Editorial: Bad market, and with confirmation

Last Thursday, the Statistical Office of the European Union, Eurostat, released figures on sales in shops throughout the Union. These figures confirmed what they have been saying about shops in Malta: that they are suffering from a bad market. And not only; they also confirm that the bad market in Malta is in contrast to the rest of Europe.

Increase in sales in Europe

The Eurostat figures are for February, for each country of the European Union, but they also give the general trend in the Union taken at once. And this was a good one. The European Union continues to confirm that it has emerged, and now it has been a while, from the worst recession it has suffered in the last 80 years and in February sales in stores in Europe increased by 1.5 percent over the same month of the previous year.

We are supposed to have done better in Malta...

So in Malta we had to expect to do even better, because the severe recession that Europe suffered in recent years barely touched us, and if in Malta we were doing well in recent years when the -Europe was doing badly, so look how well we should be doing when Europe is also doing well.
