Chapters
Jase recounts a teal hunting trip where a cultural difference in time-telling between him and Jersey Joe caused confusion. They discuss how people in New Jersey say "10 of 8" to mean 7:50, while in Louisiana, that phrasing doesn't make sense. The confusion led to some humorous miscommunication in the duck blind.
  • Cultural differences in time-telling can lead to confusion.
  • In New Jersey, "10 of 8" means 7:50.
  • This time-telling convention is not common in Louisiana.

Church's original recipe is back. You can never go wrong with original.

Still tastes the same like back in the day. Right now, get two pieces of chicken starting at only $2.99 or 10 pieces starting at only $10.99. Churches. Offer valid at participating locations. I am unashamed. What about you? Welcome back to Unashamed. We've traded. I don't know if it's a trade.

Up or a trade down? It was a trade for a person to be named later, which turned out to be Jersey Joe. We traded Zach for Jersey Joe. Zach decided he had some important calls he had to make this morning. Is that what his excuse was? I guess. You know, with Zach, I'm just guessing. He's a little flaky. So disappointed I had a riddle using too big word.

That kind of has a joke. That's what I was worried about. So do I have to come up with these long words? You probably better just stay away from that. We argued through a whole podcast last week. Well, here's what the funny thing is, which I'll remind you of that. Was it 2 Corinthians 4 where it says the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but of power. Yep. So we've already had a two-day podcast.

teal season argument about what time it is. I knew this was coming. Because what we've noticed is that in New Jersey, it's a different time than it is in Louisiana. Yeah, it's an hour. Not because it's on the eastern coast. Oh, there's something. There's another difference? We found out something that

It's very hard to wrap your head around. So that song, nobody really knows what time it is. They don't know what time it is in New Jersey, and I'm going to tell you why. We're from New Jersey listening, so we had a bunch of teal come in Saturday opening day. I don't think we've announced this, have we? Teal season has begun. It was last Friday. And I did have my teal hunting clothes on.

That's the opening of teal season. The movement of teal hasn't started yet. No, but we did get a bunch of teal in on opening day. Yep. And most of the times teal fly between 645 a.m. and 730. Yep. That is the prime window. Well, 645 came and went and 730 came and went and we did not see a duck.

Which typically you wouldn't see anything unless there's a front. But at 7.50, also known as 10 minutes until 8 o'clock, we get a bunch of teal and nobody saw them. I heard them because most of the people in our blind can't hear. We're hunting in a thicket. Well, and that was going to bring that problem up. What happened was, which I thought my first initial reaction was we have the decoys too close.

Because what we call coffee beans, I'm not sure what the official name of those weeds are. I think it's coffee bean. I think that's a slang. We've had this discussion before. I know one thing you don't want to do with the coffee beans, pull them out with your bare hands for a whole season. Yeah, there's some kind of fungus on them that will... Jay's hands, I mean, they turn purple. Yeah, and my nose ran and...

You know, it was itchy. Yeah. So wear gloves if you're going to pull them out of your duck hole. And I thought it could be a problem. But anyway, 7.50, I hear, and I said, teal, teal. I didn't see them. I just knew by the sound. And so you got to remember, everybody in the blind thought it was over. We were going to stay to 8 o'clock just because it was opening day. So when I looked up, I'd say seven seconds later, they were coming in.

right to left, through the coffee beans, into the decoys. But unfortunately, they're so low that I knew when everybody stood up, they're not going to see them. Because I barely could see them. So I waited and decided to let them light so everybody could get their guns on the teal. So they lit, and I just started counting. I went one, two, three. We all shot. Boom.

But I noticed the one I shot, because he was on my side, which is when you're, some of you are not familiar with duck hunting, you're supposed to shoot whatever quadrant. Stay in your lane, bro. So the far left duck was the one I shot, which turned out to be, after getting everybody's opinion, the duck that everybody shot. Oh, boy. Because it was dead. Oh, boy.

I wonder where this story was going. I just saw through the bushes movement like that, and I knew it was tail. So I just cut the top of the bushes out, and my pellets went toward him. There are unconfirmed reports. I didn't shoot for one shot. There's unconfirmed reports, but we do have two decoys that are filled with shot. Yeah. So that's another thing that developed. There's only one bunch we got, but most of the story. How many ducks were in the bunch?

