Italy: Rescued around 4,000 irregular immigrants in two days
In the last two days, Italy rescued around 4,000 irregular immigrants who were crossing the Mediterranean sea to reach the coast of Italy. The Italian Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano said that what happened in the last two days now clearly shows how the situation of irregular immigrants is a serious one.
Alfano explained that today two boats were saved from sinking with more than 300 irregular immigrants on each. From the beginning of the year until now, Italy has rescued around 15,000 immigrants. Alfano concluded by saying that we must see the roots of the immigrant problem by starting to address the traffickers.
