Carol was prompted to discuss Bob after discovering a trunk labeled 'Gail Katz Bierenbaum' among the boxes in his unfinished house. This discovery, combined with years of curiosity, led her to finally open that 'box' and share her story.
Bob was a plastic surgeon who moved from New York to Las Vegas. He was considered a catch because he was a Jewish doctor, spoke multiple languages, had a plane, and did medical missionary work, making him the 'Holy Grail' for single Jewish ladies in the 90s.
Bob was introduced as the newest eligible bachelor in Las Vegas. He was dressed sharply, had piercing dark eyes, and was immediately noticed by guests, including Stephanie Youngblood, who hit it off with him.
Mindy found Bob relatable because of his janky, mustard yellow Datsun 240Z, which was an unfashionable car in Las Vegas. This stood out to her, especially since she also drove an unfashionable Honda Civic sedan.
The turning point came when Bob spread rumors about their date at the Garlic Cafe, claiming Mindy was his new girlfriend. This invasion of privacy and his eagerness to publicize their relationship raised red flags for Mindy.
Bob told Carol that his wife, Gail, had disappeared during his intense residency in New York. He claimed she either killed herself due to depression and drug addiction or ran off with someone else. He also mentioned being accused of her murder and moving to Las Vegas to start anew.
Carol stayed with Bob because she felt sympathy for him and had a crush on him. Additionally, at 36, she was drawn to his impressive qualities—he was a Jewish doctor with a plane who spoke multiple languages—and she wanted to believe his story.
