A spending bill on the fast track. On Lisa Brady, Fox News. A package aimed at avoiding a government shutdown later this week could get a House vote as soon as today, less than 24 hours after lawmakers got the text, which isn't sitting well with some Republicans. Texas Congressman Chip Roy also says it's too much spending with late add-ons. What we ought to do is just do a simple CR with a very simple small amount of disaster supplemental for the people in tents in North Carolina, and that's it.
That's what we were talking about doing. But what this has now become is a Christmas tree bill. Elon Musk also opposes the current bill as he and Vivek Ramaswamy lead a new effort to cut spending. House Speaker Mike Johnson says he was texting with them last night, telling reporters. Remember, guys, we still have just a razor-thin margin of Republicans. So any bill has to have Democrat votes.
They understand the situation. They said, it's not directed to you, Mr. Speaker, but we don't like the spending. I said, guess what, fellas? I don't either. But Johnson argues that focusing on the Trump agenda will come with the new Congress in the new year. The Senate's voting on a nearly $900 billion defense authorization bill right now. It does have enough votes to pass and already passed the House.
The U.S. has its first severe human case of bird flu, a patient hospitalized in Louisiana. And the CDC says the way they contracted the virus was also a first in a backyard flock. There have been 61 reported human cases nationwide. Since 2022, the virus has been spreading in poultry, and this year it was found in dairy cows and pigs.
Human cases, mostly among farm workers, have been reported in seven states. No person-to-person spread of bird flu has been detected. The CDC maintains that the immediate risk to public health remains low. Fox's Matt Murphy. According to the indictment, Rivera is believed to have committed the acts between June 2019 and April 2020 and used fake companies to make his activities seem legal. Investigators say the money Rivera made, more than $5 million, went to paying those who helped him lobby executive branch officials. The alleged crime came years after Rivera's congressional term, from 2011 to 2013.

The House Ethics Committee voting to release it after the final House votes of the year. The panel probed a variety of allegations Gaetz has denied, including sexual misconduct and drug use. The House Speaker and Majority Leader have argued the report should not be released since Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress.

Posting on X, it's never too late. The 62-year-old starred on the UGA football team, winning a national championship in 1980 and the Heisman Trophy in 1982 as college football's top player. Now he's President-elect Trump's choice to become the U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
