ash. Hey, weirdos.

I am and i'm alena.

and this is growing your own love is.

Told of the Kitty is actually more bid. But I was just watching a tik talk about grow your lia and I really want to grow my own lofa. Now I just .

got real advised.

you know how seven tiktok are one minute in summer, like forty five minutes yeah yeah I was on one of those ones that forty five and a half minutes and not actually think it's like the max is three.

but I was going to say I think it's three but ha rock but anyways.

I just have one of those really long tiktok. And this guy was grown his own lufa. He grew a couple of them, and then he was like, peeling IT, which looked really satisfying. I was like, I want to do that.

And then he took the whole thing out, and they was like, draggin tic, I was like, you could cut that in half, put one in your kitchen sink, put one in your shower. And I was really thinking about that. But then I was like, kindly, looks like I would hurt on your body.

So would I say he had all of those that, and SHE had them all. I can watch for that. Most of my thoughts happened out loud.

What I met today.

I was a fun little process to watch IT. I always love someone like having an argument with themselves, and then like coming to a and with both sides of their brain, like both sides of the argument that happened in their brain come together.

I don't know if I even came to a believe we are not working. I no next episode yeah if i'm going to go my own loafer and not .

because what we've come down to, I think, is that you are concerned IT wasn't going to feel good. And then you said on my skin, no.

I said on my body, on my body, I don't think I was feel good on my body. Like IT looks rough, like IT looks like I be like IT looks almost like a like a palestine and which feels good on your foot, but you're not going to palestine.

Your shoulder necessary station is where we are.

But like these days, I guess they're not even supposed to exploit .

as much as I used to think I feel like everything stupid yeah me as well.

But anyways, I don't even know the climate in which you're sposa girl lufa.

So I guess we can just move on yeah, we'll move on from this. We'll figured out everybody .

are you rugs right now?

No, i'm on life and the answer is no.

We are not say no to drugs.

but you know it's just it's the holiday week.

It's the holiday season. It's most thanks the ethen i'm going eat of food.

I am excited. I'm going to be cooking today like crazy thing in things giving. So it's gonna.

It's gonna interesting. I'm particularly excited about your .

pumpkin .

age pasta are making the, and I honestly IT two more things. I also really excited about the sausage .

stuffing. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know what? I post some recipes because there are all recipes I found, unlike the interweaves.

So I can from, I post some recipes. The case that everybody thinks any of that sounds good, IT does. But yeah, we excited.

I like, I like cooking at, yeah, like doing a little urb button rub underneath the skin. I'll up in there. How do you feel like going to like the cavity or what I mean, that's my job.

IT is. But how do .

you feel about IT same? I feel about my job. Oh yeah, no, I thought you meant like it's your job because you could. No, I am like you literally is my job to go into l like cavities that no one else wants to go into. I described your job in a really weird way.

If you go first.

I got you there it's I go first, I cut dead things off of yeah so it's just the kind of but as well a turkey easier, I think.

Do you put like lemons or like, yeah and there let me let you.

let you all know. O, K, you're watering. You got to put a little sitters in there.

That's when I put a little boke of urbs, maybe sometimes rose parsely. Yeah, you've got to you ve got to really get the aromatics in there. And you also a rubble insult, right? Yeah, that's a brining process.

People, people dry bran. Some people don't brand at all. Bring up to everybody. I I brand before. Do you even. SHE doesn't even be here, even Brown Brown yeah and you want to put some like garden and like and the really important thing is basing my dudes based that gosh down bird that's important even if you look like a chicken yeah .

based a hello based .

forever IT makes a different even when I make like chicken breast sties go to bed that yeah that works. But you know, that's been a thanksgiving .

with us and .

thanksgivings with aca. So were right on target here. I think we're right on brand you know leafs and tuck in turkeys uh but yeah, today's also gonna be kind of like a different episode a little bit. It's like we're in the dark spooking, but this is like a different one. I feel we would have really done anything .

like this particularly. I am very excited.

I'm pretty excited. So let me know little will start this off the proper way. yeah. So I olenia. That's you. That's me.

I have been obsessed with the visor of us since I was a little little girl. Uh, I used to literally have to dress up like dorthy every time I watched IT. Uh, I had the ruby red slippers.

yeah. Had the outfit. My mom would break my hair. I know every line of that movie I watched a hundred thousand times suborning. So that was like my jam when I was little. And I was always wondering when I should allow the girls to get into IT because like i'm weird and like I I watched a lot of shift that I was like, wow I can't believe that didn't traumatize such as lap, but maybe I did I don't know the girls have watched leverance that they love IT but um but but was that of as you know, some people I remember red drew was saying the flying monkeys free time out and I member john was like, no, the flying monkeys I like scary I was like, I don't know guys yeah it's funny because .

I don't know man, they were that's how usually feel. I always thought that, like, they were a little bit scary but then they are in watching IT with the girls I realized i've only seen at once that's wine yeah.

that's a really I only watched .

at one time and then it's not that I didn't like that. I think you're .

just like didn't really get ah there you vibe with that. You don't yeah like it's it's I think it's like one of the things you watch IT and you either like, well, this is my personality, no or you're like, maybe i'll watch IT again in some day yes.

See, I watched kyoto ugly when I was little and I felt like that was my entire personality but do that is you're the wizards .

of voice and i'm kyoto yeah I think those honestly described as pretty well. yeah. But you know, I was worried. I didn't know. I was like, five of good.

And then this past halloween, a couple of people in their dance class, in their school had door thy costumes and I was like, and they were like, what's that? Oh, people are people are watching with that of but was like, I don't know and they came home when day we're like I really liked to that off IT up. Whose strothers can you actually started in IT to them? And this is how I usually introduced movies that i'm not quite sure if they're ready for you.

Like lebron, I did this to. We talk about IT a lot talk about like the plot. We talk about IT.

We talk about the story. And then when i'll do is i'll show them little clips of IT. And I see, look at this fun clip of them in the scary forest with the, with the wind monkeys.

And i'm like, do you like that? They're like, that's cool. And I was like, all right, we're here.

So after a few days of that, I was like, let's do this. We had like they were so excited we SAT down as a family. We watched the was that of eyes. I was in my glory like I was when we watched labrang. It's those are my favorite things about being apparent is like showing them those things yeah like because .

it's like you relive your childhood, the happiness and like, yeah like memories from your child.

