Today's also deadline day for countries and trade talks with the U.S. to avoid tariffs now on hold to give their best offers. I like President Xi of China, always have and always will, but he is very tough and extremely hard to make a deal with. That's Fox's Lucas Tomlinson. Now the Senate keeps working on what House Republicans and President Trump called one big beautiful bill. But Elon Musk, who led all the Doge federal cutbacks, calls that bill an abomination and says Congress could bankrupt the country.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune just told Fox the bill will spur a lot of economic growth and tax revenue. There's just a lot of analysis around this bill that isn't accurately reflecting what will happen when all these policies are put into place. And by the way, it will
be the biggest spending reduction in history. But some Senate Republicans demand even more spending cuts, word the bill will balloon the U.S. debt. Democrats, who all oppose the bill, say it cuts too much already and will take away health coverage and food assistance for millions of Americans. Days after the Boulder, Colorado terror attack, the family of the suspect, Mohammed Salamon,
is under scrutiny as well. Being investigated for what? If anything, they knew about his plot and... The State Department says that it has revoked the visas of Solomon's wife and five children who lived in Colorado Springs. They are being processed for expedited removal. For a third day in a row to start June, stocks are rising. Not a lot. The Dow is gaining 35 points. The Nasdaq also up 35, a nine-point increase for the S&P 500. The price of oil up around a quarter. It's further above 63 bucks a barrel. Gas is up.
a penny today. AAA's national average for regular at $3.14 a gallon is still two cents less than a month ago, 37 cents cheaper than a year ago. We got this update to the economy this morning. Payroll processing company ADP says hiring lost momentum last month, though wages continued to be robust.
Just 37,000 new jobs were created by private employers in May. Economists were expecting 110,000. The pace of hiring in May slipped to the lowest level since March of 2023, though annual pay rose 4.5%. ADP chief economist Neela Richardson says trade uncertainty is weighing on hiring, especially for small businesses, though she says that could reverse once that resolves.
The monthly employment report is released on Friday. The ADP report is not considered a preview of the Labor Department's numbers. Jenny Kosola, Fox News. Wildfires keep burning in Canada, and the smoke keeps spreading south of the border.
Wildfire smoke from Canada has had Minnesota among the top five worst cities in the world for air quality. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency advises anyone with health issues, including lung disease, asthma, heart conditions, to limit time outdoors. Air quality alerts cover most of Minnesota, all of Wisconsin and Iowa, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula through at least Thursday morning. While not affecting air quality levels, smoky skies have been reported in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Another side effect, vibrant orange-colored sunrises and sunsets from light being filtered by smoke particles.
