Ready to start peace talks. I'm Carmen Roberts, Fox News. President Trump says he and Russian President Putin agreed during a long phone call to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. We talked about the possibility, I mentioned it, of a ceasefire so we can stop the killing. And I think we'll probably end up at some point getting a ceasefire in the not too distant future. The president says he also spoke to Ukrainian President Zelensky but declined to say whether he would be part of any peace talks.

But he said he did agree with Secretary of Defense Hegseth, who said in Brussels Wednesday that Ukraine's membership in NATO is not realistic. A court win for President Trump. A federal judge removes a key roadblock to the deferred resignation program, ruling the unions who challenged it did not have legal standing to sue. The buyout is a downsizing effort that gives federal workers the opportunity to resign, with pay and benefits continuing through September 30th.

Fox's Alexandria Hoff, a U.S. official, says about 75,000 federal workers have accepted the buyouts. Snow blanketed areas from Colorado to the Great Lakes and northeast with heavy rain hitting the south. This as California braces for an atmospheric river and the danger of rock and mudslides in wildfire-scarred areas. L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna. We have additional personnel ready to assist in the affected burn areas,

and at our Emergency Operations Center. Our search and rescue teams, volunteers on patrol, and incident management teams have all placed on standby, along with our Air Rescue 5 helicopter crew. Forecasters say the heaviest rain and snow in the higher elevations will come on Thursday. Tulsi Gabbard is sworn in as Director of National Intelligence Wednesday night, while the Senate plans to hold a confirmation vote on RFK Jr. on Thursday.

The Justice Department sues New York over immigration policies. Attorney General Pam Bondi announcing the DOJ has filed charges against the state of New York. Its governor, Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and its Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark Schroeder alleging interference with the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. If you don't comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable. We did it to Illinois, strike one. Strike two is New York.

And if you are a state not complying with federal law, you're next. Get ready. The DOJ previously filing a similar lawsuit against Illinois, the city of Chicago, and Cook County. Democratic governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, calling the complaint garbage. Kristen Goodwin, Fox News. Two of the crew members on a Navy jet were able to eject safely before their jet crashed off the coast of San Diego Thursday. They were quickly rescued by a sport fishing boat.

Singer R. Kelly loses in court again. A federal appeals court has upheld R. Kelly's sex trafficking and racketeering conviction, keeping the disgracing singer behind bars. The Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Kelly's arguments that prosecutors failed to prove he ran a criminal enterprise recruiting and abusing women and underage girls.

Judge Denny Chin said the evidence showed Kelly controlled victims through verbal and physical abuse, threats of blackmail and humiliation. His attorneys argued that jurors were biased and prosecutors didn't prove he knowingly exposed victims to herpes. Michelle Polino, Fox News. An American oil giant announces major job cuts. Chevron is laying off 15 to 20 percent of its workforce, it says, to improve the company's long-term competitiveness.
