The race is on. And the question is, are they going to pull Joe Biden with Kamala Harris or somebody else? Joining us now is Chris Bedford, super smart from Blaze Media. And he's a senior politics editor, D.C. correspondent for the Blaze. Reality check. You can't just switch candidates. I always look to Christopher Bedford to sober us.

Oh, it's great to be here. The Democrats have basically been running from reality for a couple of years now. Back in 2020, they were running from the reality of how far left their party had gone. And because of that, they ended up nominating Joe Biden, who was basically no one's first choice. He wasn't Barack Obama's first choice. He wasn't the party's first choice. He wasn't the activist's first choice. But they had to square the fact that, well, he's an old white guy and they've been running against them for years. So then they had to add Kamala Harris to that. And he ended up with a campaign that

It wasn't anyone's first choice, but they decided they could run it against Donald Trump. Now they're, after four years of running from the reality of obvious cognitive decline by their candidate, they finally had to acknowledge after the debate that this was something that could not be hidden anymore. And there's a panic and they're running for fantasy yet again, except this time it's going to be a whole lot more complicated. You hear people like Michelle Obama floated or Hillary Clinton or Gavin Newsom or Whitmer out in Michigan.

These candidates can't simply be swapped in. And there's a couple things that are holding them back. One, the Biden's grip on power. They have a lot of folks in that campaign that all their access to power, all their access to influence, all their access to money is based on defending Joe Biden. Two, the federal election, federal finance, election finances. They're

There are actually rules on this. The money that's been raised for Joe Biden can't simply be given out to other campaigns. There are limits on that. That's a huge sticking point. So what Democrats are actually going to be faced with, and we're starting to start to see break today from James Clyburn and others, influential Democrats in the House,

is that Kamala Harris is the only other choice, aside from Joe Biden, that at least wouldn't completely torpedo the Democrats' media strategy and campaign buying strategy. Yeah, so I want to play this tape again. We played it before, and it's worth repeating. It's James Clyburn, and you mentioned it. It's cut 64, where he says, well, you know, it's for Joe or for Kamala, or they're a good one-two combo. Now, to your point, though, Christopher, the money stays if Kamala Harris becomes the nominee because it's a joint ticket.

So if she becomes the nominee, that war chest goes untouched. So that's an argument in Kamala Harris's favor. Let's play cut 64. How would you feel if there is a decision for him to step down, if he decides that and he has to decide that or if the party pressures him to do that? How would you feel if they worked around and tried to go around Kamala Harris because of her lack of high poll numbers and popularity and broadly based popularity?

Do you think it's hers to have if it is not his? I will support her if he were to step aside. But I want to support her going forward at some time in the future. I want this ticket to continue to be Biden-Harris. And then we'll see what happens after the next election. No, this party should not in any way do anything to work around Biden.

Ms. Harris. We should do everything we can to bolster her, whether it's in second place or at the top of the ticket. Well, that is a narrative change, Christopher. Tell us. You know, Clyburn's important in this situation. He's the reason that Joe Biden was probably the Democratic nominee and is now the president in the first place. People who went down, including myself, right as COVID was starting to hit and shut things down, went down to South Carolina for the primary.

We're wondering if this was gonna be the last stop on the road for Joe Biden. He'd done poorly in Iowa, he'd done poorly in New Hampshire. James Clyburn came out and basically said, we don't want these other radicals out there. Joe Biden's our guy. Now, of course, Joe Biden is governed as radical as anyone on that stage ended up promising to, but he's the reason that Joe Biden ended up getting that win and then going to Super Tuesday and hitting it out of the park for the Democrats after that.

So his voice carries a lot of power in this. And it also shows that there's been a lot of kind of tinkling around the edges and people talking about, well, could we skip this black woman over? Could we skip this South Asian woman over with all the race politics that they put at the center of the Democratic Party?

And they've been kind of hoping that maybe they could, because even though Joe Biden might be a gently alive corpse, Kamala Harris is probably one of the least popular people in the country next to Mitch McConnell. That's right. Her appearance at the Black Entertainment Television Awards this week was a disaster. She doesn't actually connect with black voters in any way. When Gavin Newsom was in trouble and facing a recall in California, they didn't even ask her to come back and campaign for him in California. Right.

