Tonight, the Senate delivers good news for America. There will be no government shutdown right before Christmas. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer ahead of the Senate's approval of a bill to fund the government and avoid a partial shutdown. President Biden is expected to sign it into law later Saturday. And while the Senate was still working on that measure, the White House put out this statement. That is from the Office of Management and Budget. And it basically says here that OMB has ceased operations
shutdown preparations because there is a high degree of confidence that Congress will eminently pass the relevant appropriations and the president will sign the bill on Saturday because obligations of federal funds are incurred and tracked on a daily basis. Former Kansas City cop convicted in the fatal shooting of a black man was released from prison Friday. Missouri Governor Mike Parson commuted the six-year prison sentence to parole for Eric DeValcanere. And he was convicted of the 2020 shooting death of 26-year-old Cameron Lamb as he backed into his garage. Terrorism suspected in Germany. At least two people are dead, 60 injured after a car smashed into a crowded Christmas market yesterday.
One person is in custody. German officials say that the driver is a doctor from Saudi Arabia. Germany's state premier says that the perpetrator acted alone. Police tonight have cornered off the vehicle over concerns that there could be explosives inside that car. Town in question is the city of Magdeburg. It's about two hours from Berlin. Late last month, Germany's interior minister advised people to be vigilant at these Christmas markets.

But as he still faces the 11 state charges, including first and second degree murder, the state case would be coming first. But there are concerns about double jeopardy.
Police say that Mangione wrote in a manifesto that he was working alone. President Biden will make at least one more foreign trip before leaving office. The president will have an audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican on January 10th. He's a proud Catholic, and so that is something that he certainly was looking forward to that. President Biden is also meeting that week with Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgio Meloni, who has led the G7 this past year.
