As questions swirl this morning over whether President Trump and President Zelensky can eventually patch things up, Zelensky has a new series of posts on X this morning. After being accused by President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance of being ungrateful, Zelensky once again thanked the U.S. for its support, calling the U.S. a strategic partner. As partners, though, Zelensky says sometimes an honest and direct conversation is necessary.
President Trump is laying out the groundwork for any potential future talks, saying, I want peace. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace. For his part, Zelensky says he, too, does want peace, but he wants one that lasts with guarantees that Russia won't attack again.
Fox's Madeline Rivera, European leaders pledging continued support for Zelensky and Ukraine. Both France is suffering a health setback Friday when a coughing fit caused him to inhale vomit, doctors say, and that required non-invasive mechanical ventilation. The 88-year-old, still conscious and alert, responding well, apparently, to treatment, continuing to get supplemental oxygen, the doctor said.
The Vatican saying the episode did cause a sudden worsening, though, of his condition. A FedEx aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey. Kurdish militants who've waged a 40-year insurgency in Turkey declaring a ceasefire earlier today. The announcement comes two days after their imprisoned leader called for the group to disarm. The statement from the Kurdistan Workers' Party was published by a news agency with close ties to the group. The PKK, as the party is known, pledging its forces will take no armed action unless attacked.
Tens of thousands of people have died in the conflict since it began in 1984. Gary Baumgarten, Fox News. Two construction workers are killed on the job in Maryland. The workers were doing renovations at a home in the Baltimore suburb of Catonsville. Both were trapped when a retaining wall failed inside a trench and collapsed. A Baltimore County Fire Department spokesman said they tried to rescue the workers but first had to shore up the trench and remove debris.
Their bodies later recovered Friday night. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Chris DeMeo, Fox News. Measles on the rise in West Texas. The number of measles cases associated with an outbreak in western Texas has grown to 146.
Almost all of the cases are unvaccinated individuals or individuals whose vaccination status is unknown. At least 20 have been hospitalized so far, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. So far, one death has been reported in an unvaccinated school-aged child. It marks the first measles death in the United States in a decade, according to the CDC.
Fox's Chandler Painter, a federal judge blocking a plan from President Trump to pull funding from institutions providing gender-affirming care for transgender youth. The ruling follows a lawsuit by Democratic Attorneys General arguing the orders violate equal rights and restrict necessary treatments. Legal challenges are continuing.
