President Biden at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, offered a message of hope to the families and the city of New Orleans grieving the loss of 14 lives.
The president said as much as families will miss, there will be the day. And the memory of your loved one will bring a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye. It will take time, but I promise you.
I promise you it will come. The president also recognized the more than two dozen hurt and the responders who helped them, saying New Orleans, as it has before, will emerge from tragedy stronger. Suspect Shamsud Din Jabbar drove around barricades to ram New Year's partygoers. He was killed in a firefight with police.
At least six people have died as ice, snow and gusty winds envelop parts of the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic, knocking out power, making roads dangerous and closing schools. Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel are filing a federal lawsuit challenging the Biden administration decision to block a proposed yearly $15 billion plan for Nippon to acquire U.S. Steel. The companies are in a separate lawsuit claim that the CEO of steelmaking rival Cleveland Cliffs, along with the head of the United Steelworkers Union, worked together to halt the deal, and the suits claim the decision was political.
