What about you? Welcome back to Unashamed. Dad has a listener that sent him a letter, someone named Gramps.
Gramps. Gramps. They started calling him Gramps. He's being educated. He's not an old person or she. I didn't know man with a male or a female. Well, Phil, if it's Gramps, it's got to be a male. But you said they're not an older, but they're not old? That's what Dad just said. How do you know they're not old? What's the age we're talking about here? Because they're calling him Gramps as a joke.
Oh, that was a joke. You missed the joke. Well, maybe... He's not old enough to be Gramps, but they call him Gramps because he's listening. Well, maybe that's another joke. For three of us in this world, which makes perfect sense with him being called Gramps because we're old style, a lifestyle, wise lifestyle. Ephesians chapter five, my man, Gramps. Or a woman. Either way...
Yeah. I didn't. The admonition we give you and your friends, tell them a wise lifestyle is open to opportunity. That's 15 and 16. A wise lifestyle is open to God's will. So you're on the right track. That's verse 17. And a wise lifestyle is carefully influenced by
It's unwise to be influenced by mind-altering substances. So you're on the right track, man, in this world, because there's more substances that will get you right out there lying on the side of the road you're fixing to go into. If you're listening and you're like, what's Phil talking about? That's the Phil translation of Ephesians 5.18 that says, and do not...
get drunk with wine in which there is debauchery. Yeah, that was the spirit. That was the substance. He is going to school. It's one of the Northern universities. And he caught a little flack there because, uh, so they nicknamed him Gramps because he said, I don't think I want to get drunk or whore today. Well, there you go. Well, Gramps, then we're with you. I think you're on the right track. That's exactly right. We'll take that as a badge of honor.
We needed a little jingle before that. I didn't know that was going to be that riveting.
It was pretty good. Like, you know, Daily Mail with Phil. He's a student, and he's taking care of business. And people are saying, you old school. But he grinned and is still old school when he was like us. You see what I'm saying? What you're saying, Dad, is new school may not be so good. We're not new, new school. We're not new school. We're old school. Yeah, to refer back to a previous podcast. We're quoting here this morning. These writings are good.
Or at least 2,000 years old. Yeah, be proud of it. Be proud of the fact that you're not doing what Phil called it. We're proud of you, Gramps. Commode hugging. What do you call it? Commode hugging drunk. Yeah. No, I'm going to put that in my next speech. Gramps, you're on the right track, my man. We're with you all the way. A little shout out to Gramps. I hope it's actually a guy. Yeah.
We're not sure. Well, it's not hidden to you, Grahams. It's hidden to us because we didn't read that. You know what you are. You know what you are. Once that was a joke, that was an old person. I was like, well, maybe it could be anything if the whole thing's a joke. There was an old skit on Saturday Night Live called Pat.
And we weren't sure whether. Well, that's back when that used to be. Right. Right. I mean, now it's such a touchy thing, but back in the day it was just like, you know, I remember that. I thought it was funny. It was like, cause they couldn't figure out.
They could never do this. Yeah, if Pat was a boy or a girl. Right. And so everything was like, everybody was trying to guess the whole time. Without being offensive. Without being offensive. They didn't want to offend Pat. That's right. So they would ask the questions like, what's your favorite magazine? Yeah, do you like Cosmopolitan or Sports Illustrated? And she'd go, people. I like people. You never really knew. I mean, we can all agree those were the golden years of SNL. Oh, they were. That's true.
I still remember the jingle. Whether the letter writer was male or female, live as children of light for the fruit of the light. That's how more text for Gramps. Of all goodness, righteousness, and truth, and find out what pleases the Lord. You're on the right track, dude. Don't let them people know you're not. Gramps, you've got a new fan in Phil. Oh, that's good. Your letter has motivated him. That's a good thing. I need a new t-shirt. There's too many letters out there.
I try to answer, but I mean, I tried to like one like that. But Gramps. His friends are riding him. Well, that stuck out to you, right?
He had a note there. He resonated with you. He did. Yeah. I like it when we open the mailbag sometimes here. You got a card today, Jase. Was that a birthday wishes? It was a birthday card, but my birthday was two weeks ago. Yeah. I appreciate it. Well, it could have been there. It was mailed to my house for some reason. Well, but like a lot of people's response is,
to my upcoming trial over my seatbelt technicality. Oh, I'm just waiting. In quotations, they said, let it go. But no, we're going to trial. Yep. So I'm not letting it go because it's about integrity. It's about honesty. Yeah.
So I got to thinking about it. I mean, I've been waking up the last two or three mornings. Working on your speech? Not working on it, just. Thinking it through? Visualizing myself in a courtroom saying, because I got to thinking about my record. I've been driving a vehicle for over 40 years. I think I'm going to start here. I got one ticket for evading a red light 30 something years ago. Yeah. And you say, what was that all about?
