Paying tribute to those lost. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. President Biden traveled to New Orleans to attend an interfaith service for those killed in the New Year's Day terror attack in the French Quarter. President Biden at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, offered a message of hope to the families and the city of New Orleans grieving the loss of 14 lives.
The president said as much as families will miss, there will be the day. And the memory of your loved one will bring a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye. It will take time, but I promise you.
I promise you it will come. The president also recognized the more than two dozen hurt and the responders who helped them, saying New Orleans, as it has before, will emerge from tragedy stronger. Fox's Grinnell Scott. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrell has ordered an investigation into security lapses and safety measures that were in place before the attack. Suspect Shamsud Din Jabbar drove around barricades to ram New Year's partygoers. He was killed in a firefight with police.
At least six people have died as ice, snow and gusty winds envelop parts of the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic, knocking out power, making roads dangerous and closing schools. Fox weather meteorologist Nick Kosir is in Washington. This is going to be one of the bigger snowstorms that this area has seen for quite some time, possibly upwards of a decade. And all the snow on the ground is going to stick around for quite some time. Temperature is going to stay below freezing right through the weekend.
Tomorrow, the wind picks up and blowing and drifting could become a concern. The snow and ice impacting air travel with Washington's Reagan Airport closing its runway so crews could clear the snow. The U.S. has transferred 11 Yemeni men who were held for more than two decades at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay to Oman. The men had not been criminally charged. Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel are filing a federal lawsuit challenging the Biden administration decision to block a proposed yearly $15 billion plan for Nippon to acquire U.S. Steel. The companies are in a separate lawsuit claim that the CEO of steelmaking rival Cleveland Cliffs, along with the head of the United Steelworkers Union, worked together to halt the deal, and the suits claim the decision was political.

Due to economic pressures, high car and gas prices, and interest rates, with about a $19,000 gap between the average compact and mid-sized SUV, according to Edmunds, that says the shift toward smaller cars is also about practicality.
