The deadline approaching. I'm Lisa LaSara, Fox News. Republicans will have to come up with a new plan after the slimmed-down version of a short-term spending bill failed in the House. Republicans are blaming this on Democrats. But when I look at the vote matrix here, Republicans could not even get a simple majority to pass this bill. There were only 174 yeas on this bill.
38 Republicans voted no. And that demonstrates just how tenuous the majority is going to be in the new year. When you have the president-elect, along with Elon Musk and others who blew up the bigger spending bill yesterday, they come back with a more svelte bill tonight and they blow up on the floor. They couldn't even get it across the table when President-elect Trump pushed for that.
Fox's Chad Pergram at the Capitol. A bill would have kept the government running through March 14th without a deal. A partial government shutdown will be triggered at midnight Friday. The suspect in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in federal court in Manhattan today, Luigi Mangione, is charged with stalking, murder through use of a firearm and a gun offense.
He's being held without bail. Amazon workers affiliated with the Teamsters union are striking at multiple delivery hubs. There are seven locations where these thousands of drivers are protesting, striking because the company will not sit down with the Teamsters who represent these drivers. Christmas is around the corner, but these workers here, they say they're willing to stay and to continue striking to get their message across. Fox Business' Madison Allworth, the company says it doesn't expect the strike to impact holiday shipments.
The union representing more than 10,000 Starbucks workers says union members in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle will go on strike tomorrow morning. And the union says walkouts are expected to spread each day and reach hundreds of stores from coast to coast by Christmas Eve unless a deal is reached. America is listening to Fox News.

A Georgia appeals court has removed Fulton County DA Fannie Willis from the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump and others. Willis' office has already asked the state Supreme Court to review the decision.
There's an upbeat reading for the economy for late summer and early fall. The economy improved at a much stronger than expected pace over the third quarter. The gross domestic product rose 3.1 percent. The reading's been revised higher from an initial reading of up 2.8. It reflects strong consumer spending in the U.S. X.
It's an improvement from the previous quarter's reading of 3%. GDP growth has topped 2% in eight of the last nine quarters. The GDP reading for the October through December quarter will be released on January 30th.
Jenny Kosola, Fox News. American Airlines has settled a federal discrimination lawsuit filed by three black men who were ordered off a flight last January. The men said that they and five other black men were ordered to board the flight after a flight attendant complained about an unidentified passenger's body odor. The three men said they weren't responsible for any body odor, weren't seated near each other, and didn't know each other. Financial details of the settlement were not released. The
Federal health officials say life expectancy jumped last year. The CDC says death rates fell last year for almost all leading causes, notably COVID-19, heart disease and drug overdoses, translating to adding nearly one year to the estimated lifespan of Americans. Though life expectancy has not yet climbed back to pre-pandemic levels, it peaked in 2014 at nearly 79 years before plunging during the pandemic.
