hear IT as if i'm listening to your buds at max volume yeah we're open back but I truly that's loud it's yes, I never listen that loud. So so it's got the mike, it's got the ear box that's awesome.
You can control the music with the swipes, control the volume, play, pause, all that stuff. But you know, that is a computer on your face and IT is attach the internet into your phone. So the last kind of interesting thing that I can do is act as a computer, but there is no screen.
So everything you're doing is through audio. So the best way to do that is with an audio assistance, a voice assistant. And so you can say, hey, meta, and ask you to do things, ask you to read you things.
And I will use IT national anger phone to do so. IT uses metas lama lama, their language model, to figure out what it's gonna do. So you can like ask you to take a picture or take a video, which is cool. And IT works very quickly, which we take a video, right? Yeah, try say, hey.
matter, 嘿, hey.
matter. Take a video.
Take a video. Oh, I can see if that, oh, there's a little flashing light on this time. I can tell yeah me.
And this is what .
you look like when you when you shoot videos with your song glass. But yes, so you can do that. But you can also just ask IT, hey, what's so other? Hey, what's a fact? I ask IT, how asit rana like google something and it'll do IT you can ask you to write you a letter, ask IT to explain something to you. Um I think we did also see an example of something in the keynote of like coming later I will use the camera to analyze what's in front of you. Ask me about the thing in one of you.
This seems like an actually .
very useful thing, the natural language processing s that was a really good club. scared. I'm just like natural language computers being able to talk to computer and not have to talk with specific keywords to make IT work, and then also being able to be multi model. I suffer you. This is the type of like face war and computer that we've been like dreaming about for decades.
Yeah, as long you get past the fact that facebook .
constantly has a camera.
my, but I do. We just need to put that this claim out there that if you are accepting this, you are accepting a facebook microphone and camera on your face at all time effects.
Oh, well, yeah, we will walk around just and joy .
is about rode horse. But to rebel.
they've tried many trojan horses though. Know what's the facebook portal? Theyve tried many trod work for old people. Yeah, this one's going to work for fashionable people. Yeah, think about that.
I mean, the thing is they look enough like Normal sunglasses and they cost about the same amount as really nice nine.
or just .
like more expensive than regular rabbins.
but not by a ton. I went to Robins site and sorted by most expensive. There are dozens and dozens and dozens of sunglasses. I cost more than these. Yeah, okay, say more than a thousand.
I just say I really like the the like clear seeing some of the like processing units inside of IT and the speakers and stuff. This is like a clear not like a nothing phone clear but like IT looks .
good translucent yeah I might say yeah IT looks really good.
It's a lifeway. Um here's my one grape I have about them and maybe I want to make sure this is correct when you're recording is just this light that goes on, right?
Yeah that should be a red light, a blinking red light because the whole thing should be if this is a privacy issue of being worried that people around you are going to be recording you, a White light is not enough to just learn somebody around you that like this is potential recording video. I know that's where they put IT there to be like to get ahead of the like. Well, there are privacy concerns.
Are you potentially being filmed all the time you guys were wearing these before and had the White light on? And I was just like, I don't know what that necessarily means it's doing. I think that means it's recording. But didn't the old have a red or my mistake on.
I remember I I here lately.
I very well might be making that up. You should one hundred percent be a blinking red light. So even a solid red light, if you walk by, you might be, I say, like a glowing thing.
I like guys classed with blinking red makes me think like that person is taking video of me right now and if I don't like that, I can leave, right? I don't know that feels like wait you at all. Not enough of a real like warning to be onest.
I ve been around people and actually mostly David morning and I see I don't even see the White light and I realize later yeah on is a very simple thing yeah it's too little.
So when I was upstate um with my friends and I took a recording of my friend who was and I was at, you can't hear IT because the connected to the headphones but I was trying to I was trying to make IT obvious I was recording. So like what do you think of the apples? How much I scalable a scale? He was really confused. I was asking on these questions, the good ones like.
why is no idea .
