The new pope does not believe in the ordainment of women. He supported a declaration by the late Pope Francis to permit blessings for same-sex couples
although he says it needs to act in unison with local contexts and cultures. He has called on the church to take greater action against climate change and his stance on communion for the divorce and on restricting the traditional Latin mass remain unclear at this point in time. Critics of
Pope Leo have accused him of mishandling sex abuse cases in Peru and in Chicago. His diocese argue that the accusations were handled according to the church policy at the time. Fox's C.J. A statement from the Supreme Court has confirmed the death of former Justice David Souter, who died peacefully at his home in New Hampshire on Thursday.
Souter was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and served more than 19 years until his retirement in 2009. He was born in Massachusetts in 1939, a Rhodes Scholar educated at Oxford University and Harvard Law School before serving as Attorney General of New Hampshire and becoming a judge in 1978. Souter was a Republican but was a reliably liberal vote on abortion, church-state relations,
