The U.S. economy, the world's largest, showing resilience even as uncertainty over President Trump's tariffs clouds predictions for inflation and growth. Employers added more jobs than many economists expected last month. 177,000 jobs were added last month, higher than the 135,000 expected.
However, revisions to February and March numbers show 58,000 fewer jobs were created than initially reported. Unemployment remains steady at 4.2%. Concerns over tariffs, job security, and possible price increases have Americans pulling back on spending, while investors are betting the Federal Reserve won't cut interest rates next week.
That better-than-expected jobs report helped stocks extend their win streak to nine straight sessions, the longest since 2004. Each of the three major indexes gained about 1.5 percent Friday. Police in Greece say a 38-year-old woman carrying a bomb died this morning when it exploded in her hands. Authorities believe she intended to plant it near a bank. Police familiar with her because of previous robberies are investigating possible links to extremist groups.

The Trump administration reaches an agreement in principle to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of a woman shot and killed during the 2021 Capitol riot. Attorneys for the Justice Department and lawyers for the estate of Ashley Babbitt have a tentative deal to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed last year. Details are still being worked out and a final agreement has not been signed. But lawyers say the deal would settle a $30 million suit brought by family members of Babbitt.
The 35-year-old Air Force veteran was shot to death by a U.S. Capitol Police officer as she tried climbing through a door near the House chamber. The officer was cleared of any wrongdoing. Federal prosecutors say he acted in self-defense and in defense of lawmakers.
At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. The mayor of the Russian port city of Novorossiysk reportedly declared a state of emergency this morning, claiming a Ukrainian drone attack damaged residential buildings, injuring at least five people. Reuters reports the mayor posted video on Telegram showing him inspecting the damage. Ukraine's Air Force says Russia attacked overnight with 183 drones and two ballistic missiles.