I was asking these questions? And then I was like, i'm recording you right now he like, so even though there's a light on.
he didn't know. Yeah, it's not enough of light blinking red by one hundred percent fascinating.
Don't like that. fascinating. So now that these are out and they're going to be out in the real world, who knows how many people are going to buy these in uses and what they are using for.
But the video that I chose to make was sort of combining this with the oculus, the the metal quest three, because they seem like they are on opposite ends of the technology limit spectrum and and aiming at the other side at each other. So what I mean by that is this is as much technology as we can fit in glasses without them looking like more than glasses. The second we want to put more attack in them.
The only limiting factor is, can we put that tech in there? And they will still look like regular glasses, bigger battery, more powerful computer, extra features, whatever will do IT as long, that still looks like Normal glasses. And this is the benchmark. And they will keep adding stuff more and more and more until it's a crazy amazing virtual computer on your face.
I would say we've we've seen far sunglasses before, mostly just as them and like stock part that goes by your year are usually really thick and really obvious these are thick. I can't imagine being any bigger than this. I'm okay with this and it's it's is so that way it's OK. But like IT has to fit into this form fact of any bigger than this. You've lost IT as a smart sung glasses.
So I think of that. This is the glasses. All we're trying to do is add more and more and more to this pair glasses without making IT more than glasses.
The goal is to have they have amazing computing now. Now the other side, they are like the quest headset. Their goal with that is like, alright, we have this whole big bulbous thing on your head, head.
And we've put in all that we want to. We have passed our cameras. We have sensors as we have controllers. We have all this stuff, and the goal of those is to reduce them in size over and over and over so that we keep off the same functionality but shrink them down more and more until it's just a tiny little headset and then it's just a little visor and then eventually to separate glasses. The same goal of having all of the computing and a glass, especially because .
the medicine is like a big pivot towards mixed reality first, exactly a virtual reality second.
And the thing about mixed reality is that kind of feels potentially like a stepping stone on the way to glasses that can project in your vision with A V R. I don't know that's like really how the tech or work in the future, but the idea behind, past, through and mixed reality is it's your world with virtual elements in IT, and we're going to try to get this oculus quest thing and keeps saying accused were going to get the quest thing smaller and smaller and smaller until it's just a Normal para glasses, your world with virtual elements. And this is doing the same thing, Normal pair glasses, adding a more and more text. That's my that's my theory is there are like they're gonna just race to the middle in which everyone hits first wins and the other one will return to that that i'll be the .
it's like when two stars or black holes start like routine around each other closer and closer until they become a supermassive black yeah sick. Like space responses. yes. yeah.
Is that what happens then? Like they like so black holes that collide become supermassive, but one of them wins, right, emerge. If they been one of them, it's like one of them has to absorb the other. If they're roughly the same size, the slightly bigger one or depends on the angle.
more gravity, but its still has an infinite amount of mass. There are different levels of infinite. The metro, true, but we're not entirely sure.
Watch we've washed.
have watched black holes collide and become supermassive. David is were .
in glasses so i'd listened him yeah yeah I think that's that's my theory.
And there's a there's a photo of someone who took all the parts off of a quest three until IT was just like the the computer slash screens and it's not that big yeah so like it's not that much bigger than this. It's kind of like .
goggle yeah it's projecting onto this into the lenses will be the biggest.
I mean, they can go to the google glass R I P so many freaking years ago. Rw, and just be like little display in the corner.
You could put a projector on your body somewhere too.
Alright.

All right. Question number two, we love IT. Here we think of the big innovation of the end sixty four to be sixty four bit three d graphics. But in nineteen and ninety seven, the end sixty four introduced what now essential smart phone features, smart phone feature to its controllers.
Oh, that's not right at all. If i'm right, I have a slight issue with this. The way this question is worded.
Okay, come at me, bro. If you read IT doesn't matter.
That's not it's not why I was controllers, right?
