Breaking with tradition. I'm Carmen Roberts, Fox News. Catholics in the U.S. are celebrating the first American pope. I think it's nice. I think it'll help the Catholic Church grow a little.
And for the first time in the church's nearly 2,000-year history, Cardinals elected an American as Pope on Thursday. 69-year-old Cardinal Robert Prevost chose the name Pope Leo XIV. Robert Prevost was born in Chicago and spent much of his career in Peru. Father Thomas Rees says as Cardinal Prevost, the Pope already held powerful roles in the Vatican. All of the Cardinals know him.
He spent most of his ministry in Latin America. He's almost more Latin than American. Some feel the cardinals chose a pope who could continue to talk to marginalised groups like Francis did, but also brings with him more conservative elements of the church.
In Rome, Jonathan Savage, Fox News. President Trump agreed to cut tariffs on British auto, steel and aluminum in a planned trade deal. The UK agreeing to increase market access for billions in American beef, poultry and ethanol as the US trims back 27.5% tariffs on British steel, aluminum and cars, up to 100,000 of them, to just 10%.
10%. Plane parts and Rolls-Royce engines will be tariff-free. Fox's Jackie Heinrich. Critics say the announcement did not explain how the deal raises revenue or increases U.S. manufacturing. China Vice Foreign Minister Hua spoke out ahead of this weekend's trade talks with the U.S. and Switzerland and Reuters reporting that he said China does not want a war of any kind.
But China has no fear. President Trump says he believes Beijing wants to make a deal. We can all play games. Who made the first call? Who didn't make it? It doesn't matter. It only matters what happens in that room. China says its exports rose 8% in April from a year ago as people rushed to beat the tariffs. And stocks rose after the U.S.-U.K. trade deal, the Dow up 254. America's listening. Fox News.

President Trump names a new person to be the top federal prosecutor for the nation's capital after abandoning his first pick, and it is a name the Fox audience will recognize. Jeanine Pirro will take the place of Ed Martin as the attorney in charge of the D.C. district. Martin's nomination was called into question based on his support for rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
GOP Senator Tom Tillis of North Carolina's opposition eroded Martin's support. Pirro, whose departure from Fox News was reported on air, is a former judge and district attorney in Westchester County, New York. The president in a Truth Social post praised Pirro as one of the top district attorneys in the history of the state of New York.
Grinnell Scott, Fox News. Days after the Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration could enforce a ban on transgender people in the military for now, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed a memo calling for them to voluntarily leave the service by June 6th for active duty and by July 7th for reserve and National Guard.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announces a plan to give most of his fortune to charity. The Microsoft co-founder says he'll donate 99% of his tech billions to the Gates Foundation over time and that the foundation will close in 2045. At today's stock value, Gates' gift would be worth about $107 billion. He says giving it away now means more lives will be saved and improved now, with ripple effects beyond the foundation's existence. He also says this makes it more likely his intentions are honored.
The Gates Foundation was founded 25 years ago, focusing on global health policy and providing medical treatment in poorer parts of the world. The original plan was for it to continue for decades after Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda's deaths. He turned 70 in October. Chris Foster, Fox News.