Honestly, I pulled in there to get a newspaper because back then we read the newspaper and I was wanting to look at the box scores. That's how we follow baseball back in the day. Baseball. And I peered over there and the, as I pulled into the convenience store and the newspaper machine was empty.
So I continued onward. Now, I didn't try to fight this because from the cop's perspective, I evaded a red light, but that was not my intent. But I never had to pay for that. They dropped that.
I'm surprised they didn't drop this one, but I guess maybe. And so the other time. You talked about it, maybe not. I was in Alabama and three o'clock in the morning with my family going on vacation. And I remember this one. I got a ticket for 41 and a 30, 30 feet from where it was 45.
So you were just about to hit the 45. Yeah, there's two people. That's called a speed trap. Yeah. So that's the only actual ticket that I ever got. And look, by the way, that was 25 years ago, a long time ago, and they're still in that same spot. I drive through there every time I go back and forth. So I'm saying I'm going to start there and then get into the case. I don't want to give too much because, you know,
I'm sure the other side could be listening. Well, they could be. That's right. Well, I got news for you. Get ready. Because I believe my case is really sound. And to my knowledge, you know, the hundreds of thousands of people who listen to the podcast, I don't think we've had any lawyer or any dissent upon the nuts and bolts of the case.
From listeners? Yeah. Really? They just... A lot of them say, let it go, let it go. But I'm saying the actual nuts and bolts of the case, I've had zero lawyers say, Jace, you're wrong on this one. Well, you just think out of the few lawyers that I've talked to. A few police officers have said you were wrong. I hadn't read it, but have sent to some of our people. Once you read that statute...
The lawyers are saying that this guy was wrong. He's taking a statute written for something else and trying to apply it to the public. No, that's not your job. You are to enforce what you're doing.
What is written? You don't like the way it's written? Write your time. Who knows? This whole thing, you may change the way they look at this. Yeah, I think so. This could be a change. I'm all for law enforcement. Y'all know me. I've done more. Look, the thing about the justice system in America, and let's face it, it's under serious attack now in terms of trust, but the whole idea is you're supposed to have your day in court. If you so choose-
Yeah, this is context. Because a lot of people are like, I get it, there's an unlit go, but I'm saying if he really wanted to do it,
I mean, if he really wants to go, this is his right as an American citizen. It's no different than what Paul did in the New Testament. You can't have, look, I support the law enforcement, which I'll tell about that also, and the lack of tickets in my life. Look, and the many functions. In fact, that's why I thought we were going to have a conversation about helping kids or something. That's why when I stuck my hand out,
to shake his hand because I knew I didn't break the law. Yeah. I thought he maybe wants me to sign something, you know, or whatever. I never have gotten a ticket. But Phil, has Phil never gotten a ticket? Never got a ticket. Not to my knowledge. Now, there were some tales from the old days about some, you know, DUIs and certain things like that. But yeah, since you were a believer. But to be clear, because we need to move on.
This is about taking one law, one statute, and applying it to something else. If you just step back and look at the big situation, the seatbelt that I had on was properly fastened in the buckle. There was a band across my waist, and there was another band across my torso. Now, granted, it was under my arm, not on top of my shoulder, but it's functioning properly.
as a seatbelt would. If I would have had a wreck, the torso, because I've looked for studies on what are the difference in injuries if you have it under the arm or over the shoulder and guess what?
I found no studies. Some guy sent me a note and said it would hurt you, but I don't know. He said, I don't know what he did. Well, let's put it in the statute then. But the statute I got a ticket for didn't have any of that in there. But I'm saying his reasoning, because I've already subpoenaed the- To most people, it wouldn't be worth the trouble, but to some it would. Yeah, but I subpoenaed the footage. Yeah.
The body cam? His body cam because he quoted a statute over and over. That's the only reason I signed off on the ticket. I said, well, if that's what it says. He said, oh, that's what it says. Well, I guess he didn't think I was going to go look it up when I got...
you know, home, but the law, that's why the lawyers, they'll show the body cam footage at the trial. Well, I just have it there in case he says, no, I didn't say that. Oh, I see. Oh yeah. I didn't know you could subpoena. That's interesting. One of my advisors said, you need to subpoena that in case he says he didn't say that. So we were in new Orleans when Lisa had her surgery and we had a couple of friends there with us and she got a ticket and
It said she parked on the sidewalk, but she didn't. And so wisely, she took pictures of her car and she was bringing it back and she was telling us about it. And I was like, well, you know, it's New Orleans. I don't know. I would have just paid it. But her husband showed up and he said, no.