We're guessing at five. Okay. It was only five. And we shot. And everybody shot. So you got one duck. No, we got three. We got three of the five. But on the initial blast, we only got two. But one of them, I assumed, was married to one of the ones that died because we shot at the five teal and got two. And one of them just turned right back around and came in after gunfire. And so-

It was a noble death. Blue-winged tail aren't the smartest of them. I think that blue-winged tail said, I just don't think life can go on without my partner. So I thought that was a spiritual, you know. Well, it kind of fits with our text we're getting into. Yeah, exactly. So we got three. And two decoys. And two decoys. So somebody went on the count of three.

They picked out our brand new decoy. We had two dozen brand new decoys, and now we have 22. And nobody has claimed that. Jersey said, I might have. But then. Which means he did it. No, no, no, no, no, no. Possibility. Small possibility. So to get back to the reason I was telling that story. So Phil said, what time did that happen? And Jersey Joe said, 10 of 8. And I said, no, we got 3 out of 5.

He said, no, 10 of 8. You can't get 10 out of 8. And he said, no, that's what time it is. I said, 10 of 8? I've never heard that slogan used as a time reference in my life. And he said, people in New Jersey, that's how they tell time. I said, well, people in Jersey don't know what time it is then. I think people in America use that because according to the meaning of time, Google search,

Northern U.S. before the hour of until 20 minutes of five. It seems like the phrase could have originated meaning basically that it is short of eight o'clock, perhaps 10 minutes shy of eight o'clock. Yeah. So you know what that means to me? You know what that means to me? Yeah.

Yeah. Somebody from New Jersey wrote that. Oh, it's the same problem. Somebody was smoking dope to get that. Well, I know we have Northern listeners on, and I'm sure in the comments you will hear people say that that is a correct way to tell time.

But not in Louisiana, because all that did was cause mayhem and confusion on how you get 10 things out of 8. You'd have thought we'd have hit 20 ducks. They were all up in arms, and I was just like the guy sitting at the end with my head down, because all I just said was 10 of 8. And they talked about it for about a half hour.

So it no longer was 10 of 8 by the time the conversation was over. So would you say they talked about it until 8.20? Yeah, about 20 after. Or 40 of 9. See, there you go. So 5 of 8 would be 5 minutes until it's 8 o'clock. That's correct. We're just now wrapping our heads around this. And in Jersey Joe's defense, people were a little bit, I mean, they weren't angry because we didn't think we were going to shoot any. So we were happy.

But usually, men of our reputation, we should have gotten all five of the teal. Yeah, that's correct. But the brush, the... You had mitigating factors. The duck identification process, which is embarrassing. Because I'll tell you this. Well, the first hunt when you got brand new decoys. I didn't shoot it. I noticed I wasn't there when they put the decoys out. But the ones who put the decoys out...

The blind was completely enveloped with coffee beans.

Yeah. And I'm looking through just a jungle. Well, I just look over to my left to the other end of the blind in front of Jace. It was just the right level. It is. Trimmed. Well, I wonder how that happened. Trimmed his side, but left mine like here. Look, my eyes look like that. His look like this. Dad, you know what I tell you about that? Welcome to the middle.

You're now a middle person. He's not being a greedy individual. I said, oh, he's young. I learned that tactic from one Phil Robertson. You did. You learned it well. Because Phil, to his credit, said, which there were two things said before daylight that we should have factored in. Jay and the nurse man. I was wondering who the other. Put the decoys out.

And I said, I'm going to lay money on nurse man for one of the decoys. I said, I think you love Chad, but no, it wasn't in his quadrant. I feel like he he's, I feel like the N three guys, me, Jay and nurse was in the middle. So you're pointing a finger across the table. I'm saying, I think one of these two individuals, perhaps both shot a decoy. I shot an alive teal decoy.

I know this for a fact because I use special loads, okay? That identify teal? No, no, no, no, no. I have computerized shells, okay, that the shot inside of them is computerized, and it's duck tracking load, DTL loads. I've invented it, and I'm using it, so I know I hit a live bird. Really? Yeah. Why is this now the first time I'm hearing about this? Because it's still a prototype. Oh, okay.

Well, he's been sitting some time with Si now. Well, I once saw my Uncle Si, who after we were trying to put a prank, I put three shells while he was sleeping in a blind that were loaded with baking powder. And he, you know, ducks came in, which I wasn't counting on that happening right after we did it. And he did something that really we should go as...

Guinness Book of World Records, I guess. Yeah. Because he killed, according to him, two teal with loaves that were filled with baking powder. That's impressive. Yeah. Yeah.