You see IT through their eyes. And so we SAT down. We watched IT. They adored IT.

They watched IT how many times and for probably .

one hundred times. And it's only been like two weeks.

Like, I feel like a terrible aunt, but yesterday one of them was like, tt, will you watch that with me? And I was like, you want to watch like anything?

Yeah like, literally let's watch you again. But and of course, while we're watching IT, I immediately was like, guys who's your favorite ite, like you got have a favorite of the day, you know. So and I knew, I knew that my little fair middle child was going to love the cowardly lion.

Yes, because SHE herself is a lion. SHE loves me but a lion, and he loves lions. All I knew he was gona dig the scarecrow.

I just had a feeling, yeah, kind wipes. yeah. He likes that whole leader. He had the leader of the pack enables love dories they think she's like that just, and my little, this one just loved the whole thing SHE didn't know what to do. But so we got the discussion of, I was like, you know, when I was little, I was literally in love with the ten man, yeah, like, in love with the ten man. My mom can tell you I used to be like, can I marry the tin man and mom was like, you can.

But like, that's a nice thought and I don't know what that is and i've never really like fully thought about IT like and I think it's just now it's because before I was like your little and you're like, I love the to a man whatever you move on, you grow up and all of the second and watching IT with the girls again, i'm like suddenly like you don't move on or grow up. I didn't move on from that because I still think the ten man's hot. What's that about me? Like I was watching another nomes still like, really attracted to the, he's from my neck of the woods.

He said, right, he is. A lot of them are from boston. The wicked.

Which markets hamilton? He was from boston. H, I dit margret. Hamilton is not from boston. I just wanted her to be sorry about that. Ray bolger, the scare crow boston um I actually think i'm not sure if bert, I think his name is layer and not really sure get to in a second but the guy who played the cowardly line, he might have been from around here to a lot of them are from here.

And the ten men, he said.

was from ten man from doorstep. So and he has like a thic lost in exit. And I think that's like ingrained in my brain to just automatically like a connect to that's the most try when he says, like the ten men forgot the the ten maker forgot to give me a hat and just go, no hat, no hot, just like, yes, I like.

And then I realized that I not only do I love the ten man, but I love jack lee, the man who played the ten man. IT was a big realization week for me. Like, I really had, like I was, I was a journey.

He was an empty love situation. I just like, had to go through IT. God, that movie I never saw that movie.

I read that book like it's a journey of so so it's a journey watching the movie because it's forty two years long. Yeah, this was my like, my jery through. Why do I find the tidman and attractive? And I realized that I find that I have attractive.

Paton has a variety of workout for wherever you are in your fitness journey, holiday era, predrag off, meditation, error, dry, genuine era, whatever error of your life you're in pelton has the classes and motivation you need to get off IT. I mean, my will you just get up and do something error. So i've been really focusing on bradley roses cycling classes.

I'm really getting into some yoga classes, and it's been awesome because this is little thing on each of the classes that you can tell how heart IT is. And we're always running on time on paton because whether you need ten, twenty, forty five minutes of you time to sweat or just get grounded, pelton provides flexibility with daily on demand and live classes that fit your schedule in your life. pretty tall. He is he's tall. He's kind. He's a hard and died.

He has a hard, he has no hat, but he has, he has, yeah and he's got, he's gone. Very expressive. S what everything has a nice jaw.

You do love a nice, a great year. I definitely have a type. Not sure we all know that. But so this this is what brought me the big, long story that I just like feel like you'll needed to know because I also had like a really fun conversation on twitter over the bunch of listers about this.

And they were testing a ton of them were into the ten men, and they were like, oh my god, I ve thought was so. And then a lot of people were like, I was a scare crow girl. So like, we got, or like, I was a scared crow guy.

And we got like, this big discussion of, like, why the hell do we? yes. And IT was really fun. So like, thanks, we're going to go to that discussion with me.

And that made me think about the fact that, wait, I remember coming upon all these weird, dark, like, fucked up things that happened during the making of this movie, which is funny, that, like, we're also in love with, like that those of us who are like into this movie and IT beloved, like you can just be like, well, down to twenty thousand thirty. No, like on. But when you really look into IT, you're like, damn, the making of this movie was like a hero adventure.

Do you know what I feel like? It's not that I don't like that was a evas. But I feel like I like feel that when I watched you .

feel darkness because I remember darkness yeah, the first time I watched IT then like, I guess the only time until recently, I was just like, like.

so I didn't feel good about IT yeah see, I feel great about IT. So I apparently have not intuitive to the darkness. But now i'm like, wall, a dark shit, my pa. So what we're going to do today is we're going to go through all the fucked up dark seeker it's behind with, out of, because some people have actually asked us to do this in the past.

And recently, when I mentioned the girls were watching IT, somebody was like, you gotto do you've got to do the weird stuff behind the wizard of oz, behind, it's like the man behind the curtain. And actually, I think I was Michael from the spooky podcast was like, you guys SHE covered that. Like, look at, you know, little do you even working on that now? So let's start.

We're going to go through some of these things. I'm just going to go to like list bite less, but we're really gonna into them. okay. So the first thing we're going to talk about because the important is the ten man make up, because jacket.

I, uh, there is a big, long, very long standing like legend, myth, rumor that is untrue, that john y then that that was true, that the ten man, the original ten man who played him, died because of the makeup they put on him. That's a big, long legend of this movie that people like. Well, the original tin died from the makeup later.

Replace them. No, that didn't happen. In fact, john mistake, as I met when we were watching and I mentioned how I was like, oh my god, swan men.

And he was like, too bad. What happened to him, huh? Like, he made a joke like that.

Too bad knows. Like, nothing happened to him. Like, what do you mean that? Like, let me tell you the stories.

nothing. Then, if so, something did happen to the original ten man. But it's not what we think.

So jackeline was not the original tinman en buddy. Absent was originally cast as the school has actually not even the ten man. The ir co. oh. And ray bolger, who is the scare crow in the movie, was originally casts as the ten man.

So like opery swap ty, so at some point they decided to switch roles because I think ray came out and he said that he really felt he was Better suit for the role of scared co. And he like just really liked that part me. While he felt when he was Better, he does, he does a great anything like like he wouldn't work switched.

no. So we have buddy absent who was like in the beverley hill bill. He was like a very well known comedic actor.

