Welcome back to Unbiased. Today is Tuesday, December 10th, and today's episode is very different. So you may be able to tell in the audio that my audio is not what it usually is. I also didn't have an episode yesterday, so if we piece the puzzle pieces together, it's because I'm out of town. I am traveling currently.

So I am working with what I have and which is not my, you know, studio setup. So I have my little travel microphone with me and we're just making do. So for today's episode, I actually wanted to play 21 questions about me and there's a couple reasons for that.

Number one, I have a lot of new listeners. A lot of you have been here from the beginning, which is just incredible. But I do have newer listeners that found me leading up to the election and post-election. And I just feel like you want to know who you get your news from. You want to trust me, right? And so I just thought that this would be a fun idea to do.

So I asked you all on Instagram to submit your questions and I compiled a list of 21 questions, which I'm going to go through. These are a little bit, it's a mix of career, a little bit of life, a little bit of personal. So it's kind of a mix of everything. So let's start with the first question of 21, which is what inspired you to start Unbiased? What was your career path like generally start from the beginning?

Okay, so it depends how far back you want to go, but I started working as a hostess. So I was a hostess back in high school. I was also a nanny part-time shortly after graduating high school. And then I went to college. I went to the University of Miami. We'll actually get into education later, so I'll save that. But I went to college. I did not work while I was in college. And then I took a gap year between college and law school. And then I went to college.

And I, what did I do during my gap year? I had three jobs during my gap year. So during my gap year, I was, I worked at Michael Kors as a sales associate. I worked as a server at a local vegan restaurant and

And that's actually one of my favorite jobs to this day was that waitress job at the local vegan restaurant. And then my third job was nannying. So I did all three of those things to get the bills paid. And I made the decision to go to law school after a year of that.

and in law school, I did not work, and then I took my first job when I got out of law school. That was in insurance defense, which is... So basically, you know how we have personal injury attorneys, and they basically fight for people who got into car accidents, and they get money from the insurance companies? I was on the other side of that, so I would defend the insurance companies, and a lot of times, especially where I live, there's...

This is obviously not every case, but there's a lot of fraud where friends will meet up or cousins or whatever it is. And they'll say, hey, just gently tap my bumper at the intersection here. And they'll do that and try to seek a claim. So it was my job to work to get those sorts of cases dismissed. And yeah, that's what I did. And I did that for 10 months.

And I just always had this feeling. I just always felt I was meant for something else. I can't really explain it. I just didn't feel like that was going to be my long-term career.

And so after working in insurance defense for 10 months, I actually started a cookie company with my sister. So random, I know, but we love baking. We've always baked with my mom. And we thought, you know what? It was the midst of the pandemic and we thought, let's start a cookie company. Actually, a lot of people were starting cookie companies at this time. They were big, like half pound cookies. And

Honestly, I am, I look back on our product and the branding and everything, and I'm impressed. It was such a cool concept. We basically, it was called the cookie jar and it was a box, like a really nice box. The box was $50.

And I know some people hear that like $50. How many cookies were you getting? Six cookies. But these, remember, half pound cookies. And the box these cookies came in was gorgeous. I know it's hard to even picture what a gorgeous cookie box looks like. But it was a black box that inside had six individual clear plastic square boxes that housed each cookie. It was just, the packaging was so great. So anyway, we did that. And then...

You know, we were, it was good, but it wasn't good enough to support ourselves. So eventually we had to move on from that. And I went back to the law part-time and I worked for a sole practitioner. He was in general business litigation. He did a little bit of landlord tenant stuff, a little bit of family law, kind of like a mixed bag of everything. So I would just help him with what he couldn't get to, essentially writing motions and things. And I did that part-time while also doing social media.

And then I started posting on social media about like true crime. So if you're familiar with the Murdoch case, I talked about that a lot. The Johnny Depp Amber Heard case, I talked about a lot. And when Roe versus Wade was overturned, I...