That's a good shoot. Because I said, Si, we... They're already prepped to cook. I said, well, boys, I went two for two. And I was like, you see all this powder everywhere? We put those in your gun as a prank. He said, well, they must have been defective because both ones I pulled on died, Jack. I believe him because there are some times that all you need to do is when it's someone of the stature of Si or myself, when we raise our weapon...

the ducks are scared and they die of a heart attack. That's your best option. But the two things spoken, I said, I think the decoys are too close to the blind. But it just was said and nothing happened, which I take responsibility for that. I should have went and moved them. And Phil said, I think we need to put some of these coffee beans down a little bit so we can shoot. But then I said, well, we got to think about duck season because teal are not very bright.

And you can get away with a lot. So I was thinking if we tear up. There you go, shooting them and one of them flying back. That kind of proves your point. But I didn't want to pull down the coffee beans because I was thinking in the regular duck season, we're going to need that brush. We're out in the middle of a ball open field. And I figured, I actually thought, we're probably not going to get any tail anyway. So let's don't tear down the brush before daylight. But that was a problem. So we did move the decoys.

for today's hunt we didn't hunt yesterday which was sunday but unfortunately today was a foggy foggy day yeah misty fog since teal fly early

We had a problem just getting down here to go hunting because of the fog. Because Jersey Joe's a big technology man, so you'll appreciate this. You know what I spent 40 minutes doing on the way down here this morning? What's that? Listening to my pre-collision alert go off on my truck every five seconds. It couldn't see, so-

And it's flashing on all my screens, pre-collision alert. I never even knew that's a thing. Well, I didn't either. That's how you discover it. Let's take a first break. We've been talking a lot about spiritual warfare battles that we've been studying in our text in Ephesians 6. And I don't think we see that any more clearly than we do in this battle over abortion.

and life. I think that's, you know, it's not just an attack on babies. It's an attack on the entire pro-life movement. It's an attack on young women, young men. And what we try to do is help them make better decisions. And Preborn, which is one of our sponsors, they stand as a beacon of hope for the most defenseless among us, and that's Preborn babies. I mean, how can you not fight for them, right? I mean, that's what this whole thing is about.

Every day, Preborn's network of clinics rescues, on average, over 200 babies while surrounding expectant mothers with God's love and offering a free ultrasound. And I do love that the pro-life movement is now very much pro-love, and that's what we want.

Witnessing the miracle of life has never been more crucial as we navigate this time of moral decline in our nation. We want you to join Preborn in protecting the least among us. For just $28, you can sponsor an ultrasound and give a mother the chance to choose life, not only for her baby, but also for herself.

An ultrasound doubles a baby's chance at life. So we want to join these guys. Let's help them out. Help mothers choose life. To donate, dial pound 250 and say the keyword baby. That's pound 250, keyword baby. Or go to preborn.com slash unashamed. That's preborn.com slash unashamed. So I started pre-born.

halfway into that, I started trying to talk to whatever was doing this because I thought maybe they're listening. I was like, it's the fog. You were talking to your truck. Yeah. Did it answer? No. But I mean, if you had a drove by me, you thought, who's he talking to? I was talking to my truck. I was like, I get it. You think I'm fixed to run into something because it was almost scary. You were not talking to your truck. You were arguing with your truck. I was arguing with my truck and I was trying to find a volume button. Yeah.

Because it was so loud. I mean, just think about driving in your truck for 40 minutes. That would be insane. Every five seconds, it's saying pre-collision alert, please. You could turn that off, you know. Well, I might need it if I was actually fixed to collide with something. I'm just saying. Yeah.

Would you know how to turn it off? Oh, yeah. You would? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can adjust it, too. It's similar to when... I don't think I will. You know how when you don't have your seatbelt fastened, which I wear my seatbelt properly fastened? I've heard contrary to that. I'm fixed to go to trial over that. Yeah. But I don't want to bring that up again.

But we're only a couple weeks away from that. I'll keep you posted. I'm waiting with bated breath. But I once put a case of shells in the passenger seat, and then every five seconds, the seatbelt alarm would go off. And I couldn't figure it out, which tells you I'm not very bright. So halfway into the trip, I finally realized why...

It keeps going off. Because you thought it was you the whole time, but it was me. I'm like, I have my seatbelt fastened. Again, arguing with the truck. Again, yeah. Have you ever heard the saying, Joe, argue with the signpost? Yeah. Jace would argue with the truck. But it didn't do you any good. The law wrote that she told you to take it anyway. That's going there. You got her seatbelt on. He says, I'm riding you down. I'm charging you with...

