It's official in New York City after a new vote tally in the Democratic primary for mayor. New York State Assemblyman Zoran Mamdani will be on the ballot for New York City mayor in November. He fell short on election night of the required half plus one vote to clinch the nomination.
Ranked choice voting, which tallies and counts preferred subsequent choices of candidates eliminated in rounds of counting, gave Mamdani 56% of the vote after the third round, more than the needed margin to win. Ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was second with 44%. The results have not yet been certified. That is expected to happen in two weeks. In New York City.