I basically made a video on TikTok where I was like, listen, I want to talk to you about Roe versus Wade not in an emotional way. I just want to give you the facts and I want to tell you what this means because there was a ton of hysteria on both sides sort of.

And no one really understood what the Supreme Court ruling meant or, you know, that it even stemmed from a completely different case. It was a case called Dobbs versus Jackson Women's Health Organization. And people didn't even know that. They just knew that Roe versus Wade was overturned. So I just wanted to educate people.

And when I did that, it got over a million views and everyone was just like, this is amazing. Like, we just want this. We just want to learn. You know, we just want the facts so that we can think for ourselves. And so I started doing a little bit of that. And then the request for a podcast came.

And here I am. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had no idea how difficult podcasting was. It's kind of crazy because you see these like daily 20 minute episodes come out and you think, oh, 20 minutes, that's really short. Not realizing it is a full day's work. And I didn't know that either getting into it. So yeah, that is basically how I got to where I am. And yeah,

That was the from the beginning explanation. Okay, so second question is what was your aha moment that led you to where you are now? So again, I would say that it was the Roe versus Wade, the case that overturned Roe versus Wade and the just response and feedback I got when I posted that video. It was...

quite evident that people wanted it and i knew that there were people wanted it because there were new okay what am i saying here i knew that there were people that wanted it because i wanted that right so in 2021 one of my new year's resolutions funny enough was to turn off the news i just i didn't like i didn't like what the news had become i wasn't learning anything

It was just, you're basically turning on a network to get everyone else's opinions on things without actually learning. So I was like, this is not worth my time. But then because I turned off the news, I felt even more uneducated. So I really was creating everything that I had wanted. And I think when I posted that Roe vs. Wade video, that was sort of the moment that I realized, wow, so many other people are looking for this. And so that's what I would sort of, I guess, consider the aha moment.

Question number three, are you still practicing as a lawyer or have you stepped away to focus on unbiased? I do not practice anymore and I never want to practice again. I, you know, billable hours are quite the thing. And yeah, I have no interest in going back. Also keep in mind, unbiased is a full-time job between episodes four days a week, which make up, you know, 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. And then after...

or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then after 5 p.m. when the episode goes out, I have to make content, you know, promoting that episode, and then on Fridays, which are my free days, that's all my admin stuff, so I'm answering emails, and, you know, it's just, it is a full-time job, and more, so no, I do not practice anymore, but my license is still active. I don't know that I'll ever let that go. I don't know. It just doesn't sit right with me. I'm like, I worked so hard to pass the bar exam. I just can't see myself giving up my license, but...

That's where I'm at right now. Question number four, how many hours do you work and how do you keep work separate? I work quite a lot. Like I said, it's usually 8 or 9 a.m. until...

I would say 6 or 7 p.m. by the time I get done. But then, you know, there's a little bit here and there. My work kind of like whenever I turn on the TV at night or something, I'm still kind of doing a little bit of work. And then, yeah, the weekends, there's just let me put it this way. And my business owners out there will understand this. It just there's always something to do.

So I never really run out of work, if that makes sense. But yeah, that kind of sums up how many hours I work. And then what do I do to keep work separate? I just make an active decision to turn off. So because my job revolves so much around social media,

I really just make an effort when I'm with my family or when I'm, you know, doing something special or, you know, I just want to be unplugged. I make that active effort to not go on social media and just turn myself off. I don't check the news. Like, I know I can always come back and check the news later when I have to. I totally stay away from all of it.

Question number five, where did you go to undergrad law school and what did you practice before you were doing this? Okay, so we already said I practiced insurance defense, but as far as undergrad and law school, I went to the University of Miami. Go Canes. And yeah, I did. I got both of my degrees there.

Question number six, are you married? And if so, how did you meet? Someone also asked what my first impression of my husband was. So I met my husband because, yes, I'm married. And I met my husband because the law firm that I interned at one of actually both summers of law school, the one of the lawyers there was best friends with my now husband. So that is how I met him.

