Now's a good time to remember where tequila's story truly began. In 1795, Cuervo invented tequila. Cuervo. What are you doing here? Cuervo. Anytime someone says Cuervo, I show up. Well, I do know that to be true, but even during an ad reads like... Cuervo. I think he could lay out, especially for one of our great partners. Sweet, delicious Cuervo. Since then, Cuervo has stayed true to its roots. The same family, the same land, the same passion. Cuervo. So, enjoy the tequila that started it all. Cuervo. Cuervo.

Cuervo. Tequila. That invented tequila. Proximo. Cuervo.com. Please drink responsibly. It might be a good place to find your zen. Discover top brands at unexpectedly low prices. Sierra, let's get moving. This is the Dan Levitar Show with the Stugatz Podcast. So that was interesting, right? Because you could hear those seeds coming.

Being planted of what ultimately would become the ethos of Trump's run to the presidency, which is, yeah, who cares if what I'm saying isn't true as long as the people agree with me. Birtherism, who cares? There are plenty of people who are happy I'm asking the question. And that basically became what Trump's run to the presidency would ultimately become. And it's pretty wild to hear the seeds of that be planted on Trump.

On the Dan Lebiton Show with Stu Gatz. I'm laughing so I don't cry. That was 2013 through the local hour and the big suey. What you're going to hear now is a longer, full session of an interview from...

September of 2014. So September 18th, 2014. If you want to look up what the NFL controversies were around that time, you pause this right now and go try to look that up. You'll hear what Trump has to say as he also discusses his friendship with Roger Goodell, all the credit he believes he deserves for the success of the USFL,

Why he didn't like shaking hands because I kid you not from Mr. COVID vaccines don't need to exist. He didn't want to catch a cold. Also playing golf with Michael Jordan, the quote, terrific guy, Bill Clinton. This one only gets stranger. So here's the follow-up interview. September 2014. I would say enjoy, but I don't know.

Why did they make me do this?

Joined now by a return visitor, Donald Trump with us on ESPN Radio. Last time we talked to him, we thought he was going to buy the bills. He did not buy the bills. Why did you not buy the bills? Well, I love NFL. I love football. I put in a bid, and I guess the NFL released it. It was a billion dollars, which was a nice high price, but somebody else paid a lot more money than that. You'll have to speak to them as to why. And I said, I'll pass because, you know, a billion dollars is a lot of money. And...

Yeah, I think it's going to be very interesting. But after looking at everything, I decided not to up my bid. So let's see what happens. It was very important to me that the bills stay in Buffalo, and now they will. So that was a big portion of why I even bid in the first place. Let's say Donald Trump was hypothetically the owner of the bills. Everything going on in the NFL right now, you would be saying and doing what when it comes to Roger Goodell?

well look i like roger rogers a person that i like a lot he's a friend of mine and i think that that's why i think probably the owners even though you know we have a u_s_ f_l_ question with me and uh... what a lot of people don't know about the u_s_f_l_ is that i came in long after the league had opened and the league was failing and when i came in i made the league hot

And I should get credit for that. But, of course, then I took Lawrence Taylor and I sold him back to the Giants for a million dollars. I would say they weren't thrilled with that. You should get credit. But I would say Roger would have been very happy to have me. I would say a couple of things. Getting back onto the field, I would say you've got to stop with the flags. It's horrible what's going on. Every play is a flag game.

And half of the times they're looking and they very, you know, you watch the announcers. But that's not the controversy that he's in the middle of right now. Like that, he's got a bigger controversy on his hands. No, no, no. I'm just saying, I think the game is very important and I think the flags and I also think tackles. I mean, people, Ray Nitschke

and Dick Butkus and these guys wouldn't be allowed to play football nowadays. So I think that's a real problem. I think that's going to be a big problem. All the flags and the good tackles. You know what used to be a great tackle. Today you get suspended from football. That's a problem. The other stuff is certainly hurting them and potentially hurting their brand very badly. It's got to stop.

Donald Trump with us here on ESPN Radio. If you were the commissioner of the NFL, would Adrian Peterson, Greg Hardy, guys like that, would they be playing football right now, Donald?

