The '131' cask whisky is special because it is a limited edition, high-quality whisky selected from over 50 samples, including renowned brands like Macallan. It is a 24-year-old Ben Nevis whisky, distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2023. Each bottle is signed by Xu Zhiyuan, adding to its exclusivity. The whisky is described as light yet complex, with a refined flavor profile, making it a standout choice for connoisseurs.
Campbeltown was once known as the 'Whisky Capital of the World' during the 18th and 19th centuries, boasting numerous distilleries. However, the American Prohibition in the 1920s dealt a severe blow to the industry, leading to the closure of 80% of its distilleries. Today, only three distilleries remain in Campbeltown, including the highly regarded Springbank and Glen Scotia, which are known for their quality and heritage.
'Earth Fen' and 'Old Bai Gan' are significant in Chinese liquor history as they represent traditional and regional styles of baijiu (Chinese白酒). 'Earth Fen' is a recreated version of a 1990s Fenjiu, a famous清香型 (light aroma) baijiu, while 'Old Bai Gan' is a复刻版 (replica) of a traditional baijiu from Hebei. These liquors are part of a broader effort to preserve and celebrate China's rich distilling heritage, especially as regional brands face competition from larger, more commercialized producers.
The 'Taihe Zhuang' baijiu has a rich history tied to the民国时期 (Republican era) in China. It was originally created by a wealthy family in Guizhou to honor their father, who loved茅台镇 (Maotai town) liquor. The family invested heavily in replicating the best Maotai-style liquor, and the brand became highly regarded. After the family's decline, the distillery was taken over by local merchants but eventually disappeared. Today, it has been revived by曾宇 (Zeng Yu), who uses old基酒 (base liquor) from the 1990s to recreate its unique flavor.
The 81-year-old干邑 (cognac) is exceptional due to its age and rarity. It is a blend of cognacs from 1941 to 1943, making it one of the oldest and most refined spirits available. The cognac has a rich, complex flavor profile with notes of tropical fruits and flowers, and its酒精感 (alcohol sensation) is remarkably smooth for its age. Such aged cognacs are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs for their historical and sensory value.