And what was the other part? Oh, what was my first impression of him? Honestly...

nothing bad. I wasn't into him at first. He was just a funny guy that, you know, I was actually trying to set one of my friends up with him. And yeah, I was, there was like, I remember I was telling my dad one time, I was like, yeah, you know, I'm trying to set so-and-so up with so-and-so and he's, you know, he's, he's a perfect guy. He's got a great job and he's funny. And, you know, all these things, my dad was like, so why aren't you into him? And I was like, I don't know. And eventually it was his sense of humor that,

That won me over. But yeah, that was my first impression. Question number seven. What would you do if income or money wasn't necessary to live? That is a fantastic question. And I would have to say travel. I didn't really travel much growing up.

And ever since meeting my husband, he's more of the traveler. And so he's kind of gotten me into traveling a bit. We actually, if you've been around for a couple months, you would know that in September and October, we took a month, so four weeks, to go to Europe. And we went to Switzerland, London, Croatia, and Italy. And oh my gosh, it was the trip of a lifetime, truly. And yeah, I just...

it's seeing the world is incredible seeing other cultures is incredible and yeah i would probably do that if income or you know money wasn't necessary next question where have you traveled oh wow okay we're just staying on the travel topic so as i said i just went to switzerland italy croatia and london specifically the cities were london grindelwald switzerland

What was the other? Oh, Bern, Switzerland. I loved Bern. I loved Bern and Grindelwald, truly. And then Croatia, we did Split. We did a day in Hvar, which is an island off of Split. And then we went to Dugi Otok, which is an island off of northern Croatia. It was so gorgeous. And then in Italy, we did Rome, Ravello, and Florence. And actually, one other city. What was it? Via Reggio. Via Reggio.

And Via Reggio was amazing. The hotel we stayed at was incredible. Other than that, that was, like I said, the trip of a lifetime. And other than that, I've done... When my husband and I first met, I met him over in Europe for... He was on a work trip. So I did go to Nice, Cannes, and some random city in Italy. I can't remember the name. I don't remember what it was, but I've been there. And then other than that, the Bahamas and...

You know like the stops on a cruise. We did a couple cruises when I was younger I would say so, you know, like jamaica mexico I think and then a few states i've been to I spend a week of every summer in northern michigan So yeah, it's basically the gist of where i've traveled question number 10 Do you ever get frustrated that you can't share your take or thoughts about things you report? so

No, maybe there's been one or two times where I think, oh, it would be so nice to, you know, share what I have to say about this. But for the most part, if there's anything that I have a strong opinion about that I really just need to talk about, I go to my husband or one of my family members and talk to them about it. But I think at the end of the day, truly, I am so passionate about what I do. I love...

I love what I do. And I never want to influence anyone else's decisions because I think, you know, we all have our own individualized reasons for feeling the way we feel, for voting the way that we vote. And I never want to be someone who sways that opinion.

opinion so I'm just very passionate about giving information unbiased information and letting everyone think for themselves and I think that always brings me back home so even if there is something that I'm frustrated about at the end of the day my number one priority is just getting the facts and the information out there and so I wouldn't really say I get frustrated now

Next question, what do you do for fun or in your free time? So for fun or my free time, I hang out with my family. My family lives relatively close to where I live, so I'm very, very fortunate and I get to go see them often. And

And I also am a big binge watcher. I love good TV shows. I love good movies. So I would say right now I'm currently watching Silo. I'm watching Yellowstone. And I think that's it. But oh, I just watched the JonBenet documentary. I just love a good documentary. I love a good show. So you can find me doing that. I also love, love, love to watch football. I also love to bet on football.

