Vassalli is brought back to life in a new play
Surely everyone remembers the recent play 'I Love You', which caused controversy in the country due to the nature of the subject it dealt with. Now, the same production company will be staging another play on the stage of the Maltese theatre. This time, in the center of the play none other than Mikiel Anton Vassalli.
Vassalli is considered to be one of the most controversial Maltese characters, and the production, which bears the name of 'Cittadin Vassalli' and is being staged by 'Stajon Teatru Malti' will bring this character back to life. a Maltese citizen who in his time was more or less controversial.
The play will be staged on the 11th, 12th and 13th of April at eight in the evening in the Manoel Theater and will deal with the life of Vassalli, as the man who fought against the currents when in Malta there was the occupation of the French. In the words of the director of the play, Mario Philip Azzopardi, that was the only time when the Maltese fought against their own freedom.
The play is not a history lesson, but uses fantasy to put in the picture the difficulties that Vassalli was facing... difficulties sometimes even with himself. During the play a reference is also made through a parallel between the political situation of that time and the political situation we are living in today.
Tickets for this play can be obtained from the Manoel theater website -
