Winter is hitting Americans hard from the Midwest to the East Coast. I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News. A storm blanketed Kansas moving east. We also have a pretty thick layer of ice that's currently under all of this snow, which has made things very treacherous. We know that a lot of the roads, unfortunately, are not as good as they used to be.
We're very slick, especially on Saturday afternoon into Sunday. That led to countless accidents. Fox Weather's Kendall Smith in Kansas City, Missouri. We picked up 11 inches of snow at Kansas City International Airport on Sunday. That was, in fact, the third largest single-day snowfall total that we've ever seen here. A third of all flights out of KC are canceled today. And in all, there are more than 1,300 flight cancellations.
There are also a lot of schools closed and more than 250,000 power outages from Missouri to Virginia. Washington, D.C. could get a foot of snow, but Congress still plans a joint session to certify a presidential vote via the Electoral College. It is on this day a campaign victory becomes official. The last time the two chambers of Congress met to perform this task was in 2021, the day in which a mob intervened.

President Biden will go to New Orleans today to meet with victims and their families of the New Year's Day terror attack when an Army veteran turned ISIS supporter drove a truck through a crowd, killing 14 people, injuring more than 30 others until police killed him. The FBI says the Shamsuddin Jabbar traveled to Egypt and Canada in 2023, and they're looking into how that may or may not have tied into the attack.
Fox's Madison Scarpino also reports from New Orleans. Jabbar made two trips to that city before the attack as well. The Golden Globes were awarded last night. The Brutalist was the big winner in film and the drama category with three awards, while in musical or comedy, Amelia Perez took home four. On the TV side, Shogun dominated with four awards. Fox's Michelle Polino, Shogun got Best Drama, Hacks got the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy. America's listening to Fox News.

Two weeks before he leaves office, President Biden has signed a bill the last Congress approved. The bill is intended to raise Social Security pension payments to former public service workers, such as police officers, firefighters, and teachers. Payment rises will mirror Social Security cost of living adjustments. President Biden said prior to signing the bill, it won't just mean changes moving forward. Over two and a half million Americans are going to receive a lump sum payment
of thousands of dollars to make up for the shortfall in the benefits they should have gotten in 2024. The rise in payments come as Social Security faces some uncertainty. Reports show fully paid benefits could be unavailable as soon as 2035.
Some fear these boosts could hasten that timeline. Grinnell Scott, Fox News. On Wall Street, stock futures are rising, coming off big gains Friday ahead of the first full week of trading of the new year. The NFL's regular season is over, and it ended with fans happy from Detroit to Denver to Tampa Bay. Make the Lions the Super Bowl favorites in the NFC. Detroit beat Minnesota 31-9 Sunday night for win number 15 to clinch the NFC North crown.

One other NFL note, the New England Patriots fired head coach Gerard Mayo after just one season. He did win his last game beating Buffalo, but it was just the Pats' fourth W along with 13 losses.