No seatbelt on. This is my closing argument, Phil. I'm going to say, you know all those big billboards that we passed this morning on our way to court? Click it or tick it. It says click it or tick it.

It's a lie. It's a big conspiracy. It's a big conspiracy. Chase has been dropping some of his speech, Joe, from the podcast. He's been practicing. That wasn't enough for the law enforcement. Maybe I should tell that story that I actually pulled off, used my blinker, and I put my seatbelt around that case of shotgun shells to protect it and to get the noise. You could have just put the case on the floor.

Well, I had too much stuff in the floor. Have you seen my truck? Have you seen this truck? Yeah. You got to find a place. Yeah. We heard, we heard his defense. Uh, we, you know, one of the great things about hunting, duck hunting with this group is, you know, when you have probably the best time when no ducks come in, because the level of conversation that we have in the blind is,

Very godly. We talk about the gospel. We talk about all things. But today, Jace insisted on giving us his defense that he was going to give to the judge as to why he should not have to pay for the ticket.

And how he was going to defend himself. So let me ask you this. Joe, if you were the judge. So you're the judge. There's no jury. So you're the judge. You heard the argument today. You hadn't heard from the other side, but you know what they're going to say. So would you say click it or tick it? I would say that, you know.

You are using it opposite of the way that it is supposed to be used. So I think you're going to have to pay that $20 fine. Opposite is a strong word.

It's left to interpretation. And it's going to be more than 20. Let me just go ahead and drop that in here. It's going to be about 250 once you take it to court because you've got to pay the court cut. Well, I hope you're not. Are you on jury duty? Have you been summoned for jury duty? You better make sure this one doesn't make it onto your jury, Jay. Well, we'll have to see. So Jersey, I call him now Jersey-in-law because Jersey Joe is my in-law now.

His son married my granddaughter. So he's in the family, Dad. Our family. It's official. He's in the family. And so, Dad, this is part of your family. This is when you raise your kids right. This is my daughter sent this for you because you said her pumpkin bread is one of the best. I mean, it is fine. So last night I came in. She didn't cook much for about 20 years, but when she broke out.

It was there all the time. She's good. Yeah, she's got to be a good cook. And Joe can cook. His family are good cooks as well. I come in last night. I'm coming in from the road. Jay's cooking some hamburgers. And so he walks over. This is when you know you did your job right. Jay comes over, and he's got two doves. He had taken them off the smoker while he was smoking the hamburgers, and there's just two. He said, well, this is all me and Jay's got.

Did he say me and Jace? That's what he said. I'll tell you, I'm proud of that fellow. Boy, I'll tell you that back story. So he had two doves, and he said, so all we got was two.

He said, and so he ate one and he gave me one. And cause I'm the powder for me. Was it good? Oh, was it good? I mean, I've been so hungry for doves and even just the one, it was just, it was smoked perfectly at a little candied jalapeno wedge in there. It was delicious. So the first dove hunt we went on, cause you gotta remember, I've been a bachelor for six days now because my wife, uh, one, she's,

trying to deal with when the tornado hit our house in Nashville. And one of us has got to be there. It's been quite the mess to clean up. But I've been real proud of her. She's using this tragedy to really get to know the neighbors. And she was telling me some of the things that she was doing. But one of the things is she made all my neighbors, like on our side of the road, this is about five families, she made them neighbors.

Her famous cornbread, which I think is one of the greatest concoctions in the world. We actually did an episode about that on cooking with the Robertsons. Yep. Visit, blaze, bonus, whatever. So, and she, but she bought the skillets, those black cast iron skillets at these estate sales. I mean, they just don't realize what they have and they're just giving them away. And so she gives them the cornbread and the skillet.

which automatically improves your cooking skills. So I thought, babe, now that is awesome. But I've noticed in the past few years, she schedules these trips in and around opening days of duck season. And I figured it out. She just doesn't want to deal with it. So Joe, it's 2024. Do you know the shape of your liver?

See, I just, he intuitively knows that he's got a fatty liver. Usually when you're like me, Joe, when it's fat everywhere, you know that the liver is probably not doing so well. Zach and I found this out as well. We had our liver enzyme numbers go high. And here's the problem with fatty liver. The American Heart Association says you're three and a half times more likely to have heart failure than

If you have fatty liver, it affects 100 million Americans, which puts a lot of people at risk. Everything gets thrown at your liver. But now she's not participating in the hoopla of when the ordeal begins. And I thought, you know, that's... She has punted the ordeal. She just punts. Your mother will be leaning back in a chair.