Well, you have to look at individual cases. I mean, as an example, in the Rice case, you know, she was knocked out. She was unconscious, and there was pretty bad stuff took place in the elevator. And then I hope that Roger never saw, and I would certainly take his word for it, but, you know, you have to hope that Roger never saw the interior of the elevator and what took place because he said he didn't. But...

but that was not a very hard fine and he got a lot of fake he actually admitted that himself any he apologized as far as uh... peterson is concerned great player and you know it depends on exactly what happened that's what you have to take a look at i've heard a lot of people saying today you have over the years i've known people that are good parents but this bankers they spank

and you know seventy percent of people they says or poll where seventy percent i happen not to be a spanker uh... if you've opted did something wrong i was never spanker but there are spankers you know there's a tremendous group of people and i don't mean beaters i mean spankers is a vast difference

And you'd have to look in the Peterson case. You know, I met him. I was on a big television show, and he was on the same show, and I met him about a month ago. And what a nice guy he was. He was great. And it's so sad to see, but he's a big star, and they're going to have to see what happens. Here's the thing about Adrian Peterson. Famously, he has a death grip of a handshake. Famously, you refuse to shake hands, correct? Correct.

well i did take a stand and i do i really don't refuse to shake heads but of course everyone knows that i'm right because you catch calls you catch clues you catch all sorts of things by shaking hands but if you're living in the society and i happen to like to jack japanese custom better where you just set up that look at each other and you're not

but the fact is that i did take his hand in your right he's got a strong hand grip and that's fine but he was really a nice guy and of course he said he grew up but his parents were a little bit rough with them it's a trick at yourself you have to really look at the circumstances and everyone is different no matter what happens i mean you can see other of these things

And every one is different. Now, the Adrian Peterson one is going to be interesting because it really has to do with a lot of the mores of society. So we'll see what happens with that. Donald Trump with us on ESPN Radio. If you own Budweiser, if you owned Anheuser-Busch, Donald, would you spend $1.2 billion on the NFL? Well, that's the one way that things could start to topple. Two ways. Ratings go down, ratings start getting hit, and

And that'll happen with the flags and with the lack of tackles and everything. That will happen because I have so many friends that are sick of it. They can't watch it anymore. So ratings getting hit and the sponsors leaving. Those are your two things that you have to worry about from the standpoint of the brand and the, you know,

and keeping it going and making lots of money. And, you know, we'll have to see what happens. I think that the sponsors are starting to drop out, but they're not dropping out big league. But if you have big league sponsorship dropping out, then you've got a problem in the NFL. There's no question about it. Let's talk about some other things outside of sports here. Does Donald Trump have a tipping philosophy? How does Donald Trump tip?

I'm a big tipper. I believe in tip. I usually get very nice treatment and everything else. I tend to tip ridiculously because I don't want to read any stories that Donald Trump was cheap. And, you know, I read so much where somebody leaves a tip of 2% and 5% and, you know, et cetera, et cetera. No, I like helping people out. I'm in a position where I can do what I want to do. And I like tipping big, especially if I like the waiter or the waitress. And I like tipping big. Give us the coolest person you've played golf with.

I played golf with so many. I play golf with sort of, they're all cool in their own way, but I play with Michael Jordan. He's a great guy. Oh, is he gambling? Gambling? Gambling? Gambling Trump? No, not so much. I mean, hey, and let me tell you, Michael's a good golfer. You know, a lot of people say, oh, he's overrated. He's overrated. Michael can play. What were the stakes, Trump? He's a great chipper, and he's a great putter. Trump.

on the golf gambling. I know George is not playing out there for free if he's got Trump on the hook. What were the stakes? He wants to gamble a little bit, but you've got to ask Michael about that. No, I don't have Michael. If you want to call him and conference him in, we'll ask him. But right now I'm asking you. What were the stakes? He'll be happy when I say he was a great guy. Who won? I know, but I'm not asking.

I'm asking you for the question that makes him happy. We were partners, and we won. Okay. We were partners, and we won. Whoa, who were you playing against? We were playing... Well, actually, we had Annika Sorenstam in the group, and we had somebody else. On York's side?

No, no, Annika was on somebody else's side. And when we realized how good she was, we immediately all fought over her. What do you mean you realized how good she was? She's like one of us forever. Hey, Annika was seriously good, and she is seriously good. She's terrific. You're not going to give us the stakes if we badger you one more time? No, I don't want to do that. I don't want to embarrass anybody. All right, let me do it another way. The highest stakes that Donald Trump has ever played for on the golf course.