That's how unpopular she is. But James Clyburn coming out and saying he's going to support her. Well, that is also a warning shot to Democrats who might want to put Gavin Newsom or some other white person at the top of this ticket that they can't so easily skip over Kamala.

So, Christopher, I want to reiterate that. How unpopular is Kamala Harris? If they switch it out, in fact, there are certain demographics where Democrats will do far worse with, for example, older voters and white working class voters if Kamala Harris actually ends up being the nominee.

And I wonder how well she even really connects with the black population that she's supposedly supposed to be a mascot for. If you see her campaign ad she cut at the BET Awards, she's sitting there and she's talking in this street parlance, but she got completely mocked for it because it's not at all how she talks in real life. But she's not talking about issues that affect black

Black grandmothers or black mothers or black children or people who are dealing with these different issues here in Washington, D.C., where I live, where there's a huge problem of absent fathers. There's a huge problem with drugs. There's huge problems with crime. There's problems with jobs. She was out there instead talking about basically white college professor garbage, whether it's transgenderism or the most recent access to the pill and things like that. Those aren't the issues that are actually happening.

impacting the black community at the same level, but she's not a really great candidate to go out there and reach out to them. Now, CNN's got a poll out right now where they're claiming that she would actually be the best person, even better than Joe Biden. But I don't think the Democratic Party is quick to believe that.

Yeah, and there's there's there are a lot of elements that go into this. So if they were to switch it out, if they were to say, Kamala, you're the one she doesn't become president. So she's running for president as vice president. So Joe Biden would effectively finish out his term. They'd have to figure out a vice president. But all this comes back to Joe Biden has to relinquish his delegates, doesn't he has to release them.

Yes, although the Democratic delegates get more freedom to do that sort of thing than Republicans do. Republican delegates are largely, except for the superdelegates, committed based on how their states voted. Democrats, as I understand, the convention is a lot more freewheeling. At the end of the day, you still really would need Joe Biden's blessing on this whole thing, or you risk just a massive civil war walking right into the election. And the Democrats here, their point is not to get rid of Joe Biden. They don't really care. They don't have

I don't think they've ever really cared that much about Joe Biden or to put Kamala Harris in president. The point for them is to defeat Donald Trump. So a Democrat civil war at the top would be a disaster. And if they tried to get him to step down, maybe even within the next week himself as the presidential nominee before this convention and put Kamala Harris up there, where you're going to start to see Republicans start clamoring and saying, well, if Joe Biden is not mentally fit to run for president, then how is he mentally fit

to be president. And they're going to try and push Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment and actually take his place.

Now, I don't think she's ever actually going to do that. But this sort of floor fight would force Democrat after Democrat to come to the floor of the House and the Senate and talk about how the person who they don't think is capable of even running for president should still have the nuclear codes. And I also think that if that happens, we won't see that much of Joe Biden going forward. If he's not running for reelection in the end, his White House days of even a lot of public ceremonies will probably draw to a close.

Christopher, fill us in on coming convention. That is two weeks away. Can you believe it, that the RNC is two weeks away?

I can't. I was just looking at my calendar, looking, trying to plan out the month, and I realized, holy smokes, I'm leaving just a week from Sunday. But a lot of folks are getting in there early, and those are the folks who are going to be hammering out what the party's platform is. The Republican Party hasn't had a platform change in eight years. Usually you kind of want to update it from time to time. For example, the 2016 platform has a whole lot in it about how they don't like Barack Obama. That's not really that important when you're running in 2020.

But they use the excuse of COVID to say, and the lack of a convention to say, we're just not going to do party platform this time around. But in 2024, we're in for some changes, actually some really dangerous changes. There is a push coming from the Trump campaign in particular to try and get the pro-life language in the platform out.

Now, the 2016 platform was about as bold as any Republican platform that had ever been on the pro-life issue. But in the years since, despite being a historic president for getting some of the, for example, for helping to repeal Roe v. Wade, the relationship between Trump and a lot of the pro-life groups is really soured.

And he says that they weren't there to back him up. And he blames them for some of the election losses that he had. He's really walked kind of a careful line these past couple of months. I think one that's not really angered too many people. It's allowed his pro-life supporters to really stay on. But in the convention, the strong rumor going through the panic phone calls and text messages I've been getting is that there's going to be a move to really simplify the platform and in the process potentially take that out entirely.