She'd be looking up at the ceiling. She's been kind of sickly lately. But she'll say something like that. Is it here yet? She's speaking of duck season. Is it here yet? I said, four days out. She says, hmm. She doesn't even stir now. I took her some Chick-fil-A this morning. She's still asleep. She's just like, let you go. My point is, I've kind of been on my own here. And I don't really like fast food, with the exception of Chick-fil-A. But...

Just because they seem to kind of line up with the values. It's Jesus chicken. Yes, Jesus chicken. And they're nice. And it's decent. So I try to live off the land. And it's hunting season. We do this every year. We wait nine months and we follow the hunt. So Jay and I went and killed about 10 doves. And we killed about the same amount. And he gave one to me, which was very nice. And I ate all 10 doves.

They are fine. It's my favorite wild game. We go back the second time, same hole, a week later, and that's where we shot two. And I say we lightly because here's what happened. I can't believe he didn't tell you this. So we set up two spinners, you know, the little dove spinners. And when we walked out there, the guy gave us permission to hunt his field, but he wasn't there, which I took that as a bad sign because I thought, hmm, if it was a bunch of doves here, why isn't he here?

Should have known. There you go. Here's your sign. This field is a mile long of which we walked. We didn't have a rig or anything. So it was pretty well a workout just to get set up. But right in the back, very far corner, when we got back there, about 12 doves got up. So I was like, perfect. This is where they're going to be. So we set up the two spinners, but the wind was blowing about 30 miles an hour.

So here came one just whistling, and he got almost to my, like Jay's in front of one spinner, I'm in front of the other spinner, and he got in between them, and it turned toward his. So it was a little too far, but I thought, I didn't come out here to conserve shells, so I shot at it one time. And all it did was just immediately turn it toward Jay, and it just came right in on Jay. Boom. He missed the first shot, got him the second shot. I said, well, he got him.

But I technically missed. Well, the second one, about five minutes later, he came in on mine and he was what we call pie plating, which is like in a big wind, if you threw a pie plate, like a paper plate up in the air, it would be very hard to hit that. Well, that's the way he came into the mojo. And I missed him point blank range because he zigged when I zagged.

And then I just, my instincts took over, but he went from 30 yards to 60. Boom. I shot, but he went down. He was just dipping and darting, headed toward Jay. Jay missed him the first shot, second shot, boom, folded. So you know how this works because we never shot another dove. It was two doves came in and Jay shot both of them and both of them were ones that I missed. Yeah.

so do you realize how long that story we had to revisit 40 minutes on the way home so there I was just watching Jay's myth I was like Jay there's nobody else here I was there we all saw it he's like I'm trying to make up and he did not tell me that I'm really surprised because he told me the whole story that I just saw

In graphic detail. He did tell me somebody brought in 45 more that he's going to be cooking up this week, so I'm going to be eating a few more. We meant to let you know when that happened. I was going to say one that you brought up about the skillet for the cornbread. And so we moved into this new house. And so my good friend Eddie down there, Eddie and Joyce, they brought us some gumbo.

over for us to eat because there's boxes there where it's hard to cook and all that we didn't gumbo good delicious this eddie can cook so i said well look we'll do the rice you know we we got enough cleared out of the kitchen we'll do the rice and y'all bring the gumbo so we go in get the rice going and of course never cooked on this before well i'm looking there's no buttons on it i'm like well how you turn the thing on looking around you know

Finally, I look and written on the top of it, there's an off and on. So I hit the off and on. So things light up. It looked like a starship. But I'm like, are there burners? What is this? So I was like, call the guy that we bought the house from. Because, you know, he had been telling us, you know, the owners, we met him. So he tells us different things about the house. We never said anything about the stove. And so she calls. She said, we're trying to cook some rice here. We can't even get the thing to turn on.

He said, oh, yeah. He said, well, you've got to have the right kind of, a certain kind of pot. Ah, it's an induction. Induction. Yeah. And I was like, what? A certain kind of pot? Of course, the one we were setting on there, it wouldn't turn on. And so I said, what? So then I started looking into it. So it's inductive heat, which I've figured out now what they've done.

They're trying to make an electric range burn as hot as gas does. And it does once you figure it out. But my thing was, will a cast iron skillet work? Because if not, this stove is going right out the back door. You can't cook with cast iron. We're done here. But you can cook with cast iron. It works. It's like a clever way to sell a crappy pan. Yeah.