Well, actually, the highest stakes are, you know, I've made some of my best deals on the golf course and I've gotten to know people and I bought Trump Tower and, you know, Fifth Ed, I built it. But I bought the site because of golf, because the people that I played golf with really liked me a lot. And I made the deal because of them. I mean, because of golf. And I've made many great deals. And these are billion dollar deals because of golf. So golf and, you know, I tell the people at the Wharton.

school of finance which is considered the best business school i say you know you should teach golf at the school cuz i've made many great deals on the golf course one of the reasons i got turned very was because the gulf is playing something else and the folks that had term very for many years got to know me on the golf course and

I was able to get Turnberry in Scotland, which is one of the great places, one of the great iconic places in the world, not just in the world of golf. So I've made many great deals on the golf course, big ones. Stugatz, did you see what Trump just did to me? Of course I saw it. Trump, do you know what you just did to me? I asked you. I turned it around. You did?

Okay, at least you did it aware. No, no, no. I turned your question around. I answered it like a politician rather than talking about the most I ever played for. I gave you an extra little spin. Maybe that spin was more interesting. No, Trump, answer that question. I flipped it around. I liked my answer better. I think it's fine.

Trump, the audience doesn't like that answer. They want personal. Maybe they like it. No, I like to gamble a little bit, but, you know, I keep it down to a minimum. Number one, you know, I've won a lot of club championships. I play well, but it's still not my business. Lawrence Taylor, I've heard many stories. I know you play golf with LT, and I've heard many stories about Lawrence maybe cheating a little bit on the golf course, Donald. Can you confirm that for us?

Well, I'll tell you what about Lawrence. Lawrence is a funny guy. He's got the worst grip I've ever seen, but he can play. And he's as good a chipper as you'll ever see. And Lawrence played Jerry Rice on a show that I have on the Golf Channel where I introduce people and they play it as a celebrity. And Jerry played terrific, but Lawrence's chipping was...

You have to see the show. Donald J. Trump's fabulous world of golf. Trump, I can't believe you. Believe it or not, we had different people on the show. Oscar De La Hoya played something. But Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor played golf. And I'm telling you, Lawrence put on a chipping display. And Lawrence is a very good guy. And you talk about a guy who likes to gamble. But Lawrence is a very good player. He asked you for a great LT story on the golf course. And you turned that around.

around too. Well, I could tell you that when he played Jerry Rice, he won. And it was very interesting. And he made a statement at the end. He said, Jerry is a great golfer, but I'm a great winner.

And I said, boy, that was a killer statement. That was on television. And, you know, they'll be playing that match for many, many years to come. But did he cheat? No, no, just never mind. By the way, and Jerry's a great guy. No, I never saw Lawrence cheat. I played a lot of golf with Lawrence. And I could tell you, plenty of guys...

that you know very well that I know that cheat like crazy. And I don't want to give you that name because I know that'll be Dan's next name. Name one. Name one of them. No, no, no. I could tell you plenty. I won't do that. Trump, you're not afraid of a beef. You're never afraid of a beef. Honestly, with Lawrence, Lawrence, I've never seen Lawrence. All right, next question. Last question. He beefs with the president. You beef with everybody.

Everybody. Who are you beefing? I've played with Bill Clinton a lot, and he's a terrific guy. Cheater. And he's actually a very underrated golfer. He actually, if he played, well, he likes to play, but he actually hits the ball very nicely. Who are you beefing with these days? Give me a name. Who are you beefing with? Meaning fighting with. Yes. Yes.

Wow. Not that many people. I can't believe it. I must be losing my edge. I'm getting along with too many people. This isn't exciting, but not too many. I mean, the Rosies of the world, as far as I'm concerned, you can have her, but not too many people. I get along with a lot of people. All right. Donald, always good talking to you. Thank you for putting up with our nonsense. Thank you, fellas. It's a great show. Have a good time. All right. We're back after this.

Jeremy, you know something about me, right? You know when I'm grilling outside and it's summertime, you know how I supplement my summertime? Of course I do. I make a Miller Time. Of course.
