- So set your yearly goal, think about it, write it down. And then what I encourage you to do is write down a few things of like around those goals to solidify them, right? So why do you wanna achieve this goal? Is the first thing you should write down. What will happen in your life or business? What will change if you do achieve these goals? And then what is needed to achieve these goals, right?

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of Living the Red Life. Today we're going to talk about goals. How to crush your goals, set better goals and actually stick to your goals. Why? Because if you're listening to this live as it's released, it's the end of the year. If you're not, this is probably a reflection point for you because you set goals and your goals that you set, you haven't maintained, you haven't stayed disciplined to, you haven't been consistent with. So whenever you're listening to this, setting goals, having a vision and then drawing them back to KPIs and action points is

is so fundamentally important for business, and we're going to dive into all of that in today's show. So let's start at the top, goal setting, right? Most people talk about goal setting. I believe it's very important to have big goals and set big goals. The big problem here between goal setting is the implementation and actionable steps to then achieve them, which we're going to get to later. But let's work on goal setting to start if you're not doing it or doing it incorrectly. I think there's two types of goal setting.

One is the big picture goal, the long-term goal, right? Maybe it's the five-year vision, right? And then you have the one-year goal, which is maybe more realistic. And then I break that down into quarterly goals. So I'm going all the way from the top, big vision, five years, right? And as you'll notice, I call them all vision versus goals because I think it's important to have a five-year vision, but your five-year goals are going to change a little. So five-year big picture goal or vision, and then you're bringing it back to a one-year goal, right?

where do I need to be at the end of the year? These might be bigger things. So for me, for example, hey, I want to hit 50 million in revenue by the end of 2024 for my companies. I want to have a really solid C-suite team. I want to have done two TV shows. I have one that I'm filming December and January this year. I want to do at least one, if not two more next year. So, you know, I'm going back and I'm setting my big yearly goals, right? There's, I want to be on a couple of big

stages. I want probably five more celebrity partnerships. So I'm listing out the bigger goals. And then what I have me and my team do is we take those big picture yearly goals and then we break them down into like quarterly cornerstone pieces. And I'll get to that in a minute.

So when you're setting your big picture goals, I mean, three to five or one to five, you don't have to have three, but you want probably three to five big goals over the next year. Okay. These are goals and they might not all be about business. I'm talking about business today, right? But it could be one of those goals could be lose 20 pounds. One of those goals could be travel the world, right? So you want your four or five, three, four, five big goals. Okay. And then what I encourage you to do is write them down first.

they show that if you just simply write your goals down and then repeatedly reflect and rewrite those goals down, you have like a 20 to 30%, I can't remember the exact stat, but a significantly higher chance of actually achieving those goals. Why? Because A, when you write it down and you spend time on it, it becomes more solidified. B, when you then consistently revisit or rewrite that goal down, it stays top of mind, okay? Which is what I'm gonna get to in a little bit about consistency and staying on top of them. So for context,

We have our business goals on us every morning. My entire company meet on a call at 9 a.m. Eastern. It's called a level up call. And we go through all of our departments, revenue from the day, KPIs from the day before and the exec team and leadership team and department heads all give a 30 second to a minute update. And the first slide of that most of it slideshow based to keep everyone organized. The first slide of that level up morning call, we have our goals.

Okay. So we have our goals right there, monthly goals and yearly goals. So everyone in the company sees them every single morning. Okay. So set your yearly goal. Think about it. Write it down. And then what I encourage you to do is write down a few things of like a

around those goals to solidify them, right? So why do you want to achieve this goal is the first thing you should write down. What will happen in your life or business? What will change if you do achieve these goals? And then what is needed to achieve these goals, right? What is needed to then achieve these goals? So you can write down those three kind of bullet points.

for each big goal. That'll help you have a little more clarity around it, a little more time spent on it, flushing it out a little more, okay? That's your big goal. So everyone should be doing that for if you're listening to this live right now, and if you're halfway through the year or whenever you're listening to this,

take this same process and just do it for the next quarter or for the next nine months if you're listening to this you know in March April or if you're listening to it in summer do it for the next six months because there's a good chance if you listen to this you failed on your current goals or you got lost or you can't even remember what they are and don't worry I get it happens to everyone so that's the first step okay second step now we're going to break that that down into quarterly action rules okay so you have your big goal right I'm going to just use my example 50 million

So then I break down now in terms of revenue, where's that money coming from? Where do each department, each business entity that I own, where do they all need to hit, right? So I'm breaking down all of those pieces that are needed to hit.

OK, and it might be, OK, this celebrity partnership I have needs to do a million a month, 12 million. My main company needs to do 25 million. Then my second big partnership needs to do a million a month as well. Right. So I'm bringing down what needs to happen then.