Actually, it's expensive, James. You've got to go high dollar. So you've got to buy these special ones that will induct you. Well, I just believe a cast iron is the best skillet. But I'll say this. Since I'm Zach today, right, so the technical reason behind it is you're creating a circuit when you put that pot on the induction stove. And you need to have the correct type of pot that has the correct type of metal to complete the circuit to generate the heat to cook the food.

And it's also a safety thing because as soon as you take the pot off of it, the bottom part of the stove immediately goes cold. You know, you listen to Jersey Joe and you just want to buy what he has. So here's what I'm saying. Since I'm Zach today, that's how it works. Here's my response to that. All right. Well, tell us about y'all's day yesterday because that was the best thing that happened this weekend. It was a good day, Phil. Yeah. Yep.

Are y'all going to tell us about it? Yeah, well, I was waiting for Phil to start, and I would fill in the blanks, but that's fine. Now, y'all go together, Neverson. Yeah, we do. Is this how it works? I didn't realize that most of our audience were female. You're talking about at the church gathering. This is the Unashamed Bible Study. It happens every Sunday morning. One hour before. And I decided just on the way up there that we would talk about

the book of Ephesians, because we've been here in the podcast. So I said, well, let me just tell these girls. I started pretty quickly to get to wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband's the head of the wife.

As Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he's the Savior. You got dual in contrast here. We're married to Jesus. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Don't get nervous, girls. I said husbands.

They're told to love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water. He was speaking of the baptism. So when the smoke cleared, 10 were baptized and seven of them were women. And I noticed that and I said, that's interesting. The women came, the husbands were not with them.

Most of them. Just a girl's trip or something. It's a girl's trip. So they just happened to meet at the time. Now they'll have eternal life. I never really thought about that, but that's exactly what that passage is talking about. They took that straight to heart, as unto the Lord. Phil said it might have been something to do in the duck blind he was telling us about. He was like, might have been.

That's something to do with them wives submit to your husband. I was like, well, I hope it had something to do with them marrying Jesus. Which is really what that text is talking about. Way more than the emphasis that's been put on. It's a very powerful text. It is. Disclaimer here, right? So.

When Phil read that passage, I looked immediately at my wife and I grinned. Men who are listening to this that are married, do not take that out of context and make sure that when you go to your wife and say, well, Bible says you need to do everything I say and submit to me, and your wife will give you a really strange look and you might cause some bigger problems.

We've done a lot of podcasts. Is that a fair statement, Dad? I never even heard the word podcast until y'all told me about it. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Podcast. Or you can visit Focus on the Family with JimDaily.com. Start making a difference in your family's life today. That's Focus on the Family with JimDaily.com. Trust us, you're going to love it. I can say this because I know Joe so well. We spend so much time together. Joe, you're a perfect example of what we talked about when we were back in that text.

of what a man does to become a respectable man in Christ and that his wife would want to follow his lead. You see what I'm saying? I mean, you are that guy. Husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies.

He who loves his wife loves himself. He cares about how he would feel if someone, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church. For we're members of one body. For this reason, the man leave his father and mother be united to his wife. And here's what he aims for or should. And I think we got that across because they cried.

The two will become one flesh, husband and wife. It's a profound mystery. But I'm talking about Christ and the church on how we are to be for Jesus. So if you get seven out of ten that they're baptized and every sin they've ever committed is wiped clean, and they can take a deep breath and say, well, I'm on my march. It's life-changing. So hopefully they will...

come together with their husband in a little more tranquil way, not get so stirred up over little small things. It's not worth having a fight over. See, I mean, what we really focus on in our Bible study is bringing people to Jesus who have not come to Jesus.

Preaching Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and getting them to understand what Jesus did for them, and then getting them to understand how important baptism is, and that that's the first step. And every time I close out, I always talk about how all of you getting baptized today need to remember that this is just the beginning of your journey with Christ.

You need to understand your responsibility here because you play a key role going forward in making sure that you teach others what you've learned and you get discipleship. You know, the last thing we want to do is baptize somebody and then kind of have them left in the dark. To go back to what Phil was saying, you know, I truly did not understand love, but I thought I did.