And so he gets on the phone and finds out where you go for this. Well, he spent two hours, but when he went in and talked to this DA and he had the pictures and he explained the whole situation, they dropped it. And so, you know, to me, it was whatever it was, a hundred bucks. I'd have probably just paid it. But, you know, for them, it was like, no, we didn't do that. That's what bothers me when the people say, let it go. And you can't have, I mean, law, the law enforcement, they're supposed to enforce the law. You, you can't have them,
interpreting other laws and applying it right under situate that's not not the job right so when he once he put himself out there and said that's what the statute says because i was like man i'm a man of integrity i didn't know this was a law and he's like it is a law that's why i'm fighting back if that part of the conversation hadn't happened i would have paid the ticket
But he's like, this is the law. This is what the statute says. I looked up the statute. It does not say that anywhere in there, not even close. So at your trial, you need to say, I am the law. No, you wouldn't want to say that. But I am going to say, you can't be misapplying. You can't take a statute written for automobile manufacturers and then apply it to this situation.
and give somebody a ticket. What he should have done is give me a warning. I was right. Because ever since then, well, I've had my shoulder strapped up because I thought if I see this guy again, he's going to say, here we go again. The warning would have worked, but that's why I think it became personal. And it was kind of a, you know, Perry Mason, I got you.
You've got to open with, Your Honor, not only do I deny the allegations, I deny the alligator. Yeah, I actually like that one. I'll try to work with you. Maddie, that got a cackle out of Maddie. I don't know, maybe it happens every political season, but it seems to be this year more prevalent than ever that we see abortion.
Being talked about more in the campaign, you know, for president and all this stuff. And, you know, we being obviously believers in life, it's not a political issue with us. It's a, it's a life issue. It's a human rights issue. And our good friends at pre-born, uh, that's how they view it. They have a network of clinics and, uh, they position themselves in the highest abortion areas in the country, uh,
And basically put themselves on standby to protect and love mothers who are facing unplanned pregnancies. And I think that's one of the things that, Jason, has changed about the pro-life movement. I feel like we're more of the pro-love movement now, realizing that, you know, we're looking out for folks as well as the babies. You know, we're looking out for both. Yeah, because the argument comes down to, you know, you can...
Call it a catchy phrase, reproductive rights of a woman. We're looking at babies. Yeah. We're focused on the actual babies because at one point in life, strangely enough, we all were babies. That's right. It's like President Reagan said. He used to say, you know, it's easy to be pro-choice once you're alive and on earth, but someone chose life for you to be here. Right.
which is true. And what pre-born does is they introduce a woman to her baby through ultrasound, as well as showing her God's love. And when this happens, her baby's chance at life doubles.
And so just hearing that heartbeat makes all the difference in the world. So we want to help these guys out. They need our help. A donation of any size to support the mission of pre-born is a good thing. All gifts are tax deductible and help defend the defenseless. One ultrasound is just $28 or five ultrasounds are $140. Five ultrasounds
$5,000 sponsors all the ultrasounds for Preborn's entire network for a day. So check these guys out. Let's help them. Let's join together and help mothers choose life to donate. Dial pound 250 and say the keyword baby. That's pound 250 keyword baby or go to preborn.com slash unashamed. That's preborn.com slash unashamed.
All right, so we'll see where all that goes. We will be reporting on it because it's going to be breaking news. This is going to be big. This is going to be big. You think? I think so. I think there's something. I mean, I think it was one of those things that,
Yeah, I was kind of getting sick of hearing about it. But now it's at that point where you're actually, it's kind of morphed into a story. I mean, it's like, I feel like I've been just grinding this down. It's like a day line. If you would have paid attention sooner, you would have realized this has been a story all along.
I mean, I'm in now. I'll be honest with you. I mean, I went from a guy that was like, enough is enough to like, I'm really curious of how this turns out. Zach was an early let it go. Now he's rooting you on. You just don't realize that if you just all line up like cattle. I admit, Jazz, you have a right to have your day in court and you're doing it. So part of me. Yeah.
Part of me really respects them. Yeah, I do too. And I think our audience, I may be wrong, we'll find out, but I feel like this episode, there's going to be a shift in the polling. And I think most people are going to be like, you deserve your day. Right. We've certainly built it up to, we can't wait to see what happens. Most people are giving opinions, but they haven't read the statutes. That's true. The statute that I got a ticket for,
had had says nothing of what the guy who was saying here's the reason i'm giving you this ticket this is what the statute says it does not say that anything close to i mean he was just he had memorized it i could tell he had done this many times so i thought this is just not right well what's going to happen now if you if your case if if you're found innocent
then they may have to go back and overturn all of those other cases. No, they won't do that. I don't think in the traffic court, I think they have a lot less. You're thinking, that's what I was thinking. I thought the implications of what we're fixing to do could change the world. This defense lawyer. One seat belt at a time. I said this to the defense lawyer who knows all these people. Yeah.
And he said, no, it's not going to change anything. He's like, this is traffic court. He's like, there's a reason they don't allow it to be filmed. Yeah. He's like, there's no rules. He's liable to say, hey, Mr. Jace, quit talking. You lose. It's like, don't come there expecting 100% fairness. He'll let you talk. He's like, there will be a trial. Yeah.
