At least 25 people have died in the fires, which have been burning for over a week. At least 18 people are still missing here in Altadena alone. Teams are marking lots with pools,
and basements as well so people don't fall through debris. 3,600 properties searched here so far. Now, sheriff's deputies tell us they're patrolling for looters. Daytime is not as busy, but at night they're making arrests. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department made 39 arrests so far, some for burglary, drone violations, and weapons charges. Fox's Matt Finn in Altadena. Nearly 90,000 households have no electricity as utilities shut off power to prevent their lines from sparking new fires.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has sued Elon Musk. It says he failed to timely disclose his purchase of more than 5% of Twitter's common stock in March 2022, which it said allowed him to continue buying shares at artificially low prices.
President-elect Trump's pick to lead the Pentagon before the Senate Armed Services Committee questioned about allegations of sexual assault. Pete Hegseth denied the allegations, adding that they were fully investigated. Republican Senator Joni Ernst, herself a sexual assault survivor and who many believe is a key vote to Hegseth's confirmation, followed up. Will you appoint a senior level official dedicated to
to sexual assault prevention and response. Yes, I will. Some of the most heated questioning surrounded Hegseth's past statements that women should not serve in combat. Hegseth said today women can still serve in combat, but standards cannot be lowered. Fox's Jennifer Griffin, Joni Ernst now says that she will support Hegseth's nomination. South Korean law enforcement has detained impeached President Yoon over his brief imposing of martial law last month. America is listening to Fox News.

Three dozen dead bodies, more than twice as many survivors have been brought out from a gold mine in South Africa. The gold miners were working illegally in an abandoned shaft near Johannesburg, South Africa. Police cut off food and water in August in an attempt to force the miners to the surface. More than 100 are believed to have died of starvation or dehydration.
36 bodies have been recovered and 82 people brought out alive. There could be hundreds of corpses or survivors underground.
Civic groups want a court case forcing authorities to send down supplies, but say many miners are simply unable to get out without help from the surface. Jonathan Savage, Fox News. A warning out about a global hunger crisis. More than 150 Nobel and World Food Prize laureates are issuing an urgent plea for action on world hunger, urging more research and commitment to new food distribution efforts. Their open letter notes that an estimated 700 million people are now food insecure and without action forever.
Far more people will be in dire need because of climate change and population growth, citing an expected decline in corn production in Africa and possibly increased soil degradation and water shortages coming for much of the world. The letter calls for transformational efforts, such as enhancing photosynthesis in essential crops, developing ones not as reliant on chemical fertilizers, and lengthening produce shelf life.
