But a federal judge is hearing arguments in a lawsuit over the buyout. He has not weighed in yet on the merits of the case, but the group of federal employee unions representing about 800,000 workers will argue that the Office of Personnel Management lacks the authority to make the offer.
And they question whether the government is able to pay the buyout. Fox's Alexandria Hoff, the White House has continued to urge federal workers to take the deal after the judge extended the original deadline until tonight when he scheduled today's hearing. A different federal judge accuses the administration of failing to comply with a court order on frozen funds. A federal judge in Rhode Island says there's evidence the Trump administration has continued to improperly freeze federal funds despite his order temporarily blocking a funding freeze.
Judge John McConnell says while the administration argues it's trying to root out fraud, any pause in funding violates the plain text of his temporary restraining order. McConnell blocked plans for a sweeping federal funding freeze last month after nearly two dozen states filed a lawsuit.