And there will be somebody rebutted. And he's like, you could be 100% right. And, you know, they just not care. And you go pay your fine or they'll put you in jail. Yeah. He said, or they're liable to say you're dismissed. I mean. For some reason, Jase, they put you in the P farm over this. We'll just start a prison ministry while you're out there. I've been there before. We'll come visit you. Bring you some tracks and stuff. I think I'll bring that up earlier in my presentation. Yeah.
That I'm going to say I've been there as a volunteer teaching people to stop breaking the law. That's one of the reasons I'm here. It's an integrity thing is really what it's all about. I was on it. I got one question. What does Missy say about all this?
Well, she's kind of like Zach's day. At first, she was just wanting it to go away. But now I would say she's my biggest supporter. Now she's like. Well, she just feels like this shouldn't be going on in America. And there's a lesson here because I think that you stood against the cultural tide.
When everybody was telling you to shut up, let it go, you stood in the gap like a prophet. And you said, I'm not going that way. Well, it's because I'm not blaming everybody who said let it go, but they don't realize to me integrity matters. And I think because I was honest enough.
He took that as a weakness and gave me a ticket. I was honest. I was like, the reason you didn't see my seatbelt is because I had it under my arm. And he's like, gotcha. And so then I didn't think he was being honest when he, because I said, well, that can't be a law. And he's like, oh, it's in the statute. That's why I said it's always been about integrity. When he said that's in the statute, he shouldn't have said that. That's not in the statute. To your credit, you, from the first day this happened, because it was right before the podcast,
That was your claim. It was a challenge to your integrity. You said that from the minute... And I'm not throwing this guy under the bus. No, and you never have. He could just be ignorant of the... He just thinks that's what the statute says. So it'd be interesting to see his take. Yeah. But either it's ignorance or...
Something sinister where he knows that doesn't say that. And he's just trying to, which I don't really think, I think it may be an ignorant saying, but my point is you're there to enforce the law, not interpret it and apply other laws to what you think it should be. And that's when you need to write Congress, not people tickets.
Well, I do think there's something supremely American about having integrity and sticking to it. Even when, as Zach said, the flow is against you. There's something. I mean, that's kind of how we were founded. We were under these laws and rules that weren't fair. And we just said, you know, we're not going to do this. We're going to just start our own thing. Now, we've drifted off course. But I'm saying that's where it started with this kind of mindset that Jay said. I keep thinking you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. I told the truth.
and try to be rational about it. And if they deem that as the interpretation of the law, I'll pay it. But I didn't know that. I didn't know that was against the law. Right. Because the statute certainly doesn't say it. But if we want to apply it to that,
Okay, well, let's do it. Right. It's not like you're just going to quit driving. But somebody, maybe I can get them to write Congress and change the wording. I mean, it'll be surprising. If I'm guilty, if they deem me guilty, it'll be interesting what the next move is. Yeah. Because the statute doesn't say that. You see what I mean? That's why I find it hard to believe for somebody open-minded or a judge to say, oh, yeah, this is...
clear as a bell right no don't don't see it all right so if you open the bed so unashamed nation was i guess we need to we need to see what you think now if you think something differently so let our folks i feel an acquittal is coming i mean that's how confident i am go for it just see i could be wrong
All right, so we're in Ephesians 5, and actually, Dad read the text, which is kind of where we left off now jumping into marriage, because we talked about wisdom, and we talked about it's kind of a culmination of living the life of Christianity, and this whole illustration that we're about to get into is
I think Jace mentioned this last time, is Christ and us, Christ and his people, the church. And he illustrates that three different ways in this text that we're diving into. The first, of course, is relationships and this idea of submission. And it started out, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. And it's our relationship with him, but it's the closest thing you see on earth is between a husband and a wife.
And then, of course, you've got a family setting with parents and children. And then you've got this, what in their thing was, their culture was an indentured servitude setting where you had people that were over other people. So all of these are illustrative of the submission principle. Pretty some merit. Among you, there must not even, not even, not be even a hint of sexual immorality.
or any kind of impurity or greed. These are improper for God's holy people. So when we're told as a group that there must not even be a hint of
Greed. Impurity, which was kind of a demonic word. That lets you know that God is serious about this sex thing. Well, absolutely. And it's what destroys family after family after family. How many marriages does it destroy every single day? I mean, it's just... It's out of control. It's out of control. It's out of control.
Zach, you told us you got Ruth in there with you. Is this Bring Your Daughter to Work Day today? Yeah. Jill is down at the LO conference headed your way. Oh, that's right. So I made the mistake of saying I'm babysitting, but apparently it's called being a dad when you watch your own kids. I love it. And we love family. Obviously, we love being together.
And one of our good friends that's out there in ministry is Focus on the Family. They've been doing great biblical work for many years to strengthen Christian families all around the world. And they have a podcast called Focus on the Family with Jim Daly. And every episode is designed to help you to guide your loved ones through the unique challenges that are faced by today's Christian families.