And you're going to do this for each quarter. So, and then you're going to relate it to other actionable steps within that. So you might need to hire five staff to run that. So, you know, if I'm using my example to run that celebrity division, I might need to, if I want to, you know, say my goal is to be on two TV shows, two more TV shows. So by the end of the first quarter, I need to, uh,

I've shot the pilot episodes for those two TV shows and be working with producers, which I'm already doing, but I'm making this up, right? Shoot the pilots, working with the producers and pitching them to different streaming platforms, Netflix and whatever, Hulu and stuff. So I'm breaking down those quarterly pieces.

And you're going to do that and create like a four quarter plan for each goal. So if you have three goals right now, imagine you have three goals. You're going to do one page on each goal and you're going to set those quarterly plans

for each goal. So you should have goal one and then the four quarters, right? And then goal two and the four quarters. And then on the third page, goal three and the four quarters, what needs to happen. So it gives you like more of a roadmap, okay? More of a roadmap. And then what I like to do, okay? What's really important is once you've got this plan,

is create some way of seeing every day so for me we have it in the all staff right in this level of all staff call every single morning I used to when I had a smaller team and I wasn't doing those I used to have it on my phone so actually on the cover screen of my phone so I saw it all day every day okay I think at one point I had a big whiteboard when I was first starting out like nine years ago or first time in America had a big whiteboard in my house and

I had lots of whiteboards, but this big one whiteboard in my house, it had all my goals. And I actually still have the whiteboard from making my first million. It was all like sketched out and designed. And I mean, you know, I mean, we still have it in a storage unit. It's kind of like saved for when I set that goal. And I actually wrote down there what I had to do every week and month to hit that goal.

So I encourage you to put it in visibility, right? So however you want to do that. I've given you a few examples, you know, print it off, put it on a wall. It doesn't have to be super pretty unless you want it to be. Get a whiteboard, stick it on, put it on your phone front cover, sticky note it on the top of your desk or on your computer somewhere, right?

So it just stays top of mind because what happens sadly with goals and why most people get sidetracked is life gets in the way, they get busy, they go back into the hamster wheel as I call it. I shot an episode the other week on this. They go back into the hamster wheel working in the business versus on the business.

And then sadly what happens is the year goes by and you know the year goes fast, right? I'm filming this at the end of 2023 and it only feels like yesterday that 2023 started. So the year goes fast and you get so caught up in the day to day and you don't reflect on your actual where you're at. And then what happens is you don't

correct course quick enough to go, holy cow, I'm nowhere near my goal, or I didn't even start on this, or I forgot about this, right? And it might be okay, one or two of your goals out of the five you set, you change direction, you're not interested anymore. But most of the time, these should be like real big goals that are genuine and not just made up. And you're

constantly correcting course around it. Okay, first quarter, I'm not there. What do I need to do this quarter? I'm looking at it every day, right? It's gonna keep you hungry. It's gonna keep you accountable. It's gonna keep you focused. It's gonna keep you disciplined. So I really encourage that visibility side of setting the goals, okay?

sharing those goals with the people that make an impact on those goals. So for most of you, if you have businesses like mine, that's going to be your team, okay? It's really important the team are aligned and understand the vision and where they're trying to help you get to and why that's important for everyone and what are the exact steps and the roles they play in helping you get to that goal. Now, say you don't have a team, right? And say you've got a personal goal that's lose 25 pounds, then that might be different. You're not going to

tell your staff, or you might not have a team, but say you live with someone, a roommate or a spouse, okay, which they should support you, obviously, I'm talking now as if they do support you, if they don't support you, that's a different podcast for another day, which I've already recorded on creating the perfect environment and having the right people around you. So if they don't support you, you should probably go watch that episode. But as long as, let's talk about they do support you, you're sharing that goal with them, and then you're telling them, hey, I'm

Are you willing and open to help and support me on achieving this goal? The reason you're saying that is you want them to give you buy-in first before just telling them where you need support. Of course, everyone's answer if they care for you or like you or they're a good, genuine good person that should be around you is, yes, of course, I would love to help. How can I help? Tell me, please.

Right. And then you're going to tell them how they're going to help. Right. So say your goal is to lose 20 pounds. You go, well, I know you go to the gym every morning at 7 a.m. Can I come? Right. Great. Or it might be, hey, I know that we have this biscuit tray that we put on the table every single day. Right. And we always refresh it. And it looks great when we have guests and stuff. But what I've noticed is every day I eat five biscuits and I look to the back of the packet and I realize those five biscuits were 500 calories.

