The new pope. I'm Chris Foster, Fox News. Pope Leo XIV, yesterday Robert Prevost from the Chicago suburbs celebrated his first mass today as leader of the Catholic Church at the Vatican Sistine Chapel. What kind of pope might he be? The new pope does not believe in the ordainment of women. He supported a declaration by the late Pope Francis to permit blessings for same-sex couples

although he says it needs to act in unison with local contexts and cultures. He has called on the church to take greater action against climate change and his stance on communion for the divorce and on restricting the traditional Latin mass remain unclear at this point in time. Critics of

Pope Leo have accused him of mishandling sex abuse cases in Peru and in Chicago. His diocese argue that the accusations were handled according to the church policy at the time. Fox's C.J. Alex Hogan, former Supreme Court Justice, has died. Here's Fox's Tonya J. Powers. A statement from the Supreme Court has confirmed the death of former Justice David Souter, who died peacefully at his home in New Hampshire on Thursday.

Souter was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and served more than 19 years until his retirement in 2009. He was born in Massachusetts in 1939, a Rhodes Scholar educated at Oxford University and Harvard Law School before serving as Attorney General of New Hampshire and becoming a judge in 1978. Souter was a Republican but was a reliably liberal vote on abortion, church-state relations,

freedom of expression, and the accessibility of federal courts. Former Justice David Souter was 85. Tanya J. Powers, Fox News. A group representing American automakers Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis say a new U.S.-U.K. deal is unfair to them with tariffs on U.K.-made cars now lower than American company cars imported from Mexico or Canada. America's listening to Fox News.

Republicans in Congress continue working on President Trump's so-called One Big Beautiful Bill. Fox's Ryan Schmelz has more from Capitol Hill. House Speaker Mike Johnson has been confident all week. Stop doubting us. We're going to get this job done. Lawmakers are expecting the bill tax for two committees, Ways and Means, which deals with taxes, and Energy and Commerce, which deals with Medicaid funding, to be released soon ahead of hearings next week.

Which tax cuts to include and how to find savings for Medicaid without impacting the most vulnerable have been two of the biggest points of contention among House Republicans. The one big beautiful bill contains President Trump's agenda on taxes, spending cuts, national defense, and border security. On Capitol Hill, Ryan Schmelz.

Fox News. President Trump's turning to a now former Fox News host to be interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. Jeanine Pirro will take the place of Ed Martin as the attorney in charge of the D.C. District. Martin's nomination was called into question based on his support for rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. GOP Senator Tom Tillis of North Carolina's opposition eroded Martin's support.

Piro, whose departure from Fox News was reported on air, is a former judge and district attorney in Westchester County, New York. The president, in a Truth Social post, praised Piro as one of the top district attorneys in the history of the state of New York. Grinnell Scott, Fox News. The president has fired the librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden. She's had the job since 2016.

appointed by President Obama to oversee what's called the world's largest library, open to the public with millions of items available. There's no explanation for the firing. It came in a two-sentence email from the deputy director of White House personnel. Dr. Hayden was the first woman and first African American to be Librarian of Congress, previously a top librarian in Baltimore. I'm Chris Foster. This is Fox News.