And let's face it, our families are under attack from the evil one in many, many ways. They have decades of trusted, compassionate stories of redemption that they tell on a regular basis. Jim connects you to biblically sound advice on marriage and parenting that is relatable, practical, and also very interesting. It's not just a podcast. It's a lifeline. So whether you're dealing with everyday issues or you're searching for guidance on more complex matters,
Focus on the family is there to support you every step of the way. So we want you to check them out on your favorite podcast platform, or you can visit focus on the family with jimdailey.com and start making a difference in your family's life today. That's focus on the family with jimdailey.com. Trust us. You're going to love it. Well, and you look back at the history when this was written and it was not unlike our culture was the setting was, uh,
Anything goes with a hint of religion in there. I mean, some of these groups were teaching religious groups. That is the apex. You know, religiosity was the sexual experiences. I mean, it's the same thing going on. It was very much intertwined in the idolatry past, no doubt about it. Well, yeah. But even then, you start looking around at groups today, there are some that
These hierarchies where these men are married to 74 women. Multiple people. Having kids by them all, yeah. And calling it all something holy. Seems like a pretty good idea for a guy to have sex with a lot of women to me. Yeah, exactly. Which, by the way, when you read through the palsy epistles, the warnings are always that. It's always like...
divisive false teachers, you better watch it because they go after people in the flock. And he mentions weak-willed women. He talks about the idea of how they prey on these relationships and on these people, and it's terrible. We don't take that as a world as serious as the Apostle Paul speaking on behalf of the
God Almighty. Exactly. That's why, Dad, you mentioned old school. I like a lot of the old school Bible guys because they're like, in different organizations, different denominations, they're like, somebody pulls one of those moves and pastor or whatever, you're out.
You don't go back because that's, you know, you can't be trusted, you know? And so it's an old school way of doing it, but I like it. I mean, that's just. I think when you set up the ideal that husbands and wives have roles in this special marriage bond as it relates to Christ in the church. So the church belongs to Jesus and Jesus is,
to the church right yep yeah so whenever you take this into a sex context when you have sex with a woman well that's you say and we she her body belongs to me you remember the uh first corinthians 7 and we belong to each other that's why if you were having sex with multiple people all of a sudden that doesn't make sense anymore because when in that act
Well, I thought you belonged to the last person. And that 1 Corinthians 7 says, I think it's a good passage to read. He was talking about kind of in the context of sex. Paul said, it's good for a man not to marry because he was not married, which is strange because people say, well, Jesus wasn't married and Paul wasn't married, and they're writing about marriage. How does that work? But they do have the Holy Spirit.
But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife. A lot like Ephesians 5 where it said the wife should be submissive to her husband. Yeah. Which a lot of people, especially in churches, they think that my wife should be submissive to them. Right. Because she's somehow less than. Trust me, she'll let you know that ain't going to happen. Right.
That was kind of a joke, but not really. Maddie laughed about it. But since there's so much immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. Now, I find this fascinating. The husband...
should fulfill his marital duty to his wife and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong, there's a word I was looking for, to her alone but also to her husband in the same way. The husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. So I find it fascinating that right off the bat, Paul is making it clear it's kind of a two-way street here
Because most people say, oh, well, the husband, he's, you know, your body doesn't belong to you. It belongs to me too. But the next verse said, hey, buddy. Same way. Yeah. Get over here. You know, whatever. And so then the next verse says, do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time.
So that you may devote yourselves. By the way, he's talking about S-E-X. He's talking about sex. Yeah, we're talking about, well, Phil brought it up. So I thought we'd just, once he brought it up, we'd talk about sex. Wasn't there a song, Let's Talk About Sex?
Wasn't there a song somewhere? Salt-N-Pepa. I miss that. Well, I've never listened to the song, so that's that news. I'm sorry. I did grow up in the 90s. Were they talking about godly sex? I don't believe so. I put those ways behind me now, so I'm trying to think about it. So that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again. So now we're getting back into the same. We have this...
spirit, this evil spirit, demonic, impure, unclean. That's an interesting point. You're right. Then come together so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I'll let you explain that. I wish that all men were as I am, because he was single, but each man has his own gift from God, and one has this gift from
Another has that. But I want to read this next part too. He started talking about unmarried and the widows in verse 8 and 9. It is good for them to stay unmarried as I am. But if they cannot control themselves, they shall marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. I wanted to read that because when I asked my wife to marry me, I had to get her dad's blessing. Which she rejected. Which she rejected. Yeah.
And him being a preacher. By the way, that seemed to be a trend in our family. We were three for three before Jeff came along. My response to his rejection was I quoted this verse. I said, hey, Mr. Larry.