All that good stuff, like everybody knew who he was at the time. He was cast as the ten men. So absent started rehearsals in the wardrobe fittings for his new role.

And everything was going fine with wardrobe, everything he said. In fact, he quote, I was a ginny pig. They didn't know how to simulate the ten man's garments.

So I found myself doing tests with clothes made of real ton, and clothes made of silver paper, and clothes made out of cardboard, covered with a silver cloth. The makeup was just as bad. Try this. Try that.

In the end, they glued a cap on my head and covered IT with glued on covered IT, glued on a rubber nose and a rubber chain and then covered the whole thing with clown White makeup and then poulder red aleuts um dust onto my face and head. So yeah, everything's going fine. No problems.

I don't see anything in there that could go right now. So everything was fine. He was covered with aluminium dust every day. That was fine.

He had recorded every line of the ten man's songs and when they began filming, so he was already, he had all the songs recorded, everything was ready to go. Things went well until october thirteen and one thousand nine hundred and thirty eight, which was only nine days after they started filming. Absent suddenly said, i'm feeling horrific.

And he was having labored breathing. He was having chest pains. His arms and legs were cramping and like, just like, like, completely cringing up.

He could barely walk. He was like passing out. And he said that he was quoted the same quote.

One night after dinner, I took a breath and nothing happened. They got an ambuLance and had me go down to good samaria for a couple of weeks. My lungs were coated with that aluminum dust.

They're been powdering on my face. Oh my god. He was blue and barely breathing when he arrived.

That's so scary. His lungs were coated with a aluminum.

Yes, he was put in an iron lung. He was in an iron lung and spent weeks in the hospital recovering. Then after that, he had spent more than a month recovering at the corona hotel.

And Sandy ago. He just lay in bed for weeks. Oh god, now this is what's not everyone at the M.

G. M. Studio producing. The film was just ve .

got past about like a lot of things back in the day.

They were actually their fault. And i'm sorry, what they were serious that he was missing filming and literally demanded him back on set that's q he was literally dying of respiratory failure in an iron log and they were calling the hospital saying he needs to be back and said.

yeah, well, he's in an iron long right now no, he can come .

to the phone right mix. It's wild and he was quoted as saying IT seemed they couldn't understand that an actor could get sick. They were furious. Marvin lauri kept, and he was like the head of the studio kept calling the hospital and saying, he can't be in bed.

He's do on set and jack don called me to tell me I couldn't possibly be sick because he had used aluminum m dust, pure aluminum m dust on my face. So they're saying you can't know it's not. They're trying to cover the rest. No, no, I can be the aluminum just because it's pure.

You're like that's actually exactly why i'm so secret.

Well, that's what's crazy. At the time they did think of paludina dust was pretty fine like they were. In fact, I found a paper published in the journal of environmental and occupational health policy.

You know, IT right. Yeah, but at night, yeah, it's really good to fall asleep. There was a period of time between about one thousand nine, forty three in one thousand and seventy nine were people who worked in mind in mines.

I almost just said miners, but I thought you guys who would confuse that and be like people under the age of what, like mine worker miners, you get IT. Now, there they were, literally forced. This is wild to be. This is such a dark thing in history. They were literally forced to inhale aluminum dust as an experimental medical treatment in a preventative measure to stop a disease of the lungs called silicosis.

So not only were they like breathing in the fumes from.

like, you know, mining.

mining, but also they're like, hey, can you sniff some of us? It's it's an .

waiting to you hear how they did IT. So silos is is a long disease that's called caused by long term inhalation, a Crystal silica st um or the particles and these are found in a lot of environmental structures like stone, rock, clay things that minors are working with.

Uh minors who were diagnosed with this would at first just find themselves having this like nasty cock all the time like some was like black I was and they would have shorten as a breath. And IT really is an diagnose for like years. Usually all i'm thinking of right now island a right when he says like cut pop, you think you just like A.

Water, just like you been in the fucking hand, you got to that. It's so good at the best. I tried not to like IT when I was kid, but but IT would be found on chest x race like years later.

So what would happen with these employers would blow this finally powdered version of aluminum dust called mcintire powder into the changing rooms of the miners. And they did this through the fucking air systems, so they would just be in their changing area. And there's a luminous dust articles being blown in through all the air .

ducks for .

experimental purposes. Now in this paper, in that journal, this paper is called trading one risk for another consequences of the unauthenticated treatment and prevention of silicosis and al miners in the macintyre powder aluminum inhalational program. Me as well, and it's by gene smart tellin lel use your daddy.

Sorry, sorry. But yeah, too really smart people that I don't link this paper so you can go legit because i'm sure you want to. In this, they talk about a guy named jim hobs. They said he was thirty seven years old for the first time that he that he tasted alumna does IT was march one thousand hundred and seventy eight low, and IT was this first a day going underground at rio algoma k to uranium mine.

Now, after changing from street clothes into his mining gear, hobs followed the other miners into a tunnel light building that LED to the cage that would transport underground for the eight hour shift of drilling, mucking and blasting. The building, dubbed the gas chAmber by those who entered IT was lined with benches, and hobs followed the routine of the others taking a seat and waiting for the cage call. Before that call came, and after the last man entered the building, the door shut at both ends, the ventilation fans stop, and the supervisor yelled what would become a familiar phase to a surreal phrase, in a surreal ritual that hobs would experience prior to every shift for the next year and a half.

Oh my god, breathe deep, boys. That's what they would yell in one hundred seventy eight. yup. The hiss of compressed airlines was quickly followed by a cloud of black dust filling the room, observing hobs z vision of all that surrounded him as he took his first breads, a very finally ground aluminum powder swelling rapidly from punching canisters attached to the airlines.

His chest felt heavy, is exposed, skinning closed, were black, a metallic taste formed in his mouth. And he soon joined the choir of puffing and gasping arising from the others. Oh god. After ten minutes, the doors opened and hobs and his shift partners were heroded into the cage. His first industrial medical treatment was over.

and he had to do .

that every day for a year. enough. What like what?

Why were they trying this?

What is gonna? Stop silicosis what? So, yeah, that's how little concerned they were by a loon in party, which is why they called the hospital.

