Expected dangers in the California wildfires. I'm Jack Callahan, Fox News. Encountered by the firefighting planes and their efforts to extinguish the wildfires. Fox's Grit Jenkins reports from the Pacific Palisades. Plane after plane, helicopter after helicopter dropping fire retardant along the fire line as the fire worked its way down the canyon in Mandeville Canyon, approaching homes. We were in a backyard. We're just feet away from the fire.
Flames were being battled from engulfing a house there. That is a problem. But another issue that we saw are the drones that continue to be launched and threatening those planes. The FBI releasing brand new photos to us yesterday showing that one drone, which you remember hit a super scooper a few days ago, that did a lot of damage.
Los Angeles County's prosecutor is vowing to punish everyone involved in criminal activities related to the wildfires. At least 16 people are dead because of the fires that have now scorched nearly 40,000 acres in Southern California. And Fox Weather's Adam Klotz says the forecast is not encouraging. We've got all sorts of wind alerts, wind advisories here as we go through the day. Currently looking at still fairly dry air in the hills, 15 to 20 percent as far as dew points go. That is a little bit more moist than it had been the last couple of days.
Unfortunately, that's going to be drying off as we head into the week ahead. Winds right now are calm, but I do want to let you know that unfortunately tonight, Monday into Tuesday, ultimately even Wednesday, we're back up to critical fire weather as we're looking at these winds continue to pick up here the next couple of days.
Investigations continue into how those fires started as officials face criticism over their preparations for a large fire event. Congressman Corey Mills planning on running for the Senate seat, now being held by Senator Marco Rubio, regardless of whom Florida Governor DeSantis picks for the post. Rubio's seat is expected to open up if he's confirmed to be Secretary of State. America is listening to Fox News.

A Wisconsin woman is about to be released from a psychiatric hospital more than a decade after she and a friend stabbed a classmate to please a fictional character. After years of requests to be let out of a psychiatric hospital, Waukesha County Judge Michael Boren says 22-year-old Morgan Geyser's conditional release will not pose a threat to the public.
The court's going to grant the release. I'm satisfied. Geiser, who was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, was 12 years old in 2014 when she and a friend stabbed a classmate 19 times, all to please the fictional character Slenderman. The friend, Anissa Weir, was granted a release in 2021 and ordered to wear a GPS monitor. The victim of the attack survived.
Jeff Manasso, Fox News. As President Biden begins his final week in office, he plans an address on foreign policy, as Fox's Jared Halperin reports from the White House. The president will make the short trip to the State Department Monday for a final foreign policy address that officials here say will describe how the administration reclaimed America's global leadership as a force of stability. He has some thoughts on the future, uh,
not just of the country, but how this country moves forward as a leader. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says President Biden has a 50-year career in foreign policy and managed crises around the world over the past four years. President-elect Trump has signaled dramatic shifts in U.S. foreign policy and last week indicated his desire for the U.S. to retake the Panama Canal and make Greenland
a U.S. territory. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. The president has awarded Pope Francis the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction. During a phone call in which they also discussed efforts to promote peace and alleviate suffering around the world, the president has also canceled a trip scheduled for Rome this week. I'm Jack Callahan, and this is Fox News.