It's better to marry than to burn a passion. He didn't like that. He didn't like it at all. I'm sure he didn't. The context there, though, when he says, because I remember that threw me off when I was in college and I was taking a survey of the New Testament in one of my courses, and they mentioned that verse, it's better for a man not to marry than
But the context there is a lot of scholars believe that he's talking about the context of the current persecution of the church. It's not, he's not, it is actually better for a man to marry. I mean, we were created, you know, for union as we talked about in the last podcast, that the passage you mentioned in Genesis where God looked at man when it was just man said, it's not good for man to be alone. And I think what,
What's happening with sexuality, and not just our current culture, it's any culture, it's to detach the sexual union from its ultimate end and purpose and to make it a means to an end in and of itself, meaning that it literally becomes...
all about the consumption of your own personal pleasure. And as a result, what you're doing is you're actually denying your body. You're actually devaluing the body. So if you go back to what we've talked about a lot in this podcast, a lot in this podcast on this idea of the temple, if you remember, what is the temple? The temple is the physical place of
where the spiritual world of heaven meets the physical. That was the temple where heaven and earth meet in a physical temple. And that was the tabernacle. That was the temple. That was the garden, by the way. And then this whole thing in Ephesians is making this argument that, well, now the temple is going to be your body. And so where sexuality plays into this, Paul further explains this in 1 Corinthians 6. Well, that's where I was fixing to go because I had just read 7.
But that is the context of 1 Corinthians 7 is what you're talking about in 1 Corinthians 6. So we got a brand new sponsor, boys, Alpine Gold Exchange. Did they send samples for us too? And I heard well. They sent samples, but they didn't send samples to you guys. But I did get these. These are goldbacks right here. You said, what is a goldback? I have about 91 goldbacks right here.
I'm going to give you a little quick economics. Well, y'all took my silver, by the way. Well, look, 91 divided by four is what you need to be figuring. Well, you need to give me my silver back from Cy, and then you guys can get the gold back. Oh, we've been fighting over precious metals. And so I want to tell you about our new sponsor here with these gold backs. If you know anything about the gold standard, when you anchor your currency in gold,
You can have it's a good hedge against inflation. The problem with gold is it's hard to trade it, right? Because it's so valuable. You're not going to go to the store and purchase something with two ounces of gold. But that's where our new sponsor, Alpine Gold, comes into play. At Alpine Gold, you can start earning competitive returns on your money, on precious metals at least, that allow investors to protect against inflation, which we've all seen, by the way.
While earning a competitive return at the same time, you're not going to find many similar offers. Every other precious metal IRA is lacking this. That's why Alpine Gold offers gold leases that pay you in gold. Everyone is eligible to start with returns up to 3.5% APY. Alpine Gold now offers members the ability to enroll in their lease program directly on the UPMA account portal for gold coins, goldbacks, etc.
And silver, which, by the way, you guys stole my silver. I want it back. Thank you.
The gold back is the world's first physical interchangeable gold money that is designed to accommodate even small transactions. That's the big distinction is it can accommodate even small transactions. Gold backs do not need someone else's approval to spend. They don't specify where they can be spent or what they can be spent on. They're anonymous. There's no need to know who you are to spend them. And for the first time in human history, you can spend physical gold on small transactions online.
such as a smoothie while at the same time, while using the same type of money for large transactions, such as a remodel on your home. This solves the 2,600-year small coin problem with spending gold. We are proud to offer the industry's best products
pricing for goldbacks, an inflation-resistant currency that is made of gold. Buy, spend, or grow your gold holdings with goldbacks. When you buy 100 goldbacks or lease them, Alpine Gold Exchange will give you five goldbacks
on your first lease payment. Payments occur once a month after your lease begins. Limit one payment per person. I hold several goldbacks as I've already showed you, and I encourage you to check them out to see if they're right for you. Learn more about goldbacks by visiting alpinegold.com. 1 Corinthians 6 gives such a beautiful picture of it when it's talking about sexuality. By the way, I remember this because people used to
get on to you guys for dipping Copenhagen. And I may have been part of the, the Copenhagen snuff dippers, but I remember y'all always, they say, I sent against your body. Your body's a temple. And you guys would always quote this first, which is a great point. And by the way, and I quit dipping been over a year. Uh, and the little things you do just to have something in your lip is funny. Cause it's not tobacco, but it's like just to whatever. And, but someone's quit watching the podcast and,
And it was so funny because they said, I just can't watch the podcast anymore because Jace is dipping on there. And what they didn't know is he wasn't. He had quit. He quit. So I never responded to this person. I thought, well, because they're not listening anymore anyway. But sometimes be careful when you make judgments because you may not be right. Well, the verse that Zach is referring to before he reads the rest of it is 1 Corinthians 6, 18. It is an interesting verse, and it probably wasn't designed to be used for –
rationalization of dipping. But maybe just to scoach out of context, but it is a profound verse that means something. Yeah. It says flee from sexual immorality, which I think that's what it's talking about. That's why I said when two people get together, there's, there's sex that is moral in that God is the creator of everything.
The bodies, sex, and morality itself. So in that context, sex is moral. It's actually a beautiful thing.