And maybe in a better case, just water it down. So what is your role? What do you think is a way to try to make sure we are still clearly in the I'm 100% pro-life direction?

that there's a pro-life declarative statement in the platform committee. What would success look like in that regard, in your opinion? I think you need to make some noise here. Now, remember, Ronald Reagan made fun of the party platforms as something that not a lot of people read, and he's generally right. But the platform serves a couple of important notices. For example, churches, which aren't legally allowed to talk about politics, of course, some of them do anyways, aren't actually allowed to endorse candidates. They aren't

They are allowed within the IRS rules to talk about party platforms. The moral majority really made a lot of hay out of this, where even with their nonprofit status over the years, they would just send out snippets of the Democratic Party platform next to snippets of the Republican Party platform and let them speak for themselves as a way to really influence voters.

Right now, Donald Trump has a Republican Party that is completely unified behind him. The Never Trumpers have either come around or are gone. There's very, very few people who are intending to stay home, and that's shown in the polls. If you read the morning newsletters coming out of D.C., there's panic amongst the Democrats over just trying to send their money to the – even just triage to the House of Representatives and maybe give up on the – holding the Senate for the Democratic Party.

So that makes no sense for the Republican Party to want to actually divide some of the activist base here. And while I do think there are a lot of folks who would end up coming around and voting for Donald Trump on this, he would tick off a huge amount of his activists. There are definitely people who would stay home if he ended up doing this and

And at the end of the day, it's also not going to bring Democrats over. Nothing's going to stop Kamala Harris or Joe Biden or whoever the nominee ends up being from running ads saying that Donald Trump wants to take away the pill and take away condoms, take away contraception, stop abortion. They'll do that regardless. So it's really only negative. I think the best way to kind of make some – to change this is to make a lot of noise about it. Usually –

Thanks to the efforts of the late Phyllis Schlafly, there's been press and media in these rules and platform hearings. This year, there's a rumor that it's going to be closed. Tony Perkins is trying to do everything he can to make it open again. Once those doors get closed, if there's no pressure from media, no pressure from activists, no visibility, well, that's where the kind of swampy things happen, like removing pro-life.

So, I mean, do you think it's conceivable that like pro-life is removed completely or that just I would find that hard to believe that that would end up happening? I think the most likely at this point is it's watered down. Maybe it's changed from an overtly pro-life platform, the one that is critical of the Democrats stance on late term abortion or something like that.

That's kind of where a lot of folks, some of the new folks, newer folks with the MAGA movement maybe outside of more social conservative traditionalists do want to take it. And it's a danger very much politically for the pro-life movement. So if they were capable of stripping this and they were able to do it,

And right now, they have the votes. LaCivita has talked about how he's basically got control over two-thirds to three-quarters of the delegates who are going to be actually voting on this. They're going to do whatever the president really says. The RNC hasn't got their finger on this. It's what President Trump wants.

If he were to strip it and he were to win, then a lot of other candidates that may have come up on his coattails are going to see that and probably try to follow it. It's going to be a pretty big danger to social conservatives. But there still are 20 to 30 delegates right now who are quietly talking about how they want to push back and maybe just get watered down language and just keep a foothold.

Hunter Biden has joined meetings with Biden, President Biden, his top aides this week at the White House. For people familiar with the matter, tell my colleagues who are told the reaction from some senior White House staff is, quote, what the hell is happening? Just one quick note before I get to Jeff here. Have you noticed that there's been no reporting of the Biden White House for four years? And now we're learning who's in meetings and who's moving around the place. There has been no reporting.

They have not even, who's running the White House? No one cares. But now all of a sudden we get intimate details of Camp David and leaking and staffers and colleagues at Hunter Biden's Senate tables. Joining us now is Jeff Webb, a great American CEO of the Human Events Media Group. Of course, you know, Jack Posobiec and the great group there. Jeff, welcome to the program. Hey, Charlie, great to be with you.

