He takes an oath. I'm Paul Stevens, Fox News. Pete Hegseth sworn in earlier today by Vice President J.D. Vance to run the nation's military. The duties of the office on which I'm about to enter. The duties of the office of which I am about to enter. So help you God? So help me God. Congratulations, Mr. Secretary. Thank you.
Now, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth describing his guiding principles. The three principles I talked about are what we will bring to that Pentagon. Restore the warrior ethos in everything that we do. Rebuild our military and reestablish deterrence.
Now, all this comes after the Senate narrowly confirmed Hegseth yesterday. Friday, the Senate was actually split 50-50, three Republicans crossing the aisle, joining Democrats in opposing Hegseth. That forced Vice President J.D. Vance to cast the tie-breaking vote after Hegseth was confirmed reelected.
Republican lawmakers praising him as a, quote, change agent who has a, quoting again, passion for the war fighter. And the Senate confirming Kristi Noem as the new secretary of Homeland Security. The vote was 59 to 34. There were six Democrats who voted to confirm Kristi Noem. They were John Fetterman, Tim Kaine, Andy Kim, Scott Peters, Gene Shaheen and Alyssa Slotkin.
Now, the Senate meets in a rare Saturday session today to advance as many nominees across the finish line as possible. Kristi Noem, as I said, enjoyed bipartisan support. The border will be a major focus of Noem at DHS, also in her portfolio addressing issues at the Secret Service following the double assassination attempts on the life of President Trump last year.

Trump's trip to Las Vegas comes after he toured the storm ravaged state of North Carolina on Friday. He also visited California, where he was greeted at the tarmac in Los Angeles by the state's governor, Gavin Newsom. The two have sparred over the state's response to the wildfires. But Trump appeared to soften his tone on Friday, saying he had a very positive talk with Newsom.
