The House elects a speaker. I'm Jack Callahan, Fox News. Louisiana Republican Mike Johnson re-elected by a single vote majority after two Republican representatives-elect changed their initial votes to Johnson. In his address to the House, Speaker Johnson pledged to do what Americans have said they want done. We've witnessed something happening, something that's really remarkable.

a political moment in our modern history, a groundswell of Americans from every state, race, and religion who now demand that we put the interests of Americans first again. And we will. And we will. The speaker promised to drastically slash the size of the federal workforce to make it leaner, faster, and more efficient.

One of the first orders of business for the new Congress is a joint session on Monday to certify the results of November's election, a process interrupted four years ago by an incursion of protesters at the Capitol. Won't happen this time, according to U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Menger. The United States Capitol Police are better staffed.

better trained, better equipped than ever before to protect our capital and to protect our Congress. Cybersecurity is an issue. President Biden briefed on the breach of the U.S. Treasury Department's systems by Chinese state-sponsored hackers. In the name of national security, the president has blocked a big steel merger. Saying the acquisition would place one of America's largest steel producers under foreign control and create risks for U.S. national security and critical supply chains.

The Committee on Foreign Investment, a federal interagency panel, deadlocked over whether or not to recommend the merger, so the decision was left to the president. Fox's Jenny Kosola, President-elect Trump, and the Steelworkers Union both opposed the proposed merger of U.S. steel with Japan's Nippon Steel. Despite U.S. Steel's warning, it could lead to plant closures. Big gains on Wall Street. Unofficially, the Dow closes 339 points higher. NASDAQ up 340.

In an extraordinary turn, a judge today has set President-elect Trump's sentencing in his business records trial in New York for January 10th. That's a little over a week before he's due to return to the White House. But he promised not to jail the President-elect, Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, signaling in a written decision that he'd sentence the former and future president to what's known as a conditional discharge, in which the case gets dismissed if the defendant avoids re-arrest.

Several federal agencies, including the FBI, issuing a warning there could be more terror attacks in which perpetrators will try to use vehicles as weapons. White House Press Secretary Corinne Jean-Pierre with a message from the president. There is no justification for violence of any kind and we will not tolerate any attack.

on any of our nation's communities. President Biden and the First Lady will visit New Orleans on Monday, the scene of the New Year's attack. Bird flu taking a toll on more than just fowl. California sets a new record with egg prices soaring to $9 a dozen in the state's pitched battle against bird flu in the laying flock.

USDA says flock losses have surpassed the record set during the bird flu outbreak in December of 22. About the same time, national egg prices spiked to over five bucks a dozen, but then fell back. They're rising again in recent weeks to about 365 for a dozen large white nationally. Nothing like the USDA California benchmark for large shell eggs last week.