We're like, no good. nobody. You're fine. IT was pure aluminum dust. We're not worried about IT. Thank you. And the doctors were like and the doctors were like and even the doctors were like, okay, uh, we're not like vibe with that alone when i'm dusting like all of us kind of feel like it's probably going to become a problem in a few years. yes.

If we're even ignoring if that's if he's not just being poisoned by an an iron in long, he's still having an allergic reaction to IT, like something's happening back here. And so yes, so they were like, yeah no, he can come back like, i'm sorry, that's not something that can happen nobody ABS. And because, of course you like to the studio that was absolutely my first thought.

Well, buddy absent said he didn't sue the studio because IT was a very different time and all of the studio executed in each other other's pockets, which i'm sure it's not that different than now I was. But if he had sued him, G, M, he would have been blacklisted by all other. Yeah, is a very difficult actor that point he said, quote, you didn't just so lightly, and you didn't just lightly sue. M, G, M, because IT was a power and there was a certain cohesion between the moguls. They all used to play poker together on saturday nights and decide who were the good actors and who were the Better.

And look at gene and showed her, yeah, that seen and and was like, yeah.

we don't need to call the police know that we are we are the investigators said, yeah they were a power yeah so after a few weeks of trying to get him back from like the brink of death um to then paint poison on him again and have him do IT again like that was their plan like back in the up and fuck and movie guy yes so finally they gave up because they were like, we can't wait any longer and he was really, really sick. Yeah they were like, we can't wait for you so the head of the studio, murban na roy, decided to just fire absent and he grab b jack a hay to take over as part of the ten man.

Now I I wrote if my notes now jackeline as a baby literally has nothing to do with anything else, something saying I literally just wrote my notes. I love to right myself little notes that I maybe for me ah I am giving IT to you guys. I do that sometimes too and I wrote, I just need to clear that up for myself.

I literally wrote, dad. So whatever, he also had the weird contract. That wasn't very weird then, but sounds weird now. What I said basically, and this was something that like was like I said, wasn't weird then a lot of actors and actress had this.

Basically he could be forced to play any role in the studios because he is contract, basically put him on loan to them oh, like they could just call him. But like we got a role for you get in here now you have no saying in IT oh wow. So they called them up and they didn't offer him the role.

They called him and said, hey, you're the ten man getting here. You have a choice. okay? And so we had to and the, he said, quote, the type of contract I had, I had to respond to their commands.

I had no choice. I was under contract, and they can lend me to any studio. IT was the most awful work, the most horrendous job in the world with those cumbersome M.

M. Uniforms and the hours of makeup. But I had no choice. Wow, like, you doesn't know.

saying that I love that. He was like, I fucked and he did IT.

yeah. He was like, this sucked. His costume was crazy heavy. Part of IT was like a really meddle ably, so hot, like so hot, he couldn't sit. So he would lean against this thing.

Like IT was like a board that was like specifically made for actress's and huge gowns. And course, when they couldn't sit down, they would just lean against to get any kind of relief. Oh my god, he, they had one there.

And he would just lean on IT. And actually he would do this like between shots a lot, like just to get some relief, because he literally couldn't sit and killed. And he was funny because of the guy who played the cowardly lion bird.

He said that he pissed him off because he was, his costume was so heavy, were going into his costume, or because he had costume at some dark shit too. But he said he used to pit off because he also was like an insomnia and reality. So he said he would walk by jack ali, just leaning against the board and full costume out codes between shots like he was like, that dude could fall asleep.

D and he's like, used to piss me off as, like, fuck that I look like I can need sleep like I can not only put my bed, but I just like, i'll link the book I found on this is really interesting. There's a lot of behind the scenes. So you I love that.

But so he just stepped in. He wasn't told shit about why buddy absent was fired either. Yeah because you just like in those days, you went any people got fired all the time for leg anything so we're doing just fine at the at film so you go and and and you can ask question, right? Okay, this is mine.

Uh, I guess luckily for him, they did change the way they did the makeup, which shows that they definitely knew I was, of course. And in the first place, if they made IT into an aluminum paste instead of a dust, so he won't be inhaling the dust, but you're still inhaling aluminum to some degree, to some degree. I'm sure he never had any problems.

And afterwards, but they, what they did was, they painted White, greece painted on him like clown makeup. yeah. And then they pay, they use th Epace t o t hat h ad a luminum d estiny t o p ut t hat a luminum m achine o ver h im. So IT wasn't dusted on like yeah with the way ray IT was literally dusted on.

So I was just like you like all the yeah that makes me think of like translucent .

how that's exactly what IT is yeah and you're just like, yeah cause I just gets like all over you. But unfortunately, this pace did get into his eye and IT cause a bad infection in his right eye. And he was gone for four days while they had to to save his sight. All he was going to lose site.

Did they like this to all my base product?

So while all this is going on, by the way, ray bolger er as the scare crow was also dealing with the hour of the makeup p underwear every day too because we're not like the you know of the h tb savi kind of make up here like we're not like the two thousand yeah know what we're doing. We're in nineteen thirties. They're doing what they can exactly.

And when you actually look at the make up in that, you like that's pretty good and makeup is like the scare cw looks like a burlap sack yeah is his head but IT was nearly it's not like now they have like you, they really like they have certain brushes and stuff using like substances that can take the makeup off really nice. And they would just hear that yeah and what ray bulgar of a scarer o said was, quote, I came home exhausted and had two burgin old fashions. The drinks were therapists tic.

I needed the alcohol to let me down, and they had enough sugar to kind of give me a lift so I could manage to eat my dinner and fAllen to bed. Oh, that's how they felt at the end of these days. Now, he remembers nothing else about this like these months, he said, but what? Going to bed and getting up and going to work? And half the time I don't ever remember that they were just like they were just truck and through.

And when you hear what they did to keep dorthy on task, oh yeah, there, the filming days were insane. And they were in these like a lot of people like things that dorthy dorthy, judy garland had IT like easier in the costume sense, but he did. He did. This is sense, but he had a bad .

in a different way.

Yeah, he had IT like, but they had, yeah, they had these nearly costumes that they were spending like, literally like thirteen hour days. And they couldn't take them off because they weren't willing to redo the makeup. So if you broke for lunch, you either try deed lunch and that make up if you couldn't.

Too bad oh my god, cost you. I can't imagine being and that for like thirteen hours a day.