I feel like that might surprise some of you, but I love to bet on football. In fact, I have a partnership coming up with DraftKings. I had had the back wall done, which is the wall that is in the back of all of my podcast episode videos, but I sort of finished off the office. And then before that, we DIY renovated the guest bathroom. And the

That was an interesting project. But yeah, love anything home design, DIY, renovation type stuff. Next question. Are you a sports fan? What sports teams? I feel like I'm answering all of the next questions and the question before unintentionally. Yes, I'm a sports fan, specifically football. I wouldn't really say I watch any other sports.

I am a Detroit Lions fan because another fun fact, I was born in Michigan. I didn't live there very long. I lived there for a few years when I was very young, but my whole extended family is still there. And like I said, I spend my summers in northern Michigan. So I, yeah, Detroit Lions. And then my husband, unfortunately, is a New York Giants fan. And, you know, they're just, they're not that fun to watch. But hey, you know what?

The Lions weren't fun to watch until this season either. So, you know, every team goes through their seasons. But yes, the Detroit Lions and the Miami Hurricanes, obviously, because but that's a college team. I prefer NFL over college football, but that's just a personal preference.

Question 13, I think we're on. Do you have hair extensions? How do you blow out your hair? I get asked about my hair more than anything else, I swear. I don't have extensions. I am just blessed genetically with really great hair. I use a heated round brush to do my hair. I feel like I have sent the link to so many of you, but...

I have an older brother. I have a younger sister. And then I have a much, much, much younger half-brother and half-sister. So, big family.

Next question, are you a structured routine girly or are you a go with the flow girly? I am a structured routine girly through and through. Maybe in another lifetime, I could be go with the flow, but that's just not me. If you catch me on, you know, a random day where I'm just feeling really, really chill, maybe I can be a go with flow girly. But for the most part, without a doubt, structure, routine, that is the name of my game.

Do you have any pets? I don't. I don't have any pets. I grew up with a lot of, not a lot, but a good amount of dogs. I always had, my parents are divorced. I always had a dog at both houses. So my first dog was a Samoyed, Samoyed, Samoyed, whatever you say. And then my next dog was a Siberian Husky, the love of my life.

And my dad had a boxer, a miniature pincher,

now currently has two months that he adopted, but they're gorgeous dogs. I've always had big dogs except for the miniature Pinscher. So if I do get a dog, I probably will get a big dog. Sadly, we lost the Siberian Husky and the Boxer within two months, maybe one month of each other. It was really sad because both of those were technically my childhood dogs. And yeah, that was hard. That was last year, two years ago.

and me no last year yeah gosh and so i will get a dog eventually i just right now i'm really enjoying the lack of responsibility i know that sounds crazy but you know what i'm gonna enjoy it while i can and eventually i will get a dog and it'll be a big dog question 16 i think we're on question 16 favorite holiday traditions

So, let's see. Favorite holiday traditions. The first one that comes to mind is at my in-laws house. So I spend Thanksgiving with my mom. I spend Thanksgiving day with my mom and then the day after Thanksgiving with my dad. And then for Christmas, we go up north and we see my in-laws. And one of my favorite holiday traditions is at my in-laws house. They've done this ever since my husband was a little boy.

It's called the Pajama Elf. And every Christmas Eve, the doorbell rings and we got to run to the door and see who it is. And by the time we get there, no one's there. The Pajama Elf, he already left. He's a quick guy. And on the doorstep are gift bags. And each gift bag is for someone. Like there's a name tag on each gift bag. And inside are pajamas. And those are the pajamas that we have to wear on Christmas.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and it's just so I don't it just brings a sense of childhood and I just I love it it keeps the magic in Christmas you know and it's just yeah it's one of my favorite holiday traditions.

