The Black Hawk helicopter that collided with the plane was flying too high by a lot.
I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News. President Trump just posted that on Truth Social, writing it was far above a 200-foot limit, adding that's not really too complicated to understand. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth tells Fox. There can be depth perception problems. Again, that's speculation. Our investigation will tell us more. We also don't yet have the black box from the Blackhawk. When we do, we'll get a sense of internal communications.
The helicopter collided with an American Airlines regional plane that was about to land, killing all 67 people on board both as they plunged into the Potomac River. Divers will continue searching for more bodies this morning. Overnight, we also learned through the NTSB that they've recovered both the cockpit data recorder as well as the cockpit voice recorder. They're now in a government lab for evaluation. They say it'll be at least a month, if not longer, before a preliminary report is released about the crash.
Fox's Mark Meredith near Reagan National Airport. And here's something else under scrutiny. The AP is reporting this morning that in the control tower at DCA on Wednesday night, one air traffic controller was doing a job typically assigned to two people when this collision happened. So staffing was not normal. Fox's Peter Ducey at the White House where President Trump angered Democrats suggesting a focus on diversity and equity at the FAA might have been a factor.
President Trump is ready to carry out a threat he made before returning to the White House starting tomorrow. I'll be putting the tariff of 25% on Canada and separately 25% on Mexico. He cites big trade deficits with those countries, but adds that oil imports might not be subjected to those tariffs.
Trump critics warn they'll be passed along to consumers leading to higher prices. And we just got a report showing inflation keeps creeping back up. A gauge the Federal Reserve tracks closely. Personal consumption expenditures rose 0.3% last month over November. And the annual rate of inflation in December rose again up to 2.6%. America's listening to Fox News.
Hey, I'm Ryan Reynolds. Recently, I asked Mint Mobile's legal team if big wireless companies are allowed to raise prices due to inflation. They said yes. And then when I asked if raising prices technically violates those onerous two-year contracts, they said, what the f*** are you talking about, you insane Hollywood a**hole?

There are a lot of people still in shock in Wichita, Kansas, where that flight, the crash Wednesday night near Washington, took off from. Our arms are extended in unlimited compassion, care, and love. That's from a vigil in Wichita. Fox's Madeline Rivera reports from Reagan National Airport. Many of the victims have still not yet been identified, but we do know that several of them
were figure skaters, members of the skating club of Boston. Coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Namov and teenage skaters Spencer Lane and Gina Hahn. Coaches Namov and Shishkova were reportedly married. The group was returning from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. And unrelated to all that...
The figure skating world is also mourning the death of a legend, two-time Olympic champion Dick Button. 1984 U.S. Olympic gold medal figure skater Scott Hamilton called Dick Button one of the most important figures in our sport. U.S. figure skating said the two-time Olympic champion's pioneering style and award-winning television commentary revolutionized figure skating.
Dick Button, a winner of five consecutive world championships, who won gold medals for the United States at the Winter Games of 1948 and 1952, died Thursday at age 95. Former U.S. Olympic skater and current broadcaster Johnny Weir said Dick Button told it like it was even when his opinion was not a popular one. Jared Max, Fox News. A condemned killer.
Only has a few hours left to live. The Supreme Court rejected an appeal from South Carolina inmate Marion Bowman, and afterwards he decided not to request clemency from the governor. The 44-year-old said he didn't want to spend the rest of his life in prison for a murder he has always insisted he did not commit. Bowman, scheduled to die Friday night by lethal injection for the 2001 killing of a friend, found dead in her burning car.
Carmen Roberts, Fox News. On Wall Street, stock futures are rising before the opening bell this hour. I'm Dave Anthony. This is Fox News.