But until you can love Jesus first and know the powerful feeling that you get from loving Jesus, you can't possibly love anyone else. So you can't be truly in your wife's life and love your wife truly until you know love like the love that Jesus has given us. And that's what it's all about. Jesus needs to be first in your life because if he is not...

in my opinion, it's just not a life. You're living and walking in a fog because you're missing the whole point. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power, the way we ended it up. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, and I think we convinced this group of women of that, but against the rulers, the authorities,

and the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm therefore put on the pull of our god so it was a it was a good lesson for those ladies and i've been praying for them ever since they were baptized so

Well, the idea. They were from all kinds of different locations, states and whatever. That's the beauty. And by the way, we've said this before. We invite you guys. Anytime you want to come to West Monroe, these two guys are going to be doing this class. They're there every Sunday. Sometimes me or Jason may be up preaching as well as a bonus for good or good or bad, depending on how we do. Joe, I've said this before on the podcast when you've been on this idea about leading by submission.

is a Jesus thing, because that's what he did. And it's also, even going back, it's an Abraham thing, it's a faith thing. And you're a perfect example of leading by submission. You're a man's man, you're a fire chief, everything the way you were, but you came to a point in your life where you said, if my family stays here, it's not gonna be good. Something's lacking, something's missing. And so in your case,

You basically pulled an Abraham and said, I'm going to a country that I'm not even sure where I'm going, but I'm going.

And I want you to go with me. And eventually, it's funny now because first two of your children came and now your third is here. And I just look at it and the blessing of sometimes we have to make a move by submission. Yeah. And that's what you did. You submitted to Christ. I did. And it changed everything. And it's been a change for us too because now Joey's in our family. And so it's just, I appreciate you doing what you've done. I mean, I get chills. I get chills right now. I get chills whenever I think about- City slickers. I don't know.

Finds wilderness. City slicker finds wilderness. You know, there's people, people ask me all the time, you know, why, why did you, what made you make the decision to do what you were doing, to do what you did? And, you know, a lot of people are taken by, oh, well, you know, I would pay to be able to learn from Phil or sit in a duck blind with Jason and,

You know, I don't look at it like that. I look at the Robertson family as a group of, you know, very godly people who believe in what they say and you get what you get with them. What you see, what you hear is what you get. And so I don't look at it like I'm starstruck or anything like that. I approached the situation from Phil when I first met him. I said to him, I said, Phil,

I don't want an autograph. I don't want a picture. I'll never ask you for any of that. I said, all I want is for you to give me the knowledge that you have and help put me in the right direction because I'm medicated because I'm very anxious, anxiety. I'm just not happy in my life. And this is my last kind of resort thing kind of change to change my surroundings for a better life.

And I can assure everyone who's listening to this that when I submitted and I went down in that water and came up and I felt the Holy Spirit come into my body and I know Jesus walks with me. He is with me all the time. And quite honestly, he was with me in the past, but I didn't know it. You know, we talk about firefighters and police and military and what they do for us and how they're the hands of God doing God's work.

So I believe he was with me, but I didn't accept him the way I needed to. And when I met Phil, I accepted him. And then our relationship has continued to grow.

Under that auspices, right? And another Zach word. But now we've got to the point now where we know what each other are going to say. Now you're cooking ducks. And now I'm cooking ducks and, you know, hunting just about every morning. Well, and now you get to pay that forward by sharing with other people.

Chase, I don't know if this is true for you, but when my wife is on fire about something spiritually, it makes my life better. I think the Lord was right. She then completes you, Al. When she's happy, I'm usually happy. Exactly. And there's something about that spiritual growth, you know, that does amazing stuff. So there's an opportunity coming up for you guys out there listening to Unashamed, the women in your life, and of course, all of our female listeners as well, that you don't want to miss out on.

Based on Jesus's power. Where was that at? That he quoted that? It was 610, wasn't it? Yeah, finally be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. And just based on what Jersey was saying. Verse 10, 610. Yeah. I thought about 2 Corinthians 4 because you think, well, how does this happen? Because he might have been initially drawn to here's his family. There's something different about him. But it kind of talks about

The power, not so much as magic or, you know, like a movie, because he goes through these spiritual armor qualities, and then he asks that they pray for him. I mean, he was realizing just because you have the Holy Spirit in you and you're going to live forever and you have the armor, which I proposed last podcast, is Jesus. You become Jesus on earth.

through his spirit that doesn't mean you're not going to suffer you're going to be persecuted or struggle with fear or you know whatever life brings you but i thought of a couple of passages here in second corinthians 4 verse 1 it says since through god's mercy we have the ministry like what jersey said you know realizing that this becomes contagious

You get in, but then you have a responsibility to make God's presence known on this earth. That's the way he designed this. It says, we don't lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly, we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

And even if our gospel is veiled, it's veiled to those who are perishing. Then it brings up the aspect of the evil one. The God, little g, of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they can't see the glory of the gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. But we do not preach ourselves.