Oh yeah and what both um ray and uh jackie lisa was called the mask wasn't porus so you could not you couldn't breathe through your skin. You don't realize how much you breathe through your skin until you can't do IT. We felt like we are suffering ating oh my god yeah he also discovered after the last tape of the film that the corners of his mouth and his chin were permanently lined from his naked.

yeah. Like he said, he took months and months for them to even fade, like the corners of his mouth were like head, like lines, like a joker make up, oh my god. And I know it's insane.

And jack li said that his costume was, quote, no less awful. They pulled my hair back as flat as they could and put some sort of rubber skin over my head and glue IT down behind my ears. They covered my face with cold cream.

Then they took a White chocolate solve and painted my face White. The idea of the White stuff was, was to lose my pores. So the silver pace that made me look like I was made of ten.

When and damaged my skin, they painted my face silver and glued on a silver nose. They grew a strip of rubber that was supposed to be ten under my chin, glued each individual rub rabbit on on my face. Then they painted my lips of black, because painting my face silver made my mouth le to red, coLoring my lip's black made my guns and tongue dollar.

I couldn't breathe through my face. None of us could. And bert laar had a worse of all.

And then, like, think of god only knows what they were using for glue, like nowadays used like liquid.

What was the thing that you use? yeah. But this was all year.

This spare like, this like, loving super go this to your face and .

rip IT off every day. Well and hail says that bert law had IT, worst of all, bottler, played the cowardly lion. yeah. That was real. Lionhead.

yeah, you told me that the other.

still not over the cowardly lions costume, was made of a real lions skin, real line. First real line hide IT was ninety pounds. And IT smelled. They said.

of course I did. yeah.

And they said, they literally smell and they're so happy to walk around in so heavy to move in. They said that he would take IT off at the end of the day and literally be draping with sweat like um um yeah and his face he had like a lot of promises ACE like he lot of know the like mouth area of the supposed like a cat so they made IT so his mouth couldn't open that god so he couldn't eat and for thirteen hours ago.

who's would .

reflection literally and they said he would literally have to eat, drink only like a milk shake or soup or something drop basically and he said that, look because if you try to do, he would break the protester and they didn't do IT so he literally couldn't eat and he would get pissed I guess like at um jack and ray for like nomber in between shots whenever they could because he literally couldn't and every once in a while he would just like get pissed and just like grab a sandwich and just like us through his make up. Any blame and .

gry is a real thing because .

these people, all of these actors, were literally like starved on set. They were not given food like they were given food. They were like told that they were fat. And like adam.

it's in saying, women, think about you're logging around a ninety pound costume all day. We literally like, your body can even cool itself down and say you're sway your super hot and then you can eat. I wonder how much wait that guy?

H, yeah, I am sure in. They said that they had to use a ton of art lighting from different studios. He gets your hacked of all of these sets and, you know and so IT is a billion degrees yeah so they would literally between shots, like run over to the doors and like, open the doors and just get fresh air and like, breed like all of those all the main for actors would literally, they said, would just be like gasping for breath outside the door.

Between shots like trying to get any kind of this is literally examine. But yes, so the currently line had a tough IT. You just only based stop in the fact that he's wearing real line for and then you can eat. It's like a seed that's ninety downs really wild.

So thirteen hours a day.

Now let's go on to some of the other makeup issues and some of the accidents that happened on the set. Yeah so the wicked, which of the west was played by Margaret hamilton? She's phenomenal.

We love her. And now let's talk about her makeup. Obviously, they've seen the movie she's Green from head to to.

Yes, Green makeup back then was made with copper occasion. He was made with copper, which is toxic. yeah.

So the make up people said that they had to be completely throw when we're moving her makeup every night before he left. Because if they left, any IT could literally be fatal. Like I can poison her.

How did you not poisoned her throughout the thirteen hour day?

Don't know. So they said, quote, every night when I was taking, this was like a makeup person. Every night when I was taking off the, which is makeup, I would make sure that her face was theories clean, spotlessly clean before you, because you don't take chances with Green so when he was burned, spoiler alert, I remember that I didn't want na take any chances.

I knew that makeup to be cleaned off. So we're going to talk about that burn situation now and how they just said, even when he was burned, we had to clean the makeup. Remember that? Oh, no, I don't want want to talk about.

So in the scene where the wicked, which of the west leaves monster land, and like a puff of in the beginning, and there's like fire and smoke, there was an accident. So IT was december twenty third, one thousand and thirty eight. They had put a false piece of yellow break road where he had to exit.

Okay, so he was to back up onto this, and he was rigging with an elevator to bring her down and out of the shot while he was lowering down. The smoke and fire would come up and obscure her going down. Now they practice this a time because he had to go backwards and hit the spot just right.

Because if the elevator went down and only one of her feet was on IT, you could, like, break her leg. yeah. So I guess the opening of that elevator shaft there was really narrow too.

So Margaret hamilton was instructed in practice a million times to bring her elbows and tight as soon as they started going down. Because if he did in SHE would literally break her on to her shoulders. And they were little. They weren't like, let's figure out a way to make that not happen. They were just like, do your best hold your elbows in because if not, you're going to break both in your shoulder like, like what? And there was also two guys waiting below in case he broke her legs coming down, they could Carry her.

So so guys.

then weirdly, those are the concerns. They're worried about her breaking her arms like her legs. But we have, like, whole last fire are going on.

But weirdly, nothing like that happened. Shouldn't break a leg or an army anything. Legs and arms are refine. In fact, the first time they did this whole shot, IT was perfect, went off without a hitch. Victor flemming, the director, was like psych. He was like, that was perfect but he said, as always, we're going to do one more shot just to have IT in the just in case oh.

no, that's when you know you.

That's when you know and this is when the shit hit the fan. So Margaret hamilton actually recalled something that Billy burke said, she's the one who plays good a Billy burke.

Okay, now SHE actually said, quote, we were about forty years away from the fire and miss burke shook her head and said, oh, i'm not going to stand here and I said, why not this bourke and he said, oh my dear, it's much too hot and I thought you're forty feet away, but i'm going to be right in the middle of IT yeah, was like a shit. Look what? So they had taken a break and when they came back to do the second shot, just the insurance shot, A A bunch of mishaps happened.

Nothing that got anybody heard at first. But things, you know, SHE wasn't hidden by the smoke. The fire happened too late. The fire didn't go off at all. IT was just like .

everything was signs from the university.

