It was a quieter, calmer night in Los Angeles. I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News. An overnight curfew still in effect for another hour imposed by Mayor Karen Bass. To stop the vandalism, to stop the looting. After days of destructive demonstrations against illegal immigration raids, Fox's Jonathan Hunt's in downtown L.A. It was here, in fact.
yesterday afternoon that it all kicked off once again as police began to push back protesters who gathered outside this federal building. Those protesters began throwing fireworks again at the police. They pushed them back further and further away from this building. That was the point at which Mayor Bass decided she had to instigate
A curfew. Now today, some of the Marines President Trump employed will arrive in L.A., joining the National Guard to protect federal buildings and agents. What you're witnessing in California is a full-blown assault on peace, on public order. But California Governor Gavin Newsom says the president is putting democracy at risk and... He's calling for a sitting governor to be arrested for no other reason than to, in his own words, for getting elected.
A Trump-backed Republican has won the GOP primary for governor in New Jersey, Jack Cittarelli. New Jersey is broken, and when something I love is broken, I'm determined to fix it. His opponent, Congresswoman Mikey Sherrill, who won the Democratic primary. A state like this is not going to be led by a Trump lackey like Jack Cittarelli.
Well, the feud that got ugly between President Trump and Elon Musk may be cooling off. Musk, who had led the Doge effort to cut federal spending, posted on X early this morning that he regrets some of the posts last week about the president, writing they went too far. One of them claimed without him, Trump would have lost the election. And on Monday, President Trump said he wishes Musk very well. America's listening to Fox News.
The protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids and deportations have spread to other cities. I'm so new to the United States!
That's in New York where there were dozens of arrests. Protesters also taken into custody in Philadelphia for getting violent, disorderly. In Austin, Texas, several police officers were injured in the demonstrations Monday night. All officers have been released from the hospital and treated for their injuries. Three officers were injured by rocks being thrown at the crowd and these were large, very large rocks. These were no small pebbles.
One officer sustained a shoulder injury during an arrest, during which he was also spit on. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, Republican Governor Greg Abbott plans to deploy the National Guard in several locations across Texas. Two condemned men were executed in two states last night.
First, Anthony Wainwright in Florida, convicted of raping and murdering a mother of two young children back in 1994. And about an hour after he got a lethal injection, another killer died a different way. Alabama executed 65-year-old Gregory Hunt after he spent more than 30 years on death row. Hunt died.
chose nitrogen gas as his method to die and showed signs of distress as it was administered. Critics of the gas object to the suffering it causes as it deprives the body of oxygen. Hunt was put to death for the 1988 murder of Karen Lane, whom he briefly dated before breaking into her apartment, sexually assaulting and beating her to death. Her family calls the execution justice and the end of a decades-long nightmare.
Carmen Roberts, Fox News. President Trump is touting an appeals court ruling in a Truth Social post this morning, calling it a great and important win for the U.S., allowing tariffs to stay in place. A trade court ruled earlier that the president exceeded his authority, imposing tariffs on many countries' imports. Later this hour, we'll get an update on inflation with a consumer price report for May. Ahead of that, on Wall Street, stock futures are falling. I'm Dave Anthony. This is Fox News.
