Hello beauties. Today I'm talking about one of my most favourite things in the whole world. Journaling. It might seem like something you did as teenager (dear diary, . . .) and not a thing you have time for as an adult but I honestly think this can be the key to unlocking so much.
Journaling is having a conversation with yourself. Asking yourself questions, writing down your thoughts or just free writing with no intention other than to just get things out and see what lands on the page. You might surprise yourself.
Free writing - can be a really simple way to get things out and get out of your own way. To stop filtering and just write. Set a timer for 10, 20 minutes and don't let your pen leave the page. Write whatever nonsense comes out. Just write. Shoe, blue, poo whatever comes up and you'll notice after awhile it will probably start to flow.
Be unabashed. Permission to rip or burn the pages or hide your journal someplace safe. You want this to be a place where you ACTUALLY write out your true feelings not filter incase someone else reads it. THIS IS KEY. We need to get to know what we are truly feeling and thinking. Not what we feel is appropriate. This is a way to truly get to know yourself again. SO BE HONEST> Let her rip. Permission to say the things. and burn after if needed. You aren't married to what you right. Maybe it's not even entirely true. Maybe you just felt that in the moment, but do you see what I mean? You get a glimpse into some things you might not even be aware of. That this or that were making you feel a certain way. That you were anxious or jealous because of something that keeps happening. That you feel weird around a certain person. Anywho the options are endless but the point is that it might sound like nonsense or your average complaints and then something comes out that you were not aware of. It's a great way to process your thoughts.
If you don't like the open ended free write - ask yourself some questions. How do I feel today? What's going on for me right now? What has been bothering me? Whatever feels like a juicy question to answer. Lean into that.
Grab a beautiful journal if that helps you want to write. I love the dollar store journal because I write a lot and like to fill them up quickly. Grab a pen that feels good. I love bright colours and smooth flowing ink.
And put on some meditation or binaural beats if that feels good.
This is a practice, not a one and done. Maybe set up a point to write once a week if you are new to it.
I find the more I Journal, the more I crave to write when things are going on for me. My one true confident.
Would love to know what you think!
