Not getting easier. I'm Chris DiMeo, Fox News. Wind gusts are whipping up in Southern California, creating more difficulties for firefighters trying to get the upper hand on the fires. Fox's Bill Malusion is on the ground in Brentwood and has the latest. There is a desperate fight to stop the flames. We've seen numerous airdrops, air tankers coming in, dropping their retardant low. The ridge behind me painted pink with fire retardant as firefighters...
rushed to stop the flames. There's also been a ground effort as well. Firefighters digging a line as well as laying a hose on the ground, getting water on the flames. And it appears that they are doing a good job in stopping things. But the big variable here is the winds, 30 to potentially even 50 mile per hour winds. That's going to hamper aircraft operations. A curfew for hundreds of thousands of people in evacuated areas is in effect till six in the morning. 16 people are now confirmed dead.
Tennessee is currently experiencing some of the heaviest snow that it's had in years. This is the most snow that they've picked up in, get this, 40 years. They average only about two and a half inches or so per year. So this was nearly three times the amount of snow that they typically see in an average year. And this wasn't the light, fluffy stuff either. This is that heavy, wet, dense sort of snow too. And this is the most heavy snow that they've picked up in 40 years.
It is super slushy. All of this is expected to freeze overnight. Temperatures falling to 25 in places like Memphis and throughout much of the volunteer state. The problem is it refreezes. That means that tomorrow morning's commute is going to be exceedingly slippery. Fox weather is Michael Estimay in Memphis.

A Ukraine's president says his forces have captured two North Korean soldiers who were fighting alongside Russian soldiers. In a post on X, President Vladimir Zelensky saying the world needs to know the truth about what is happening. He said the two North Korean soldiers are wounded but are receiving medical care and have been taken to Kiev where they are communicating with the security service of Ukraine known as SBU. Zelensky said capturing the soldiers alive was not an easy task.
saying, quote, Russian forces and other North Korean military personnel usually execute their wounded to erase any evidence of North Korea's involvement in the war against Ukraine. The SBU said one soldier was carrying a Russian military ID card in the name
of a man from a Russian town bordering Mongolia. During the interrogation, the soldier said he had been issued the document last fall. Fox's Stephanie Bennett, Ukraine's military says one North Korean soldier says he was told that he was going to Russia for training not to fight against Ukraine.
Special Counsel Jack Smith resigning from the Justice Department after submitting his investigative report on President-elect Trump. It was an expected move that comes amid the legal wrangling over how much of the document can be made public in the days ahead.