So immoral would be not designed. Which, by the way, that's why Paul said, I say this as a concession, not a command. He was talking about because out of weakness. He's not commanding people when to have sex and when not to. He's just saying, look, you want some advice over how to deal with each other. This is a good thing. And this is from a guy who never had sex, as far as we know. Exactly. So verse 18 then says, all other sins a man commits unlawfully.
are outside his body. But he who sins sexually sins against his own body. And to Zach's point, the next verse, do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, which gets into this
humility and service and submission and the belonging to each other, belonging to each other. That's the whole context as it, cause you got to remember, this is all about Jesus. He, he pursued us just like I pursued my wife. I mean, Jesus pursued me and he didn't force or coerce or bully or say, you know, Hey,
No, he did it in love. And that was the pattern by which I put into my life about finding a woman. So I would give a little Jesus speech right off the bat and see where that went. Because I knew, okay,
If this woman is going to marry me and we're going to fulfill our roles and have a happy marriage, I think we're going to have to do it God's way. So that was my intent. And I met a woman who was 100% in agreement. Yeah. And so that's how it happened. So then it says, therefore, honor God with your body. What's interesting is in 6.9,
He started the whole section saying, well, what if, you know, you've messed up and you have been immoral and you have done all these things? And this is Phil knows this verse very well.
Verse 9, when he said, don't be deceived, neither sexual, moral, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, thieves, greedy, drunkards, slanders, swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and of God. So he talked about this conversion process.
That happens. So it tells you out there, there's two conversations when it comes to sex. You have a conversation for those who are in Jesus and then a conversation of those who are not in Jesus. They're not in Jesus. Let's face it. Look at our world. Anything goes. But once you surrender to Jesus, you're now saying he's the son of God and you're going by what God says is the standard of
for morality, culture, families. And look, at the end of the day, whether you believe in God or not, life would be better if the foundation of our culture were husbands and wives who had these roles and who were loving their kids and showing them Jesus and the loyalty to each other. And you just look around, it would be a more...
I think it would be a better, it would be a healthier place. You have in this context here too, I mean, I think Paul's argument actually goes beyond just the morality of it. Paul anchors the argument in the actual purpose and the design of all of it. And when he's, that's what, the picture here, and we mentioned this in the last several podcasts about Ephesians, you know, this whole idea in Ephesians about
One, you know, different diverse groups becoming one Gentile Jew and Gentile becoming one male and female becoming one husband and wife becoming one so that you can't get past this oneness part of this, because in verse 15, he kind of makes that argument. He says, don't you know that your bodies are.
He's talking about oneness here. Never. You're not going to do that. Or don't you know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one with her in body?
For it is written, the two shall become one flesh. But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one with him in spirit. So the reason why it says free sexual immorality is because he's saying that what sexuality was meant for is for the two to become one. And there's a verse in Malachi.
which is really talking about Israel and Edom and Malachi. But there's this really interesting verse where he has a correlation between
to marriage and to the sexual union in Malachi chapter two. And he says, he talks about this. He says, you, you, you divorced the, the wife of your youth. Um, he says, did you, did, did he not make them one? This is in Malachi, uh, two, um, 15, that he not make them one with a portion of the spirit in
in their, here's the word, union. So what's the purpose of it? What was the whole purpose of it? It was union. And what was that one God seeking? What was the one God seeking, the one who made them one in union? What was the purpose, the question that they're asking, the prophet's asking here, what was the purpose of this union? And here's the answer. I love this. Godly offspring.
That's the purpose of the union. The purpose of the union is godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. And so when you think about the purpose of the sexual union, it is for the connection of intimacy and oneness. What's the purpose of the oneness? It's to create intimacy.
more life. You say, man, I wonder where that came from. Well, you can look inside the Godhead and see where that came from. That is a picture of who God is, that God is three distinct persons that are one in being. And the result of that
Entire who God is, is just life and life abundantly is just a fountain of overflowing life. And when we take sexuality and we turn it inward in on ourselves and we end up in kind of I would call like a porn culture where it's completely disassociated, even with an actual person that you're actually experiencing sex.
the physical sexual pleasures literally by looking at a screen and this is where our culture is headed the whole thing is built around isolation and death and lifelessness and sterility and instead what God says no I have come to give you life and life abundantly I think it's a beautiful picture of who God is

Zach, you and I, I think we've mentioned this before, but one time you and I were going on a trip and we picked up a Time magazine at the airport, and one of us did, and we read this article that was in it. It got our attention because it said, is porn destroying America? And in the article, it was about these young men who had started looking at porn on their phones and devices when they were very young. I mean, most of them said they were started even before they were 10 years old.
And so now they were in their 20s. Now, these gods know we're mentioned in the, this has nothing to do with spiritual. This is Time Magazine, you know, some reporter. But they were all, they were impotent. They weren't able to have sex with their girlfriends, their wives, whatever. They're starting to, you know, begin their relationships. And they could only perform with porn, not with actually a live person.
