The president at Daytona. I'm Deborah Valentine, Fox News. A rousing welcome for President Donald Trump as he and his entourage arrived at this afternoon's Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway. The stands were roaring with cheers any time NASCAR fans got just a glimpse of President Trump. And it's something that a lot of people here were telling us they were looking forward to this race. Here is the president earlier talking with Fox Sports.
I think it's fantastic. It's great for the country. Our country is doing well again, and we have spirit all over the world, this spirit again. Now, the president started by flying over Daytona International Speedway in Air Force One, and everyone began cheering and taking out their phones to capture the moment.
President Trump's motorcade then drove out onto the Speedway. He later stood on the track, waving to tens of thousands of fans, filling the stands. Powerful storms that have moved through the southeast causing several deaths. Fox's Kevin Uretzky has the details. Up to six inches of rain has fallen throughout parts of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, leaving tragedy behind.
Kentucky Governor Randy Beshear says at least eight people in his state have died. So many of these fatalities were due to attempts to drive through water and through moving water. So folks, stay off the roads right now and stay alive. Beshear says there have been over 1,000 rescues thus far in Kentucky, but that the storm's impact will last. We're going to be actively dealing with rescuers
this flood for probably the next week in different parts of at least getting things cleaned up. A man was killed in Atlanta when a tree fell on his house. Evacuations underway in Tennessee. Pope Francis has apologized for not being able to deliver a Sunday noon blessing after being admitted to a Rome hospital. The Pope is in stable condition. We know that he had a fever which passed yesterday. And a spokesperson for the Vatican also went on to say that he had a second peaceful night at the hospital. thanked doctors and health care workers for their care, and he thanked the public for their affection and prayer. The 88-year-old was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on Friday after holding an audience at the Vatican that morning. He'd been battling bronchitis for about a week and a respiratory issue since December. That is Fox's Alex Hogan with that report.
The Trump administration, in an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, wants the high court to permit the firing of Hampton Dellinger as the leader of the Office of Special Counsel. It marks the Trump administration's first appeal to the high court since the start of the president's second term. The filing obtained by the Associated Press.
The Trump administration wants the conservative majority court to lift a judge's order temporarily reinstating Dellinger. Dellinger has argued that the law says he can only be dismissed for problems with his job performance.
High grocery prices continue to hurt consumers as egg prices are at record levels due to the bird flu outbreak. Over the last three months, across all goods, including eggs, the average inflation rate was 4.6 percent, way above target and an acceleration at the end of the Biden term.