But Jesus Christ is Lord and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, let light shine out of darkness, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. And then verse 7 is the one I wanted. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. In the first chapter of 2 Corinthians, it says,

The word comfort is used in verse 3, verse 4, verse 5, verse 8, verse 6, verse comfort, comfort, comfort. And the last one is comfort in verse 7. That's one verse, verse 3. And it's all mentioned in the same thing. You say comfort.

There's a comfort with that. That's a powerful thing. Despite what's going on around you. Right. And I was just going to make the point, though, when you think about power and think of the armor of God as we're out sharing Jesus. And, you know, later on in 2 Corinthians, he would say that my power is made sufficient in weakness.

That's in 2 Corinthians 12. Remember when Paul had the thorn in his flesh and he went through all the things that have happened to me, been shipwrecked, been stoned. This was all in the name of Jesus. And in Ephesians here, writing this,

Or when he gets to verse 20, he's talking about, I'm an ambassador, a representative of God. And you still have comfort for following Jesus when all these things are swirling around. Right. It made me think that, you know what the real power of this is? And even in this armor, it's Jesus himself. Because think about, here's a guy who was here 2,000 years ago on the earth. I mean, even the non-Christians don't.

They were still counting time by. Believe he was here. They just, you know, there's debatable in their minds whether he did what he said he did. So here's a guy that was here 2,000 years ago that fast forward over 2,000 years. And there are people, y'all had 10 of them yesterday, surrendering to him. He ain't been here in 2,000 years.

And you even look at people who follow him who would risk their life for him. That's right. I would rather give up my life than denying. Yeah. Well, when you start trying to define power, now that's power. That's power. You hadn't been here in 2,000 years and you have millions of people that will lay down their life for you. Chase will be duck hunting forever, man. Exactly. But it just made me think that what people try to...

Take these individual qualities of the armor, but you become Christ and these character traits that we're going to get into detail at some point, I guess. Next podcast. But really, by getting into detail with them, you don't want to miss the big picture that it's how Jesus pulled off what he pulled off. These are the qualities that accomplish that. Jersey, we wouldn't even have known who you were until Jesus showed up. Well, you know,

So like when we did the, uh, the Bible study yesterday, I closed out with, uh, you know, we were talking about the armor of God and I closed out with, uh, Ephesians 6, 12, right? For where it says, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood against, we wrestle against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over the past darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil. That's an interesting part there. The spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places. Therefore,

Take up the whole armor of God that you will be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand firm. And when I read that, I said, you know, you're getting baptized today. You're reenacting a death, burial, and resurrection. You're coming out of that water. You're getting the Holy Spirit inside of you. No one is going to be able to not see evil or have evil not try to invade your life.

area, right? Because evil is everywhere. You know, Satan is out there. He is trying to trick us and, you know, just entice us in a way to, you know, uptake evil. And by, you know, when you start talking about the whole spiritual armor, you know, you have that protection of the Almighty, the Holy Spirit around you, and it protects you. And you need to accept that, and you do that by baptism. And in my opinion,

it shows that you can do anything in Christ, you know, and, and that's, that's really, in my opinion, what it was all about. And that's how, you know, when I explain to people, cause I always tell them, you know, again, I said it before, baptized baptism is the beginning, but it doesn't do you any good. If you don't understand what you're doing and really get a grasp on the power that's behind that and that Jesus is in you. And with Jesus, you can do anything.

But the armor is that protection that the Holy Spirit gives you against the evil one because he is trying every day to get you. And it will never change. And that's why the submission has to come first, which was where we started. You have to submit first to Christ. Then you begin that following step, which is what you guys are talking about. Since we're in 611, we're almost out of time. I will mention, Jason and I are wearing the...

611armory.com is where you go to Brian Robinson does his hats. And we've talked about him before because these gospel symbols are showing up everywhere across the Fruited Plains. And it really is just trying to get people to say, what is that? Yeah. And then you can tell them, right? So there was a guy, Maddie's going to show the picture. He's from Unashamed Nation. It says here he's from Florida. Yeah.

And he's got the gospel tattooed on his arm. It's quite the day. He did the symbols, but he wrote out the words. He don't have to buy a hat. No, he don't have to buy a hat. He decided to take the hat to another level. So however you guys are sharing, I love it because the whole idea is we are unashamed, which is what the podcast is about. So we're going to get into this text on the next podcast. So we'll see you then. Thanks for listening to the Unashamed Podcast.