And it's a plague, you know, so these people were talking about they were banding together, remember Zach, and forming these groups, you know, to try to help each other, you know, try to have support groups for it and all this. And I'll bet you the Bible is just purely pragmatic. Just pragmatic. Yeah. Right. It wasn't even a spiritual thing, but it just shows you to the point we're making about what happens when the evil one
And that's that idea that James brought up about the impurity. When the evil one gets involved in this, that's what you'll see. And what happens is you've got decisions being made. Paul made the point clear in Romans 1 when he removes himself out. In other words, okay, this is what you're going to do. This is what you've decided. It's going to be this lifestyle. It's going to be sex with whoever, whenever, however. And he's out of the equation. It says his wrath is revealed.
And, but all that is, is that he's not there. We, we see the results of the wrath and what we see in. Yeah. It's the turning over to yourself. And I think that what's happening, this is an interesting topic. I've been reading on a lot lately. This it's, there's a, a,
I think he's a French philosopher. I don't know what he was, a writer. But he wrote about this thing called, his name was Rene Girard. And he wrote about, get your cricket noise out because I'm going to say a term here. He wrote about a term that he called memetic desire. Memetic? Memetic desire. Memetic? Memetic. Memetic. No, mem. Mem. M-I-M. Memetic. Matty's putting it on the screen. Put it on the screen.
There's the cricket noise. But I found his work, and I'm not completely agree with everything he said, obviously, but a lot of what he wrote about is this idea that desire...
Is actually mimicked. All of our desires are mimicked and we don't really know how to have a desire for something like originally. And why didn't he just say that? Well, he was he was a French philosopher. I don't know. Maybe he got lost in translation. But the idea of it is, is that.
Like what we desire, we desire because we're mimicking others. And you think about like with your kids, if you had a bunch of toys in a room and maybe it was even the same exact toy, two of the same exact toys and the kids playing with one of one of the little toy cars and
And he gets tired of playing with it. He throws the car down. And then somebody else, another kid, comes in the room and picks up that car. What does that kid immediately do every time? He wants that car back. Even though there's one just like it beside it. And the point is that we want. And even though it could sit there all day and he never picks it up until that other kid does. Yeah, exactly. And I think with sexuality even, like you think, man, why do I want the things I want? A lot of this is mimicked.
And the input that we're letting into our lives and the things that we're entertaining and just the constant scrolling on TikTok and Instagram or whatever it is that like that's shaping your imagination for for consumption of something. And I think what if you're going to walk in, because a lot of this is like when you think you talk about the porn stuff and all that. I mean, look, let's face it.
Most people probably listen to this podcast. You've looked at porn. I'm not saying everybody has, but a lot, a lot of us have. So you're listening to that. And a lot of times you hear these, I would hear something like this and I would feel like this immediate shame in my life, you know, but I think the key is this is, is, is to start to understand, man, I don't, you don't have to have the, the desires that you currently have. Like God can reshape those desires.
Through new habits and rhythms and liturgies and God does reshape our desires. That's actually what worship truly is. It's a rhythm. It's a pattern of life that by doing it, you're able to distinguish is offering your body's
as a living sacrifice to God, holy and pleasing to him. And then you'll be able to discern what's good from evil. And so there is hope in this. You can read these passages and be like, oh my gosh, man, I'm done because I know what I've done. I know what I desire. I know what I want. I know what's in my heart. And Paul's like, no, that's what you were. And some of you may be even trying to go back to that. And Paul's like, don't go back to that. Be renewed in your mind. The whole picture here is perfect.
painting a picture to help us have an imagination for a life in Christ, which means it's a life, it's oneness, it's connection. And the younger that you can figure out exactly what Zach just said, the younger you can start doing that, the better off you're going to be. Because you don't set in bad patterns into your life that you have to do. To explain in a simpler way, I heard a
philosopher once say uh this was mac owen who looks a lot like me and phil was he part of the no he he said i remember him in a sermon saying he's the uh he now leads the celebrate recovery program the whole the whole thing yeah he said why do men scroll and
flick channels on the like why do you scroll on the internet and why do you channel surf he said they're looking for flesh so i could have saved you five minutes that the mimicking is you're looking for for flesh and when you find it you stop and ponder
So we're going to have Max going to be on the podcast. He's coming in. It was good advice. Yeah. Because I thought to myself, yeah, if I'm flicking the channels and you see a suggestive woman,
You stop. Yeah. It proved his point. You can do what I did, just throw the device that way. Yeah. Flash it off. That was one of the many reasons why about four years ago, I just said goodbye to social media. There's no, I'm not scrolling anymore.
Yeah. You know. We're going to be looking for good things. Because it's just a matter of time. All it takes is time. And why even put that in your mind? Yeah. All right. Well, speaking of time, we're out of it. So we'll see you next time on our show. We're out of time. We're out of time.