You already got your shot. You got the shot. We got the shot. Fleming, let's just let IT go. no.

SHE said, quote, and this is crazy that this is how much Victor fleming, the director, did not give a shit about these people. So SHE said, quote, and then we got to we got the full tilt of mr. Flemming impatients and anxiety in no uncertain language.

He told us to pull ourselves together and get the shot done. He said, there's no excuse for this the minute he gets her fit on, I want and I said, mr. Fleming, I want to get both feet on and he said, yes, yes, of course, but I want to shot down right right now.

Well, IT went wrong. The fire went way too early, while Margaret hamilton was not under the stage yet. So the broom got caught fire, the broom that he was holding, and IT caught her face on fire, SHE said, quote, I felt warmth on my face.

That's all. It's still unbelievable. There was a whole lot of running in hollow blue and shouting, and my hat and my broom were on fire, and I didn't even know IT SHE was later in shock.

Of course, he ended up with first degree burns on her face, mainly her chin, nose, chicken and forehead. Her eyebrows and lashes were completely burned up. Oh, SHE had second in almost third degree burns on her hands.

That was the worst part. The skin on her right hand was completely gone. IT was just raw flesh. Goodbye, just raw flesh. Now, remember that make up the toxic Green makeup thing.

Did you not like burn into her skeleton? Well, when the flesh on her hands literally peeled ed off from the burns, they still had to remove the makeup. And the only way to do that was alcohol.

no. So they had to use alcohol to scrub the toxic copper, copper oxx IDE filled Green makeup off the hands of markt hamilton. After SHE, burn the flesh clean off of them and her face.

You know how? Like when older people are like, I used to have to walk backwards up a hill to school.

every one of the of us has right to say, I did. Thank you really.

I had my hands cleaned with alcohol after suffering their degree burns and like peeling my skin bag.

SHE said. IT was the most horrific pain she's ever felt in her life. SHE was out for six weeks healing.

and then they were a.

they were on her as infect. Her doctor answered the phone once while they called her at home and he was like, you're she's an idiot. If SHE doesn't sue us, like, you sh'll get back when she's good and ready like, probably like, yeah, what do you like?

SHE said the only reason he didn't do is because he wanted to work again. He never would have a few suit, but did they have a pause filming? They did a SHE did refuse to work with fire ever again in the movie.

SHE was, I don't heard out, i'm not working with fire now. In fact, when he got back to set, SHE was due to do that skywriting scene. Yes, surrender dorthy, in which there's a band called surrender dorthy remember, like from high school? Yeah, great band name. So rentiersky so good I want to call IT ah I can't .

but good job.

guys. SHE was doing the close up because there's close up shots of like on the broom like laughing and the smoke mind like I just a scoring men and screen but IT required her to sit on a seal of steel, sadden on her broom, and I was raised up, and then smoke would pour out of the back from a pipe under the subtle this thing, I really, I wanted to do that now, he was told by everyone, this is completely safe. Don't worry about IT.

you're good. Like, when have we ever .

put you in danger before you? Ed, if you'd like, we did make you a fireproof costume. And he was like, why? Why do you make me a fireproof costume if this .

is completely safe and it's really not even a why single thing?

So so SHE was like, no. So he said he wouldn't do IT with the smoke in the fire. SHE was like, no, he said he would do the close up.

SHE was like, do the close up of my face and shit in afterwards. And he was like, I don't know what to tell you with everything else, so blame her stunt double Betty danco said he would do the rest. Now, SHE was a Young girl that point, and SHE was probably trying to.

So SHE is, i'll do anything or yeah. And he is a stunt girl also. She's like, she's done a few things like this and she's like, yes, you got to be done for anything.

But Margarett actually told her before he left set that day, he was like, i'm really worried for you. I don't want you to do IT like, I worry something's gone to happen. You're going to get hurt and know I need the money.

I don't want them to think i'm hard to work with. Well, turns out they did two good takes on the broom stick. And the third time, the pipe literally exploded under her, he said, quote, I felt as though my scope was coming off.

I guess that's because my hat and my black wag were literally torn loose. They found them days later, at the top of the stage. Oh my god, the explosion blew me off the room stick.

I managed to grab IT with both hands and thrown my leg over IT. I hung the upside down while the men handling the wires lowered the broom stick to the floor and put me face down on the stage. SHE was completely burned in her left leg, had a giant hole in where her dress had become confused, because IT was burned into this giant hole in her leg. The fuck, I want to hear what's even Better, I don't quote, while I lay there on the floor waiting the ambuLance, the warrior woman came running in and he said, what did you do with the hat? I have to turn IT in you.

Now I feel like there is a mother fucking hole in my leg, and I suggest you get the fuck away from me unless you'd like .

a matching one. I was just lit a flame. You.

what i'd really you can take the hat when you find IT and show .

IT right up your like I am bune the fire spirit from frozen two right now and you are asking me where that happened.

can you you're laying the first of faith is because I get you even have like the to put .

you she's .

I need to hand in that.

I need to turn that and you know you're going to get in trouble today. Okay, you're going to have some explaining, you know, you should say explosion for why you didn't turn. That person was exploded in the hat, I don't know.

had had literally exploded.

He had permanent scars on her legs from that, I guess. And I guess later, at some some kind of hollie wood thing, I don't know. He was like, he was like, years later, he ran into Victor flemming and he tried to look under her skirt to see the scars because he said he felt so bad. He trying to see her leg scars, because he was how bad I was.

I like what my leg exploded. So that's how bad was. So fuck tor. yeah. Like tor, get away from me.

You news. Get your bad news. okay. Now, Victor flaming, speaking of him, i'll skip head to something with him because please do he so he actually wrote and admitted to this incident.

He said, quote, when judy garland couldn't stop breaking in diggles at the suda menacing advance of bert lars, cowardly lion, so when they first meet the cowardly lying and he runs after total, yeah and then SHE wax among the nose yeah, I guess he had breaking into the gog's that's funny. And I guess bert lr. Was really funny because he looked like, like, like coming out.

So SHE kept laughing SHE. I was going to say he was literally Young and so he said in quote, he escorted her off the yellow brooke road and said, no, darling, this is serious. Slapped her in the face, then order her not go in there and work. And SHE said, IT yet happened and everyone around the set said I had happened. He literally slapped a seventeen neural girl in the face and was like, get back to work and stop laughing.