Jeff, I want your reaction to the debate. And also, you know, you and I were texting. I meant to have you on before the debate, and you were worried about CNN. We were worried about the fairness. Both of us, I totally agreed. I was actually kind of blown away by how CNN handled the debate. Your reaction, Jeff? Yeah, I agree. The moderators were more moderate than I thought they would be. I think maybe there were a few little extra, you know, snippets for Biden and a few things. But all in all, I thought they did a pretty good job. I thought it was pretty fair.

Yeah. And it was interesting to see. I mean, like, you know, Dana Bash was she followed up a couple of times, but generally they didn't interject too much. It wasn't like Chris Wallace, who just tried to dominate the entire debate. And so your reaction post debate here, Jeff, on the political dynamics and President Trump's performance. And I want to play some of the tape actually from the debate. Yeah.

Yeah, well, I thought that, first of all, I think President Trump did a very good job. He was relaxed, very much in tune with the issues. He had a good knowledge base, communicated well.

I thought he did a great job. I thought Biden was obviously very rehearsed. He started every answer with he's a liar or, you know, the very idea of this outrage, right? You're exactly right, Jeff. What was the very idea that was like programmed into him? Everything he was saying, the very idea, the very idea. You're exactly right. Please continue.

Well, and again, how many times, let's go back and count how many times he called Trump a liar. I mean, just things that don't come across as the right kind of image, certainly not very presidential. I think that, again, you and I were talking about the risk that President Trump had because he already had momentum going into the debates and there seemed to be more downside. And we were also afraid that the moderators would be more dominant, which they weren't. So I think Trump clearly won the debate.

I think the polls are showing it. I thought that Biden might, things might even out a little bit. People quit talking about replacing him after a couple of days, but seems to be picking up steam. So there's something that's going to happen. The Democrats are in a real box here. They can't, you know, they kind of can't lose. I can't win any way they go.

And what's been remarkable to see is how many liberal donors are shocked by this. I want to first play this montage. If you were paying attention, Jeff, you and I have talked about this for quite some time, and Human Events has done such a great job of covering this, is the mental decline. I mean, I've dealt with family members that have had some form of mental slip or dementia or Alzheimer's or a mixture of both.

It is a sad thing. And it accelerates very quickly, by the way. Months can be years with this disease and this sickness. I want to play this. If you were paying attention the last couple of years, you would have saw this. Play cut 46. I said I'm going to be a president of everybody whether they live in a red state or a green state. I, uh, um, anyway, I don't want to, I don't want to. Making Roe v. Wade.

The best way to get something done, if you hold it near and dear to you, that you like to be able to... Anyway. Putin's kleptocracy... Yeah. $159,000 billion lead. America is a nation that can be defined in a single word. I was going to put him... What am I doing here? One, two...

Jeff, if we were paying attention the last year, we saw that. Your reaction, Jeff, on how did liberals... What's your theory, Jeff? So you hang around a little more liberals than I do. Did they not know or did they just live through denial? Jeff, help me understand.

Yeah, well, I think that I don't know how they couldn't know. And it's really painful to watch when you put the whole sequence together of all those isolated events. But I think it's been obvious. But I mean, let's face it, the left gets a free pass from the media. They're always making excuses. Imagine if that had been Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis or anybody that's conservative. They would have been skewered.

So I think it's a combination of people not wanting to believe it, hoping that it could be could be controlled. I mean, listen, let's go all the way back to the to the last election and Biden hiding in the basement. I mean, this started a long time ago. It just it has just picked up steam. You're exactly right. It's accelerating at such a rate that it's it's impossible for anybody to ignore it. It's there.

Check it out right now. What I think is the buried lead here is how Democrats in the days leading were defiant and they were insistent that Biden was fine. This is the shot chaser. One Biden bluster.

Two, Democrats insisting you're the problem. It's a cheap fake, deep fake. Play cut 47. He is sharp, intensely probing, and detail-oriented and focused. This is a man who is sharp, who is on top of his game, who knows what's going on. This guy's tough. He's smart. He's on his game. His mental acuity is great. This is a very sharp president. This is a man that's on his game. President Biden is absolutely amazing.

There's not a problem. He's sharp. He's fit. He's always answering questions. He is on the ball. He was sharper than anyone I've spoken to. He is sharp. He is on top of things. There's no doubt in my mind that the president is mentally fit for office. Biden has proven himself to have a strong memory. He's completely mentally sharp. He's at the top of his game. They've been covering for him, Jeff Webb.

