Liz Wolfe was concerned about the state of New York City, including rampant crime, a deteriorating subway system, and high cost of living, which she felt Democrats were not addressing effectively. She also worried about inflationary conditions under the Biden administration affecting her ability to raise a family in New York.
New York City saw a significant shift in voting patterns, particularly in outer boroughs like Queens, indicating that New Yorkers were fed up with the uniparty rule of Democrats who have been in power for a long time. This dissatisfaction was evident in the drastic changes across various boroughs.
Young families were leaving cities due to concerns about safety, including homeless people and drug addicts in public spaces, as well as the high cost of living exacerbated by rent control and stabilization policies. The COVID-19 lockdowns also accelerated this trend as people sought safer environments for their children.
Progressive prosecutors introduced policies that were not entirely aligned with libertarian principles, such as not prosecuting certain crimes like shoplifting. This made it difficult for libertarians to argue for their positions without being associated with the negative outcomes of these policies.
The alliance led to progressive prosecutors implementing policies that included both good and bad ideas, such as decriminalizing marijuana possession but also not prosecuting shoplifting. This muddled the libertarian message and led to negative consequences that libertarians had not anticipated.
The corporate media highlighted Trump's podcast appearances because they represented a stark contrast to the traditional media approach, where candidates typically go on cable news for interviews. Trump's decision to appear on long-form, unscripted shows was seen as a significant factor in his victory, challenging the relevance of traditional media.
The 2024 election results demonstrated that candidates who appeared on platforms like podcasts, which offer more in-depth and unscripted conversations, were more successful. This shift highlighted the decline of traditional media's influence and the rise of independent media and long-form interviews as preferred methods of political engagement.
Liz Wolfe believed that woke ideology was being abandoned by the Democratic Party because it could not withstand the scrutiny of long-form interviews and unscripted conversations. The ideology relied on shutting down debate and labeling opponents as bigots, which became untenable in a more open discourse environment.
Liz Wolfe's debate with Chase Oliver made her realize that some libertarian positions on issues like trans rights for children were not well-defended and could undermine the broader libertarian message. She felt that these positions were not truly libertarian and could harm the movement by alienating potential supporters.