Wow, they weren't kidding when they said things were different back then.

And then he, I guess, immediately felt bad. So he started going around to the crew and asking people in the crew to punch him in the face. And so they are all like, no, because they like, i'm going to lose my job. I don't know what.

I think it's a really weird way to handle that situation. Instead, I was just like going to hurt thing. I feel really bad.

And also how many of the crew you know, he had the crews so he's literally walking up to them and they like, hi, i'm joe mr. Flaming nice to meet you. Like, I will punta e the r please budge me.

And I guess duty like, saw this happening because SHE immediately went back into the scene. The scene in the movie is exactly what happened right after he got slept. The first takes he did was the one in the movie, oh wow.

So when you see in the movie is right after SHE got girl lapped in the face by vitor fucking from, he was so big, so it's horrific. So SHE actually heard all this like that. He was walking around like asking crew members to budge of so and I guess he like overheard this and he went over to him and said, because he was like, you should just punched me in .

the face to her to which .

I would say OK do and I guess he said, I won't do that but i'll kissed your nose and he did or what a what they did duty so wrong? Yeah, they did her did her so wrong? Yeah I would a punch factor fleming street like that your time just but like what what appear and .

hold some human .

what is great who is like LED into such a shady path of life watching the movie with me? Yeah, ruin me. I mean, the real name is Francis gum, huh? No, no.

Speaking of dorthy and the horrific things, so we're done to her, judy garland had this saturday life at fourteen. He was working on her first real movie called pig skin parade. IT was like a football coach.

Sounds horrible, sure does. In the head of the studio, li Lewis, b. Mayor, I don't know it's lewi or Lewis.

but get ready, ready for the my y but .

he's a piece of shit so I literally don't care what his real name is. He would call her fat little pig in pig tails. wow.

So I don't care if it's Lewis or luis. Yeah so care. No asso.

And I tell you, mister glass house should kept his rocks to himself. Go ahead in google what he looks like. Yeah, me go.

Excuse me, glass's lube mayor. Can I think it's li? But yeah, like, go away, mister glass house. This is when he started exactly, exactly like said that. Dr, like, please turn now.

This is when he started being placed on these crazy diets of only like soup and cigarettes and all that. seriously. Now for us, the studio exact focused heavily on her weight and basically made her feeling shit that he even had boobs because he was seventeen. At this point, she's like turning into like that time when you women have boobs and now dorthy was supposed to be like a Young or girl when he supposedly like I think in the book SHE supposed be like twelve, but I think in the movie they have more around like .

fifteen .

so cast to fifteen year old that so well. And so they were like, we want you to look Younger than seventeen so obviously she's not. So they were literally documenting her food intake for months leading up to like the exact studio exec are documenting a Young girl's food intake for months .

and that is like, and obviously did, but will affect you for the rest of your life.

One hundred eating .

like stuff was .

the reason he died the way he did.

And like, developing that relationship .

with food is so danger, dangerous, so that they also capture on a steady pill schedule at this point as well. They would force her to take what they called pet pills to stay, wake math and downs, to sleep and shallow. So SHE would sleep for like four hours.

And then they would just like shake her awake for some petals down her third and make her work for, like, day street before he would crash again. Oh my god. I now, during filming of all, as he was on a diet of soup, dozens of cigarettes a day in black coffee. That's.

can you imagine her stomach?

And on top of that, they made her where crazy core sets under that dress strapped down her chest as high as they could to make IT. So SHE didn't look like he had a chest. wow. So he was. And that's like against her will like and she's sitting there having to like and it's painful and she's having to like pretend to be this like pep, like girl and yeah like I just can't .

imagine what like condition her stomach was in with all those cigarettes, coffee on like an empty stomach and .

then pills yeah my god like can you imagine how sc he felt all the time? No.

because i've had to go on like a medicine before were like like, like I I broke my palace and then to put behind morphine yeah and you like you couldn't eat. And I was the sickliest I have ever been. I can't imagine having to be in that state while doing a movie where I was .

also just being treated like, yeah I like when I had whatever pain pill they gave me after like that my first c section, I took one of them and I was like, so so sick. I like, I never taking that like, wow, you could not handle that because I ve just usually I really got pretty good tolerance, like I say, really good one. And so I usually can get like if something hurt i'll take like I add, bill, yeah and it's like that usually is fine for me.

But this I was like, I just got cut open. Maybe I should. My god, again, this is not worth the sickness.

I feel we had to go back to the doctors and I was like that and we were like, you, yeah, I can't take this. They had me take a half and even a half. I was still like, I I was like, they just give me motor and afterworld. And I like that. I can yeah but on top of all of this with judy garland um some of the actors who played some of the characters in munch and land they were like sexually assaulting her on set good yeah um in her husband one of her husband's leaders said, quote, they would make duties life miserable and set by putting their hands under her dress the men were more than forty years old at .

that point and she's seven.

Ym SHE gives just turning seventeen rose and she's like made to look like a child and that like way Younger and yes, I just really messed up and I get I do um from what I read though I guess the three guys like the the lion tent man and scare crow, we're like super protective of and they were all like good dudes and none of them did anything like that and they were like really tight as like a little unit like a school.

Yeah so that's nice to know. At least he had SHE had the comfort, some kind of protection there. But another thing that's really crazy about this is if you've seen, if you remember the poppy scene, yeah we're the wicked.

Which of the west causes them to fall asleep in the pub pub? Um well, lucky for them blindness, the counter spell during that that cause a snow to fall, they will wake up. Unfortunately, Linda was like kinder that maybe he was the bad guy here, because the snow that fell was one hundred percent asbestos. 哦 yeah。

Hey, weirdos, i've got the scoop on this amazing skinkers product that's onna. Honestly, be a total game changer for you. Many of you already know and love drunk elephant just as much as I do.

And guess what? They just launched to see luma hydrogen ate serum, a gentle ten percent hydrated vitality sea syren that brightens hydrates, improved gallery and reduces blemishes. It's so funny because I literally got a facial the other day, and the girl who did my facial recommended this product to me.

So I started using IT immediately, and I really do feel so hydrated. I definitely can tell that it's brightening. IT just looks really, really nice on my skin, and IT feels so good, especially in these dyer winter months.

