Fox's Chandley Painter with the latest. German authorities say the suspect driver is a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia. They have yet to release the man's name, but he is said to live in Germany since 2006 with a permanent residency permit. The man was arrested at the scene shortly after plowing his car some 1,200 feet through the crowded Christmas market, injuring dozens and killing at least five, including a small child.
Authorities say it was a targeted and deliberate attack. The motive is still unclear, but authorities are continuing to investigate, saying the man rented the car he used to barrel through the crowds of people.
Mourners lit candles and placed flowers outside a church near the market on that cold and gloomy day. Nearly two-year investigation by Democratic senators of Supreme Court ethics urges Congress to establish a way to enforce a new code of conduct. A state appeals court ruled Atlanta District Attorney Fannie Willis to be disqualified from proceeding due to ethics complaints and a to be designated replacement prosecutor could choose to drop charges against the returning president. Willis could also further appeal her disqualification to the Georgia State Supreme Court, but that would likely cause more months.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says violent crime in Washington, D.C. has hit a 30-year low. Violent crime in the district declining 35% year over year. Crimes that saw significant drops this year include homicide down 30%, sexual abuse off 22%, assault with a dangerous weapon down 27%, and both robbery and burglary were down 8%. I'm Daria Albinger.
