So now of course, the big question is, will this new variant cause a big surge in cases like omicron did? And it's hard to say because we have a lot less surveilLance now than we did in the past, but we do have a lot more immunity in the population than we did back when omicron.

I keep hearing about a new booster shut on the way. When have ready?

yes. So the fda and cdc are expected to clear the new booster in the coming weeks. Scientists are evaluating right now how well I will work against this new variant by administration officials told reporters they expect IT wilbur ls to protection against severe disease, but we don't know yet how well I will protect against infection. Oh, and if you're wondering when to get boosted for most people, experts say that makes sense to wait a bit for the new booster. And then this year the parliament pass legislation that included the death penalty for so called aggravated homosexuality, says, they said, that is defined as same sexy relations with someone who is hip positive, or a child, an elderly person or a disabled person. Our africa .

Well, in may, president, a very musawi ani, he passed an extreme new bill, which included up to twenty years in prison for so called promotion of L G B C Q S people. So really coming down on advocates and even journalists in uga anda, who are happen to be careful about how they cover this because they are being seen to promote IT. And it's important to stress that's an important driver of this.

Bill is not just is not really mainstream society in uganda, but activism by local conservative groups like the church. And they are backed by external actors, including U. S. evAngels. Good write wing groups.

Okay, the man we talked about earlier, what do we know about his case?

Well, we know he is a twenty year old man. H, he's been arrested. Uh, we managed to get in touch with his lawyer, Justin bailer, and he said he is the first person to be charged for aggravated homosexuality.

SHE told us he's being charged for having, quote, sexual contact with someone with the disability of the same sex. We don't know what the disability is or really much. How about the case until more details? Emerging court, you know, uganda hasn't executed someone for decades, but if he's convicted, it's gonna that recent precedents to the test. And this is what he had to say.

For me, the real problem isn't so much what the penalty is Carry. That is gift. It's just what the best penalty means for procedure. He's going to have remain in prisons, custody, regard lessons, his innocence, just because of the charge on the file.

wow. The world bank emanual says they're gonna stop offering loans to uga and the U. S. Is imposed travel bands on some officials. But what's likely to be the impact of some of these actions.

And it's one where the ugandan government essentially showing that, and you can an authorities are showing that this this law is not just talking, it's it's one, it's onna have a material effect on sexual minorities in uganda.