Okay, next question. How did you get comfortable being on camera? Practice, practice, practice, practice, practice. It definitely doesn't come easy. It's super weird talking to the camera, even right now. I...

talking to yourself is just wild but I think just over you know it just comes a time like anything practice makes perfect and not to say that I'm perfect by any means I still make mistakes all the time when I'm on camera but yeah it's just it's just practice it's just getting used to looking at yourself and talking to no one which is crazy but you'll you'll get used to it

Alright, what are we on? Has your political opinion changed at all since doing more research into things? What a great question. Yes. The answer is yes. And I keep all of, I never share my thoughts and opinions, so I don't want to say too much here. But I will say that I think the more that you research, the more you explore your own biases, the more you research to rebut, you know, your existing beliefs, the more

and confirm, I guess, you just tend to, they just change. This is a complicated question to answer. And like I said, I don't want to go into too much detail. But yes, I think the more that you learn, your beliefs will change. And yeah, that's what I'll say on that. Okay, where do you like shopping for clothes? Let's see, my go-to's would be Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M, and

quince for sure you guys have heard me promote that one i'm sure i love quince and what else aloe yoga lululemon i'm a big athleisure girl like i mean right now in this video i'm wearing athleisure i'm

almost always an athleisure. So I would say those are my top five. I don't, I don't really believe in spending a ton of money on clothes. I'm, I've never been one to buy designer clothes. I just, you know, I wear basics all the time, like sweatpants, basic t-shirts, whatever.

And so I don't think I'll ever be, I mean, never say never, but I don't think I'll ever be one to really splurge on clothes. So yeah, I would say Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M, Quince, Aloe Yoga, and Lululemon would have to be my top five.

Next question: "Do you want kids?" I do. I do, but not right now. I'm in such a growth phase of my life and I've always wondered, I mean since I was little, I have been so curious about where I'll end up and what I'm, what I'll end up doing. And I always either wanted to be, actually I don't even want to say either, I always wanted to be a teacher.

And I feel so lucky to get to do that every day, but with my own spin on it. And I'm just really grateful and fortunate for where I am in my life currently. And I'm really enjoying where I am. I'm really enjoying getting to build this thing. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. And...

I'm just in such a stage right now that I don't, you know, I don't want to interrupt that. And I know that sounds crazy to say interrupt, but truly kids change your life, right? I mean, I'm someone who has a much, much, much younger brother and sister.

They came into my life when I was 25, so I saw how much kids change things and your whole life revolves around your kids. So right now, I'm just kind of enjoying, you know, I just went, I traveled for a month. You can't really do that once you have kids. So I do, but not right now.

And last question, do you use filters? Your skin always looks amazing. What is your secret? So, okay, two things I want to say here. Number one, I

I am blessed with very nice skin. I don't ever really break out. I don't, I've never had acne. I never dealt with any of the hormonal acne. None. I've gotten really lucky with that. However, here's the other thing I will say on TikTok. So whenever you see my videos on Instagram, I always repurpose them from TikTok. So I'm recording in the TikTok app and then downloading them and uploading them to Instagram and TikTok automatically has this, they

They call it a beauty filter, but it doesn't change. So it doesn't change your facial structure. It doesn't change like your eyes, your nose, your lips, nothing like that, or your face shape. It just sort of gives you this smoothing effect on your skin. And so that is why my skin always looks really, really smooth. Whereas if you were to see me in real life, I have, you know, my face looks like normal skin. So yeah, I don't use filters in the sense that like I don't change my face at all.

but I do, because I repurpose those videos, it automatically has that blurring TikTok effect, I guess. So that is what I would say about that. However, this year I have made it my mission. I've never really taken care of my skin just because, like I said, I never dealt with any, I never dealt with acne or anything like that, but I have this year made it my mission to take care of my skin. You know, I'm past 30 now, so...

yeah, I'm gonna be investing in my skin this year. I already did microneedling once. I have another appointment coming up for microneedling. I got skincare finally. I've never had skincare before. I just used Avena Lotion and Neutrogena face wash and that was it. But now I'm starting to take things a little more seriously because I just want to, you know, sort of protect my skin all the time. I wear sunscreen every day now. So...

I think I purposely don't show a lot of my life on social media. As I've gotten older, I just really appreciate and appreciate