Totally. And does anybody believe now that in those small meetings, cabinet meetings, private meetings, that you had some, a person who was completely different? You could, you could also, by putting those clips together, you could hear the talking points. Sharp seemed to be the word that everybody was being encouraged to use. You could tell that, but yeah, I don't, I don't know how they walk that back. I mean, it's just,

It's too fresh on everybody's mind that how people were covering for him is, you know, the members of his party, but also the media, the same thing. So it's but it can't be hidden anymore. It's finally crossed that threshold. It's reached that point where they're going to have to deal with it.

And I do believe the Democrats are they're very divided about this. You saw James Carville's comments and that, you know, the people have told us what they want and we're not giving it to them. This is a perfect example that people don't want someone in this position that has this kind of impairment.

And there's another component of this, which is very important. If they're going to pull Joe Biden for Kamala Harris, we must remind people Kamala Harris has been a terrible vice president overseeing the border, overseeing. And then, of course, Kamala Harris and Tony Blinken were involved in the Ukrainian stuff. Do not forget that Kamala Harris was dispatched.

to the Munich Security Conference before Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, and she said Ukraine is a potential candidate to join NATO.

Kamala Harris is just as much to blame for the bloodshed in Ukraine as Joe Biden. That is an unexploited attack vector. I thought Donald Trump did well on this. I think he could do even better in saying, Joe Biden, you are the minister of death and destruction. Every place around the world is now a new endless war. Your reaction, Jeff?

Well, I think, you know, I've discussed Ukraine a number of times, the sort of thing you've got to be very careful about commenting on. But I think that if you really look into it and believe that we have something, we have some fault, some liability in, I think, being too aggressive to the Russians. And if they needed an excuse for this to be a matter of defense, she certainly gave it to them.

I mean, to have NATO not close to your border, but on your border, I think it gave Putin the perfect excuse to go in. But I do think that... Yeah, look, I mean, Putin is to blame for the invasion. We're morally clear on that. But Kamala Harris and the American government, sometimes you play into these narratives and you play into that. And we should all want a brokering of peace.

Who could be against peace at this point? Who could be about an end to all the killing? All right, Jeff, I want to play. We got an email here from one of our listeners, Pam. And she says, my husband, 40 years, 40 years had Alzheimer's. I lost him in April. And it reminds what she's what they're seeing so much with.

Joe Biden with that. And some days were good, some days were bad, but it declines very quickly. Our team, good job, Ryan, and good job, Andrew, and the whole team. And Emma and Riley, they do a great job putting this together. Joe Biden in 2020 versus 2024. And we were critical of Joe Biden's mental acuity back in 2020. It is not the same man. Play cut 70.

What I would do is make sure we have everyone encouraged to wear a mask all the time. I would make sure we move in the direction of rapid testing, investing in rapid testing. I would make sure that we set up national standards as to how to open up schools and open up businesses so they can be safe. He says that we're, you know, we're learning to live with it.

People are learning to die with it. You folks home will have an empty chair at the kitchen table this morning. What I would say is I'm going to shut down the virus, not the country. It's his ineptitude that caused the virus, caused the country to have to shut down in large part. Health care, elder care, making sure that we continue to strengthen our health care system, making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person healthy.

Jeff, your reaction to that remarkable tape? Well, again, you said it, the acceleration. That last, that very last clip is, I think it's difficult to watch for anybody.

and how you how you can't look at that see someone who really um who who has lost a lot who's unable to sort things out and speak clearly and have clarity of thought and

People are too focused on what that's gonna mean for the election. People should really be focused on what happens as they say, when that phone rings at 3:00 AM and there's some kind of geopolitical crisis and he has to make the decision. We should all be very, very concerned about that.

And I think the people around him are doing the country a disservice by not being honest about it. Be transparent. Come out and say, here's the problem. Here's what it is. We think it's under control. They can make a statement, but they have to be honest. And obviously they haven't been.

I wore my Trump mug shirt t-shirt that I bought from the Charlie Kirk shop to Lifetime Fitness. I've always worn the Trump type shirts to the gym and usually get screamed at, but today I did not. I had multiple side smiles. No one came up to me, but I also didn't get some on my face. It seems the tides are turning in Austin.
