The company says it plans to shut off the app for its 170 million U.S. users by Sunday. It's up against the U.S. law requiring the app to sell or face being banned by the weekend. And many Americans are now signing up for the app Red Note.

Fire-weary residents in the Los Angeles area are staying alert for another round of Santa Ana winds. Red flag warnings remain in place in mountain areas north of the city through Thursday afternoon. Meantime, deputies, rescue units, and National Guard members are helping with critical operations. These missions include looter suppressions, evacuations, road closures, humanitarian relief, and roving security patrols.

President-elect Trump says changes are coming to the Justice Department and the FBI, but a survey finds that a lot of Americans don't have faith in those changes. About two in ten adults are extremely or very confident that the Justice Department will act in a fair and nonpartisan manner during the second Trump term. That's according to an Associated Press-Norris Center for Public Affairs research poll. Republicans are more split.