So can we get rid of the biscuit tray? And I understand, you know, when guests come around, it doesn't look quite as good, but maybe we do a fruit tray when guests come around instead. Okay. So little things, right? Because it's what I've learned in life from my health and fitness background. There's a lot of goals setting around that side of that industry. But even in businesses, it's the little things that add up. So getting buy-in from the people and the support from the people is very important because let's face it, we all know this now. It

hitting big goals is hard enough, right? And it gets even harder if you're like running uphill with the wind against you. So don't try and achieve this goal, which most people will never achieve, right? Because you're probably setting a big goal, a goal that has...

high chance of failure right because it's a big goal so don't try and achieve that running uphill with the wind blowing against you get all the odds in your favor as much as you can okay so i want all the odds in my favor that's how you win right i want everyone supporting me i want everyone aligned i want everyone working towards it i want people to get in the way i want the perfect environment blah blah blah so i'm building this perfect setup to try and win to try and achieve my goals

So that's the second or the next step is getting buy-in and understanding and support from your peer group, your network, right? Whatever that might be. And this is a great opportunity to say you need someone that isn't a friend or a family member,

you need someone to help you, right? So this might be you connecting with like your mentor or a business friend or someone you know on Instagram. And sometimes you might be a bit bullish. You might go out the book. Hey dude, I know we've only spoke a couple of times or I followed you for a long time.

And I'm not saying you just cold send this to someone because it probably won't do that well, but someone you have a relationship with, but maybe it's not super deep. Or maybe they run it as a kind of business and you might go, hey, I've followed you for a long time. I know we connected a couple of years ago, but I was actually setting goals this year and I was thinking about you as I set them because one of my goals was about getting on a TV show.

I would love to reconnect and see if there's any synergies or ways you could help me, right? And that might open the door to one big breakthrough, one connection, one idea, one thing you need that could help you take off that goal real fast, okay? But that's about having...

A, a plan intention and then, you know, leveraging your network. And that's one reason I talk about in another podcast I've done way back about how your network is so important, right? And how to build a better network. So that's kind of the people side and getting the buying, right? We've talked about the visibility, okay? And then the last part is just like the deliverable, the clear actionable items and the deliverable plan. So there's going to be a lot more tedious stuff.

that has to go into building that goal. And this is like the analytical system side of my brain now, right? Which makes me a successful entrepreneur because I have the big vision creativity, but I'm also like a systems person. So then I go, okay, so I want to lose 20 pounds. I need to join a gym. I need to block out an hour every day in my calendar. I need to get on a meal prep plan or buy a meal prep or have...

I need to cook every Sunday and have two hours blocked out there. I need to know what I'm gonna eat, right? So I need to buy these supplements. So you're going through all the steps, okay? And if it was business, say your business is, I wanna scale from one to $2 million this year. Then it's going, okay, well, I need to spend,

Right now I spend 30K a month on ads, right? 30K a month on ads and I make 80K a month back. So I need to probably get my spend to 50K, right? So then I'm writing that down, okay? Which is, so I need to increase ad spend by whatever that is, $600 a day, okay?

Okay, great. I need to add two or three more products because I need a bigger backend and higher ticket offers. Okay, great. I need to add in email marketing. So I'm going to go and either build out the emails or hire someone that can take over the email marketing and just pay them a grand a month, whatever it might be, right? So you're now building out the actionable steps needed to start bringing those goals to life. This is more the tedious part, but it's actually probably the most important part because I

What people don't understand is like I'm all about affirmations and future casting and blah, blah, blah. But if you have no plan, just saying I want to be a millionaire isn't going to make you a millionaire unless you're actually doing the things it takes to be a millionaire. Right. So don't don't believe. Don't be tricked into believing that just thinking it will bring it to life. There's a lot of power in that.

Don't get me wrong, right? I'm a fan of, you know, the secret and all those things, but there has to be actionable things that come behind it, okay? So make sure you get that blend of like future casting goals, saying, writing it down everywhere, and that's all great, sharing it with your friends, but don't miss this last step when it comes to actual actionable steps

For each nitty gritty thing that you're going to do, you're going to stay disciplined because it's the small things, like I talk about, it's the small things every day that add up to success over time. You see that in every aspect of life. A good relationship, it's the saying goodbye in the morning and coming in and giving your spouse a kiss and doing date night twice a week and tidy enough, but the plates in the kitchen, if that's her biggest pet peeve or his biggest pet peeve, whatever, right? It's the little things.

over time that compounds success if you want to be the best basketball player in the world it's taking five hours it's shooting for five hours a day every single day like you know steph curry and all the greats do right so it's the little things every single day so don't ignore those little things so that's kind of the 101 on goal setting i hope that helps so you've got your big picture you've got your big plan you've got now you've broken it down by quarter you've got buy-in and help and support from networking people around you

And then you've got the clear action items and deliverables that you need to work on. Maybe it's yourself internally with other people, with your company to actually bring that to life. Okay, that's kind of how we build goal setting here or how I do. I do it with my team and then actually do it with my mastermind and my 1500k in a circle and legacy clients. I help do this at the end of every year, ready for next year.
