More heartbreak in Southern California. I'm Daria Albinger, Fox News. The L.A. County Medical Examiner says the death toll from the wildfires is at least 24. The threat is not over, but we are getting a better idea of the progress crews may be making on one of the largest of the wildfires. The Palisades Fire, according to the most recent estimate, is only about 11% contained. It has burned more than 23,000 acres.
Right now, the major focus is saving structures that are still standing and the lives of people in the path of that fire. That's why L.A. Fire Chief Kristen Crowley said residents should be ready to leave when told to. With this next wind event, got to stay informed.
Follow all evacuation warnings and orders. And the key here is without delay. The Palisades fire, along with the Eaton fire, are causing the most concern in the L.A. area as those fires are the least controlled.
Grinnell Scott, Fox News. Fox's Christina Coleman is in Altadena where the Eaton Fire is burning. It's a tragic situation yet some are still taking advantage of this by looting. It's just awful. The soldiers are assisting with local law enforcement to prevent this type of crime. Authorities made at least 29 arrests since the fire started. Most were here in the Eaton Fire Zone. They made several arrests last night including one in the Malibu area. Get this, they caught a guy who was
out and about dressed like a firefighter. The L.A. County Sheriff Robert Lunar said he was turned over to LAPD because he was dressed like a fireman, and of course he is not, and he was caught burglarizing a home. He says those are the kinds of issues that they are dealing with.
The Aiton fire is 27% contained. President Biden, spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, he emphasized he wants a quick agreement on a ceasefire and a hostage release deal in Gaza. All right, it's one thing to have a once-in-a-lifetime event, but two on one night? Fox's Jack Callahan tells us that's what incoming Vice President Vance is dealing with next Monday. A proud graduate of the Ohio State University, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance really wants to be in Atlanta next Monday when the Buckeyes play Notre Dame for the college football championship. But there's a problem. Monday is Inauguration Day.
Vance posting on social media, hopefully everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national championship game. But he told Fox News Sunday, I assure you that was a joke. I will be there doing my constitutional duty and swearing in as the 50th vice president of the United States. But Vance also admitted you may catch him at the inaugural balls, sneaking a peek at his phone. Jack Callahan, Fox News.
A ride share company is helping teens who failed their driving exam, at least maybe their ego.
Uber says teens who have yet to pass theirs can access one free month of rides. They must have an Uber for teens account, which authorizes young people between the ages of 13 and 17 to use the app without mom and dad's permission. Here's the catch, though. They have to fill out a survey explaining whether they failed their written or road test and why. And then they'll receive a promotional code linked to their account.
The promotion is good for at least six rides worth $20 each. The offer is good until the end of March, but it is not good at all in California.
Walmart is recalling more than 12,000 cartons of chicken broth. It's due to concerns that the product's packaging may have been compromised. The Great Value brand of chicken broth, which was sold in 48-ounce containers to 242 stores in nine states, has, as the company says, a potential for packaging failures that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage. It has a best-used date of March 2026.