Drunk elephant sea luma herbert serum is ideal for those who are sensitive to traditional vitamin cy formulas, plus you can use IT day and night. I use IT twice a day, and I do have very sensitive skin, and IT has not bothered me at all. Discover c luma great serum and drunk elephant dot com.

Now this was the one thousand nine hundred thirties, and asbestos was actually used in Christmas decorations then, like fake. Now what? But still, this is wild to know. Now, yes, especially when you watch IT, you're just like, oh, that's just straight up a space and it's all over their faces, all over everything.

They're literally like in their mouth, like it's they're it's funny because I read one of the articles I read was on atta sub score and they put IT best by saying the words that have as quiteria doused its main characters and car core literally what IT does and when you watch the scene you're just sitting everything like poison yeah that's just very poison. Are all being doused ant poison. Ww.

all about us.

And a last little that were last big thing that i'll touch upon, which is the kind of the satish thing to me but i'll leave you on like, well, no, i'm going to leave you on a said, no, i'm sorry but i'll give you a couple things after this but the woman who played on TM, who on T. M. And until Henry, you're just like, I love you q is so much.

Her name was clara blended and he was famous. SHE was like on broadway in tons of movies. Yeah, this was actually one of her like smallest roles. But like SHE took IT because he just loved the movie and they loved having her name on IT. Now SHE after the visit of oz was in like fAiling health.

IT was like through the thousand nine hundred and fifties and he was going blind um SHE was the victim of severely painful arthritis all over her body and they couldn't get in under control back then. Just quick to this is like a suicide trigger this is gna be a minute where i'm going to talk about IT so April fifteen, one thousand nine hundred and sixty two, SHE returned to her home after church SHE placed photos and letters and momentous from her career. All around her, SHE surrounded herself with newspaper clippings of her career, her wards movie credits.

SHE got dressed in a royal blue gown, SHE did her hair and he took sleeping pills. And SHE laid on the couch with a gold blanket over her and play a plastic bag over her head. Oh, wow.

SHE passed away that way. And SHE left a note that said, quote, i'm now about to make the great adventure. I can not under this an organizing pain any longer.

It's all over my body. Neither can I face the impending blindness I pray the lord, my soul to take. Man, oh, apparently she's buried very close to charlie grape when who played uncle Henry? Her her husband? Oh yeah.

Other I don't know, but it's like a nice little like, but how sad is that? Like, SHE. And he had this beautiful, amazing career.

Yeah, can I say something weird? It's like beautifully sad, like the way that he did IT. I'm like i'm glad that he .

was able to like, take control of the in control of IT that was wanted to do. But I had no other it's such a bomber that like medical stuff is kind of so far and I hadn't come that far to relieve her of any of that thing because I can't imagine chronic. There's just making people I obviously have never really yes, watching people go through that I can imagine, yeah, I really can't. And to have IT all .

over your body.

yeah, I hope you did a great advice. Have a blair. That one really? I know. thanks. I know. I'm sorry.

Do you have anything good? I guess this just shows you how close like the three men Carried like the raybold jer and bert law and jacket liver when I think ray was the last one to pass away out of all of them um and when jack eli died he gave eulogy at his funeral and he said, jack, it's going to be a very loans. It's going to be very lost on the yellow break road.

Now that's how close they were and just to leave you and like not the statistic notes, but more like while Margaret hamilton get IT OK the wicked, which is lions, most of them were cut and a lot of her scenes were cut from the final film because exec and groups said the performance was way too terrifying. They said, kids literally couldn't like some merger felts and just scared this. He was like, that's what I was hired for. So she's only on screen for like fifteen minutes in the film, but he had tons more all that and was like, really, really like he was terrified.

I wish they had like the diversion, like where they could have released that first.

I know i'm like, can we have her deleted and see her scary? Yes, seen for real. But they could ever uncovered them someday.

I know, I wonder, I think that there, who knows how they are? Not even sure. Sure, I know, let's find out.

But that is some of the dark secrets I found about the l about, but about the ways that of voice and how fucked up the film mingus. Wow, that was a really entertaining said definitely is curse that I feel I feel like I it's a lot. I feel like i've never going to watch that.

We've be the same with child. You watch IT to get like you watch with the different. You exploded, yeah, had to go to the hospital. You almost went blind. But you did this for in the second half of the film.

I even looked to see this, but Margaret hamilton wearing Green gloves instead of Green makeup, because he could, even when he came back, IT hadn't healed enough that you would pay make up on. So he had to wear gloves on her hand. Oh, wow.

And I want to look for IT. The next. I do two. yeah. Cause I guess he also said that, like Victor flaming grabbed her hand when he came back and was like, IT looks good and he was like, no, that's like freshly healed skin like that looks pretty but not the field to do anything and like that's .

how nice forming sounds like the worst and said everybody had asked .

to punch in the things actually in the world but yeah that's the dark ship about the of oh and just like because I people might be wondering ah because this is big legend that one of the actors who played one of the munchies like hung themselves in a tree answer see at the original part of the film, completely untrue.

What people were seeing was a bird that they had on set that life puts its wings up in kindly ks like IT and people have photo shopped an actual hanging person in there it's not true IT didn't happen or is what? Yeah, there's no I mean, there's absolutely no evidence or no police. And I was going to say nothing.

We know all the other horrific things about, yes, I do what leaked out, but it's still in a very enduring rumor because everything I was reading, every time I would like peak over at comments of IT like like, you know little movies about IT or books or anything, there was always a million people being like, well, someone hang themselves on the set. Like that is an enduring rumor, people really believe. And I did, I did for a while when that I first came out.

I was Young, and I remember trying to see IT. I was like, what is like? And you could see the bird. And I remember doing, like, is that? But it's not yeah, yeah.

I remember definitely hearing that I never looked forward though yeah that didn't happen now at least not that you can find anywhere that's ttl that I didn't yeah but everything else in this so relaxed for that yeah it's a fuck down movie but I thought I might be you know, it's a holiday week. We're just going to give you this weird, weird off episode. They are still spooky, but like in a different way.

Yeah, humans are weird. They certainly are. You know, I really enjoyed that.

That was as a episode. Yeah, I just wanted do something little different. Yeah, I like, hope you guys stuck and to show go .

off my german well, we hope that you keep listening .

then we hope you keep IT.
